? It is not about portable vs console. It is how Sony now view Japan as second or third tier country. Sony already move on from Japan and like what we see from its development arms, it is all about those Western AAA Market. Unless you are big boi Japan company like S-E or Cacpcom, you are not anymore priority or even considered at all. Like, Nintendo all in all, is still Japan oriented company. They focus on Japan a lot even when their product sold well Globally.

From what we have heard, i think it is the case of some of third party company leader act mostly on loyalty rather than business logic. The fear of being thought that they betray Sony so they will do everything they can to please Sony and ignore potential money making on Nintendo sides is one of the reason they remain on the same spot.

This is also actually quite true. Like i mean, Nintendo even have loan their IP like for Tekken with Mario costume, Soul Calibur with Link, etc. but It seems for Jp third party those things is not enough?

Tales of and Soul Calibur are two series that actually appealed to Nintendo fans. For Tales of there still is a fanbase (somewhat kept alive with a release here and there) but it could have been bigger by now with actual support over the years. They really botched the Soul Calibur fanbase on Nintendo systems after the success of SC2 on GameCube.

Harada is an example of someone who started his career around the 32/64bit generation and basically built bis career with Tekken (3), a IP that was strongly tied to PlayStation and even more so supported by Sony. Recently he even got promoted and has even more influence.

Used game sales should help us answer this question. At least for games that didn't hit the bomba bins.
That's the point, both FFXV and KH3 hit bomba bins very soon.
___

If Bandai Namco doesn't have anything to recover at Nintendo direct after Tales, Square Enix will take the place of biggest Japanese Switch supporter.

Yeah, but you talked about that Sony helped and supported 3rd parties much more before, but now dont care about them as much, and that Nintendo is now the opposite, as they didnt support 3rd parties that much before, but now they support the much, right? Well, you didnt say Nintendo or Sony in specific, but i'm assuming you're referring to those :) I'm wondering if we know about any changes in this regards, if there is a bigger shift in policies towards 3rd parties, or if the type of product that is offered (hardware) plays a bigger role into it.

Its true that Sony doesnt produce many games themself in Japan anymore, but was this a big factor in terms on how their relationship are with 3rd parties? Or did they publish more 3rd party games before, even from smaller developers, compared to today?

Well, in this case we can simply see by how Somy shifted into console only and leaving handheld business at all. During the time of Vita or even PSP, Sony publishes a huge amount of third party smaller games on those platform. Remember the Hunting game push on Vita? Thats example of Sony pushing third party games for its platform.

However as we see how they shifted more on their focus to the west, they dont publish as much anymore Jp third party games as there is bigger lucarative deals on the west. Dlc, marketing deals all is big money maker that Sony is now focusing more.

Nintendo at least this gen seems to have been doing much more active in courting third party into their system unlike previous gens. Like the latest recent example would be Sakuna and how it would be exclusive to PS4 if Nintendo dont directly went to Marvelous to ask for that game.

This shows there is a change in Nintendo in their third party relation too unlike in the past where they seem to not care much whether 3rd party will hit their platform or not.

The only big advantages from staying strong to Sony i believe atm is those Asia and Mid East Asia sales there. As Sony often help the third party to localize their games and Sony is stronger on those territory especially Mid East.

But in the case of Asia market will save the game, it is not a guarantee too as we have seen many games come and go there too.

Considering they have a product page for Tales of Arise despite the generic 2020 release date anything from the direct would have leaked.

If Zelda release date turns real that's an epic mistake from Amazon.jp.

I don't remember anything leaking from them before, at least not important.

Nintendo approaches companies like SNK, Inti-Creates and Edelweiss specifically seeking out niche as hell games. Not to mention all the examples of them bending over backwards for Capcom, SE and Bandai Namco.

The idea that they're not willing to work with these companies or aren't pursuing their big games is completely unfounded.
They're also the easiest platform holder to work with in terms of content approval (there is none, just get a region rating) and were the first to allow crossplay/progression with other walled gardens (Wii U / 3DS / iOS). It's been a long time since Yamauchi era Nintendo, in fact it's been longer post-Yamauchi now than it was during in consoles. Any company still operating in response to those years is only doing self-harm at this point.

Is there a list of the 3rd party games Sony published back in the days? I never really thought much about that. I found a list on Wikipedia, but i'm not sure how complete that is, especially for japanese titles. Sony did indeed push some hunting games for the Vita, but werent all of those from the big(ger) companies? I guess its all relative, but i would consider Bandai Namco (God Eater and Koei Tecmo (Toukiden) as the bigger ones.

You're right about Nintendo. Are there any 3rd parties that Sony could pursue to be on their platforms? Maybe Init-Create? I guess my question is also if smaller 3rd parties (or 3rd parties in general) feel that they're not getting enough support from Sony these days compared to before. If they feel that they're not getting what they got before, wouldnt that be a reason to not stay loyal (in regards to not making games for other competing platforms)?

Ni no Kuni announced for Japan, out on September 20th. Switch and PS4, 5500 Yen.

Do we know the price for the west? I guess $40 like Tales of Vesperia was?

Not only Bamco had nothing, Squeenix actually had a couple more announcements (Mana Collection for the west, Mana 3 remake that's also multiplatform).

There was no show for Luigi's Mansion or I missed it?

No, it was there. No release date, still 2019 release. Also, I know you were really waiting for them, so here goes: RE5 and RE6 announced for Switch ;)

AC delay is a shame, buf ot should make for an amazing March next year along with FFVII!

DQXIS is September 27th, so technically Fall, indeed. Very curious to see how that one does in Japan (and worldwide).

Maybe Luigi's Mansion 3 ends up being the December title. Though, I don't think they announced anything specifically for October either.

Delaying AC is smart move - their new titles + evergreens and the revisions release will be enough to keep Switch sales high this Holiday season.

AC in March will make sure they have something to own the Spring.

PS. Nintendo promoting Capcom overpriced RE ports - cant blame them though, with MH incoming they gotta make sure that that relationship is solid lol.

I know we read too much into things, but the high profile Nintendo gave to Capcom's ports this time definitely seemed out of place with how they have been treated in the past.

Nintendo knows its a marathon and not a sprint - people here were acting like Capcom is treating Nintendo like Squaresoft the Nintendo 64 in the 90s.

Once Iceborne is out we can start talking about NEXT.

Agreed. Knowing now what else is coming this CY, having animal crossing too would kinda be overkill.

It's releasing March 20th. It'll have a boost on hardware that month, but most of its impact will leak over into the next fiscal year, especially knowing the kind of sales pattern animal crossing follows.
