It's odd that JP publishers keep pushing the unique region apps instead of going global like FEH and Granblue, the later even has raids and even language barriers but it still manages to work well. Most of these games also get rerun events at some point so it's not like the new players will miss all of the content. Then there is the unsafety to jump in that it causes because it may close down, the missing features that causes growing pains that one region may not be able to sustain and the dedicated players that may try the game will know the content schedule and save the in game currency which in turn will cause less spending.
Granblue isn't really global, It's only in the Japan Appstore currently

The fact that a sequel is already announced is precisely why I didn't buy DQB. Maybe it played a role negatively.

But yeah it's kind of disappointing. Like I said in an earlier thread, it would have been a perfect launch title, instead of Heroes.

Builders 1 should've been swapped with Heroes, I agree.

Builders 1 should've been an easier port I think, plus it's only one game and not two. Heroes 1 could've been a summer 2017 title, with Heroes 2 maybe for the holidays or when Builders 1 actually released. This way both Heroes games could've had a lot more time in the oven and after Omega Force already had much more experience with the hardware.

What do you guys mean? How would this have worked? Heroes 1 & 2 came because they were made by KT, who had their engine working on Switch so that they could do their games as well as Fire Emblem Warriors later. Builders is done by SE and uses PhyreEngine, which had not been ported to Switch. Are you suggesting that KT instead of preparing their own engine, and porting over their own game, contact SE to port SE's game which uses a completely different engine to the Switch instead?

Expected more from those.

Hyrule Warriors should be riding on Breath of the Wild hype, and Dragon Quest Builders is super cheap, with a sequel coming up, there should be more hype around it.
Hyrule Warriors should've added more BOTW content; some campaign stages, the four champions and an adventure map. More people would've triple dipped then.

Builders I dunno, you say it was cheap but it was still the same price as the original game 2 years ago. They probably should've launched at a budget price or done some more significant content additions (new stage? multiplayer? Builders 2 demo?).

Its weird where they almost exhausted Zelda content for HW thanks to DLC and numerous releases making a sequel unlikely and then you want them to go all out with BOTW stuff but with the costumes being the extent of that that seems unlikely aswell

I don't really get why more was expected from Hyrule Warriors. It's been on two systems already, one being the incredibly popular 3DS. Plus musou games aren't nearly as popular in Japan as they were when HW originally released.

The game is content packed for sure, it's like hundreds if hours to do everything. I get the feeling Omega Force took a kitchen sink approach for Zelda figuring it was a one shot deal where as FE feels very much like a game made with sequels in mind. That said this is the game's 3rd release and I feel like there really just isn't enough new to really make it a must (re)buy for most.

Personally I don't think we'll get a HW2 either. FEW2 sure, Super Mario Musou yeah, but not HW2.

Zelda feels ripe for spin off material, don't think it's wise to just keep it at Warriors.
The 3 releases have kind of made me sick of Hyrule Warriors anyways, though that's more of a personal thing.

Feels like they exhausted their line up with DLC and expansions.
There's like Groose and the champions, kind of? But the costumes in HWDE make that seem less special.

I think they meant strategically, because of course it makes no sense whatsoever from a technical point of view.

Yeah, I suppose, but if asking for the impossible, might as well dream big and say SE should have surprise dropped FF16 and DQ11 at launch as well.

About the extent of what they could have done differently is push up the release of Builders and delayed the announcement of Builders 2 a bit, however I don't think they were expecting many sales from it, I think they simply wanted to have a way to move some of their PhyreEngine games over to the Switch if they wanted to at a later date, and if Builders sells a few hundred copies a month it will have paid for it.

I would still love a new Link's Crossbow Training. Heck, they could take a page from HW and make it Linkle's Crossbow Training.

I can see HW2 happening, but probably not for 2 or 3 years. I think there's enough content from the franchise they can pull from without being redundant.

Zelda as a whole is certainly going to experience a wealth of spinoffs on the Switch after the success of BotW, especially in comparison to the Wii U (which only really got the remasters and HW). The IP is as strong as ever, and I'm sure Nintendo won't let that potential go to waste in regard to mainline releases and spinoffs.

So Sega are making a Kancolle arcade game. Edit: Oh, the news about that is old but the video uploaded is new.

DQB's situation is pretty similar to Setsuna, preparing the engine for the next game multiplat release, getting familiar with new hardware and release a late port since a huge chunk of the work was done anyway.

In term of timing maybe it could have been done a bit earlier, maybe not, I think in the case of DQB it wasn't planned in the very early phases of DQB2 development but they were able to quickly course correct.
We're still talking about a PS3/PSV/PS4 game that was done on a Sony's proprietary engine, that they were able to port it on Switch on the first place already show that they were willing to invest a decent amount on it, there was indeed no way it could've show up that early on Switch.

I think Nintendo can easily get 2M off a quality spin off title.
Would be nice to see other dev's take on the franchise like PlatinumGames (MGR/NieR equivalent) or maybe a western dev spin off.

Would also like to see Hyrule Warriors 2 but only if there's a big mix up gameplay wise. DW9 was supposed to usher that in, but...uhhh

Speaking of Code Vein what expectations should we have for the title in Japan?

It's supposedly a sort of God Eater X Dark Souls or Souls animefied but on PS4 only and with your typical Bamco budget, I haven't been keeping up with the game but will there be an important multiplayer component?
If not it's more of a "how low" can it get at first glance, like 300k LTD already sounds very optimistic for a new IP that doesn't feel very inspired, wasn't very impressive when shown, PS4 only and solo centric (if it really is)

Multi was confirmed back in Feb. It seems to work similar to Dark Souls. You can put out a distress signal and people can join you to help you out. Doesn't look like there's "traditional" multiplayer.

Just saw a cool tidbit about Yakuza 6 from Siliconera. Nagoshi estimates Yakuza 6 has reached around the 800,000 to 900,000 in sales from Japan, Asia, America, and Europe.

"Yakuza used to sell by the loads in Japan and trickled in sales overseas before, but now overseas sales have reached about as much as they do in Japan."

Yakuza was dead in the West for some years before Sony (Gio Corsi and the Building the List initiative more precisely) pushed Sega to bring Yakuza 5 on the PlayStation Store in december 2015, and even though it was very late for a PS3 game, things went smoothly after that.

Thanks, so we're indeed looking at Dark Souls latest sales as the ideal target (400-500k) and we go down from that, 300k as the ceiling for now seems fair.

I was expecting more from Builders.

Another factor why it sold not-so-good might be the slower period. SQEX should have released it under holidays.

Looking at BN push I do think they have big-ish expectations. Surely more than 200k---300-350k in Japan.

It will be lucky to make half that.

Somewhere. I think.
So looks like Squeenix has even more Switch stuff in the works:

During my conversation with the team at Acquire and Square Enix about Octopath Traveler, Asano mentioned that the team became its own division in April. "Square Enix has decided that it wants to focus on original titles for the Switch," he says. "If Octopath Traveler does well and this is something that appeals to fans, we want to focus on Switch. Please pick up the Switch if you want to play games like Octopath Traveler."

There are several other titles that we're currently working on for Switch," he says. "If you could just wait a bit longer, we'll work with Nintendo and announce them in the future."

I wonder if one of the games in the works is whatever the FFIV guy (Takashi Tokita) was teasing a long time ago.
