I remember distinctly writing back in 2017 that NX will have a hard task selling because it can't work as a hybrid.

I wish I could tell that 2017 me that it's ok to be optimistic once in a while.

Hey at least you didn't predict it would sell less than Wii U.

I hope you did not.

I'll check later for comparisons but 100k+ hardware at week 2 isn't something that happens often.

Nintendo will provide eShop top 30 for 2019 soon.

Well quick look from gamedatalibrary:

Week 2:
PS1 1997: 136.465
PS2 2002: 114.167
DS 2009: 101.630
3DS 2012: 100.668

Mind you DS was suffering from shortages in early 2006 and 2007 and that is only reason it doesn't have record for this (for example it sold over 200k units in week 6 of 2007 simply because it got more stock).

As penance for being so wrong we'll need you to kneel on gravel and say 10 hail Marios and 10 Our Father Sakurais

I'm happy to see the Switch maintaining its impressive sales, I really truly love this system. Nintendo has definitely struck a chord with the Japanese market.

Nintendo focusing their promotional efforts on new years and achieving disproportionately high results seems uncharacteristically aggressive on their part, in terms of taking market share from PlayStation.

brazil, unfortunately
4.5mi this CY is a good number. No DS or 3DS good, but still pretty solid.
5.0 is possible for 2020 as long as the software helps.

We're off to a better start this Q1, but the the rest remains to be seen.

PS4 is going to see it's launch align lead decimated over the next year. Dropping by 10k every week potentially.

Edit: Monster Hunter moved 562k physical copies between 2 games and expansion among 2 platforms.

674k for Dragon Quest with again 2 games over 2 platforms.

And Remake 2's performance if freaking stellar! Better than 7.

Ace Combat sold roughly the same on 360 so it's safe to say there will be no more growth or bouncing back for that franchise in Japan. :(

109k total for Vesperia is pretty good if you ask me. Half of the original 360 release and third of the PS3 edition. Overall the game has sold what 700k across all versions.

NAMCO IS JUST LIKE CAPCOM AND HATES SWITCH

No reason to yell, most of us are aware that you view Bamco's support of Switch as equivalent to their support of PS4 (it is not terrible, but let's not pretend not putting popular anime games on Switch or releasing games months later as equivalent support).

Successful sales is not indicative of strong support. You can support something greatly and get nothing to show out of it, and you can barely do anything yet land a fortune. Bamco support is somewhere in the middle.

Don't get me wrong- its not great. No doubt. But the very serious posts comparing Namco support to Capcom and other offenders have always been ridiculous. Numbers are numbers.

It's probably not on the level of the ps2 trilogy, but the fact that so many Ace Combat fans are even around after Assault Horizon is a big accomplishment in of itself

No one thinks Bamco and Capcom are equals. Not even worth acknowledging that comparison.

Here are some old posts I had replied to in this thread:

CaviarMeths said:
I think Bamco is the only publisher who's actually baffling me on their Switch support. Capcom I get. Falcom I get. Even EA I get. Bamco is ?????? One of the largest and most platform-agnostic publishers in the entire world and the best they can do is port some licensed shounen anime games a year later.

ILikeFeet said:
Bamco just doesn't care about the switch. That's a more simpler explanation

fiendcode said:
Yes, SE is doing about everything they can on the system and the few holes in their lineup (KH series, FFXIV) I still wouldn't rule out.

Bandai Namco and Capcom are probably the worst. Sega and Konami have some perplexing misses (Sakura Taisen, PES) but on the whole aren't too bad really.

1) Saying Bamco's support is baffling is suppose to be a controversial statement? They have done more than port anime games late I agree but nothing egregious said in that post.

Bamco just doesn't care about the switch. That's a more simpler explanation

2) Post was edited after, original statement that you quoted is overboard. (even if I personally think a lot of their actions put the Switch in a, "leftovers" position)

3) I don't agree Bamco is one of the worst with Capcom. This is "maybe" the only good example.

Sorry, what I meant was that would it remain up YOY in Q1 before AC hits. That was the discussion that we were having, me and I think Lelouch0612 . I think this Yeah in weeks 1 and 2 suggests that it probably will be, but it does lack the Smash hype and the NSMBUDX release in January 2019. It can possibly make up for that with Pokemon hype and Ring Fit though.

It'll definitely be up YOY for Q1 as a whole, that's not in question.
Pokemon is stronger than smash software and hardware-wise same as ringfit vs smbu, Q1 will definitely be over 2019

So two of the larger 3rd party publishers in Japan sells on all platforms combined less than Nintendo does.

I find the interesting question not which platform 3rd parties should use, but how they increases their total share of the market. For Nintendo seems to take a very large part of the total independent on which platform a 3rd party choice to publish on.

Should 3rd party experiment more? How do you actually create evergreen software like Nintendo? Something is clearly unique with Nintendo compared to other publishers.

companies like SE, L5, and NB all tried. it was out in full force on the 3DS and DS days. obviously nothing stuck. Nintendo just hit that magic that others couldn't exactly replicate. Level 5 got close but looks like their milking got too heavy handed. though Nintendo also puts out many mario games without the same sense of fatigue, but I think the variation in genres help alleviate that

By treating IPs the way it is meant to be, and treating them as if the next game of the series is the last of the series to go out on a high note.

I'd say Namco is as successful as anyone this generation.

Namco are treating the Switch much like they did the Wii and 3DS; a dumping ground for low effort titles and little to none of their marquee titles; the ones that people actually care about.

The frustrating thing is that Namco had a deal with Nintendo at one point (as evidenced by Go Vacation Switch being 100% funded and co-owned by Nintendo) and were seemingly about to go all-in on Switch; but then something happened that soured relations (probably Metroid Prime 4's cancellation) and suddenly Namco backed off, sabotaged Dark Souls Remastered on Switch and gave up on putting their major titles out on Switch.

Square-Enix however are all-in on Switch and have been since day-1. The only major titles missing are the ones that would not be trivial to port (and clearly weren't being made with Switch in mind from the outset), like Kingdom Hearts 3 & Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Namco are a much larger publisher than Square-Enix (in fact, they are the largest Japanese 3rd party publisher, period), but the difference in the effort put forth by S-E and Namco is clear as day. S-E legitimately give a shit about Switch and Namco don't; don't let the overall sales fool you into thinking otherwise.

That being said, at least Namco aren't as bad as Capcom; who outright view the Switch with contempt (and probably because they're bitter about losing their cushy sweetheart deal that they had with Nintendo during the 3DS era).

I missed last week, so I'll just skip it. However, Sword and Shield have basically surpassed SM and all non-new gen mainline games, so I'm now only comparing them to each new-gen (plus Let's Go because it's the next most recent release).

by people you mean posters on a primarily western based message board and not Japanese video game consumers I assume?

Yeah I have to agree with you here. My issue with Bamco is they wont commit to any high budget titles nor will they make their teams produce Switch versions of Software that makes sense. But in regards to looking at Japanese support, they aren't producing content no one wants on the Switch. That's just not true. They just aren't bringing over as much as they could.

I do think committing resources to actual high budget Switch games would yield them really good sales though.
