It's less that it's a reasonable excuse and more like Falcom will stick on the S.S. Sony even if the ocean dries up.That isnt a excuse anymore, smaller companies have ported their game to different platforms
Case in point: Hollow Knight

Indie devs are quick on their feet, even in Japan Flyhigh Works was there on Switch from the beginning and have been enjoying some nice success. It's night and day compared to mid sized japanese developers. That isnt a excuse anymore, smaller companies have ported their game to different platforms

My boi Days Gone is going to continue that hold, just you wait. These coming months are going to be a top 10 of just entirely Switch games.
it's going to be roughly 18-24 months before ps5 comes out. it's going to get a lot worse for playstation in japan.
Not surprising at all. As nonsensical as their current business model is, it's still a big improvement from when they insisted on remaining a PC-only developer until the Japanese boxed PC game market, which was already niche at best for most of its existence, had completely evaporated. It's less that it's a reasonable excuse and more like Falcom will stick on the S.S. Given the Ys VIII ratio I'm not sure how they justify not doing Switch ports. It's more lucrative than PC for the audience.I really wouldn't expect anything Nintendo Switch from XSEED / Marvelous other than localisation of Marvelous games and publishing of indie games not ported by them. So Falcom games... nah.

I think PS4 can manage a range of 9.5M to 10M.
I can see it in the 8.7M - 8.8M range at the end of 2018.
Something like 600K - 700K in 2020, then ~300K in 2021, ~100K 2022, then left over sales after that could see it hitting 10M.
It's just frustrating as a fan at this point.Gotta stay loyal to Sony so SE Asia continues to assist in marketing and localizing their games.
is there anyone else whom they can partner with that offers those benefits as well as multiplatform support?Gotta stay loyal to Sony so SE Asia continues to assist in marketing and localizing their games.
I'm not talking about Falcom but Marvelous/Xseed.Gotta stay loyal to Sony so SE Asia continues to assist in marketing and localizing their games.
Do ps4 games not get very generous price drops all over the world? Most AAA games can be got for 30/40% off within 6 months of launching and others even higher.Almost nothing escapes from price drops on PS4 lately.

japan handles things differently. there's no buyback there so if stores order too many, they have to take a hit to clear spaceDo ps4 games not get very generous price drops all over the world? Most AAA games can be got for 30/40% off within 6 months of launching and others even higher.
I think it's probably time they start getting it. Why is it they don't or is there a benefit also for that system?japan handles things differently. there's no buyback there so if stores order too many, they have to take a hit to clear space
Well, Yokai Watch 4, even though it's very close to Mario. So is Switch expected to stay flat until Mario Maker 2, or is there something else that might give it a bump, however small, before then?

They have one. They're a small company and prefer to stick with the platform they have been supporting already.
There's Doraemon and Yokai Watch. Maaaaybe Sonic and Crash Racing, but it's quite unlikely.
20-40% sellthrough. Not even sure why they bothered. Did they think the Switch fanbase would be attuned to a port of a 20 year old game and a 7 year old remaster? Still, that's the lowest selling ArcSys game on the Switch yet.
To be fair, it worked for Street Fighter 2.Did they think the Switch fanbase would be attuned to a port of a 20 year old game and a 7 year old remaster?
I know, it's mostly a joke.Yeah, there may be a slight difference in mainstream popularity between street fighter 2 and guilty gear though
It's a 0-20% sell-through. The acual number of copies sold isn't really the problem. It's how much overshipped it is that will be problematic for retailers. Last Switch game with that kind of sell-through was Billion Road and we know where that ended.20-40% sellthrough. Not even sure why they bothered. Yeah it kinda feels as important to them as "not enough money to add platforms".It's less that it's a reasonable excuse and more like Falcom will stick on the S.S. Sony even if the ocean dries up.
that's gotta be a sega japan move. sega japan, america, and europe are hilariously and perpetually at odds with each other. maybe not so much america now that the original sega of america was killed by japan and europe.
people underestimate what a good market it is. you don't need an audience only buying triple-a games to have a healthy ecosystem.
Really? I'd have wagered only SEGA Japan even remotely cared about the Switch at all. SEGA Europe doesn't seem to give a crap about anything not on PC, and SEGA US is basically Sonic + localisations
Ignoring the "AA" market has been a continued trend for the video games market not just in Japan, but also worldwide. A shame because the companies that do cater to that market have been faring somewhat well. Hell, you could even argue that Nintendo has managed to stay relevant in Japan in part due to still releasing "AA" games on a regular basis alongside their big multi-million selling series.
