Damn, Fate a system seller? Shocking!

Sushi was way overpriced. I get that it has some nice production value, but you don't need that in a damn puzzle game! Should have been a $20 eshop game.
They used their budget in really bizarre ways too. Like, a ton of anime cutscenes that prominently feature the player character + being able to choose that character... I don't see what they were thinking there, outside of having a budget that was too big for what they were making.

Also, I really wanted to like the game but couldn't stand how padded it felt >.>

It should be the special offer of "Days of Play" started from 8th June that pull the sales

PS4 Slim "Days of Play" edition is 3000 yen off, and PSV has a special pack with 32gb card bundled

Didn't it originally start as only a 3ds game? Maybe they figured they had to up the production value if they were going to release it on the Switch? I don't know. But it is a bit bizarre. A $50 puzzle game. Yes, nice production value, but that's not really needed in a PUZZLE game!

Depressing week for software.
Somehow decent - dare I say good - week for hardware in comparison.
Was expecting switch to drop and PS4 to float or barely rise, so this was a nice surprise.

Edit: saw chris's post, days of play promotion causes this to make much more sense lol.

Making a bunch of anime cutscenes for Sushi Striker seems like a weird choice. The ones in the demo were really annoying and it took way too long to get to the actual game.

Didn't we have a Tetris VR with tons of production value announced last week? Seems like some are hyped by that.

Detroit a Ps4 game with very limited audience having a bit of legs in Japanl that's a big surprise.
Western games are getting better and better sales in Japan with the PS4. It's kinda the opposite with general japanese games.

I doubt it will sell much too. It's not like people dislike Sushi Striker, it's just a high pricetag for a new puzzle series people don't know much about.

Love how well Detroit is doing for being so narrative focused. Definitely an over-performance compared to other regions. Should reach 100k it looks like (with digital included) which means it sold double that of Heavy Rain

Switch continues to ride Pokemon hype. This week with E3 and Splatoon expansion coming out it will keep momentum.

PS4 Days of Play LE is running out of stock. In theory promotion ends at 18 June but maybe sales won't hold like last week.

I hope this helps them reconsider Sushi Striker price. Give "ambassador" thing or something to the people that paid 50. That price is ridiculous .... don't let this game die.

I'm sad because of its production ... because the demo was only rotating the stick and winning, for me.

Splatoon 2 will likely surpass 1M for 2018 late August/early September. Without Smash launch until December there isn't anything that can really stop Splatoon 2's momentum. With Smash launching so late, I think Splatoon 2 has the best chance of being the 3rd best selling game of the year behind Pokemon Lets Go and Monster Hunter World.

PS4 Days of Play LE is running out of stock. In theory promotion ends at 18 June but maybe sales won't hold like last week.

Sounds like artificial shortages

People expected Sushi Strikers to sell more?

Also little nightmares got a physical release there? Is NA the only one missing out? Been wanting to grab that for Switch but only ever see XB1 and PS4 physical on amazon.

Tetris is an established name. I think if Nintendo did a "Tetris Switch" in the style of Tetris DS with tons of modes, content and Nintendo nostalgia laced throughout it'd sell a ton at $50.

Also is Tetris Effect a $50 game? Lumines Remastered is only $15 and Rez Infinite is $25/$30.

There are also a lot of puzzle games on eShop.

They should have decreases production values a bit and sell the game at $ 15 on the eShop, similarly to stuffs like Harmoknight.

brazil, unfortunately
with Splatoon DLC being released tomorrow and Mario Tennis later in june, it's safe to say that Switch will have a considerable boost in it sales.
Next MC thread shall be interesting.

Mobile has really devalued puzzle games in the mind of the consumer.

This is so ironic. Is it really because of the price of the game and not the fact that action-based puzzle games died long ago?

Think of it like how everyone here talks about 2D fighting games being dead in Japan and ended up being superceded by 3D arena style fighting games.

In this case, action-based puzzle games were superceded by turn-based match-three games like Candy Crush and Puzzle and Dragons.

Of course I'm going to hear that Tetris and Puyo Puyo are still around and of course they are, they survive on brand power just like Tekken and Street Fighter, no surprise there. The difference is how it's harder for a new IP of a dead genre to get off the ground and reach mainstream popularity.

Shame about Sushi Striker. The game is really fun.

It looks and plays like a smartphone game, not very interesting on a console.

I must say I am happy that this game bombed. Not because it is a bad game, but because Nintendo put much marketing power behind this little "mobile like" game that could have been used for much better and more fitting games for Switch.

I would really like to understand why the Extella sequel skipped Switch but not Vita...

Over 40,000 two weeks in a row with no significant releases? I wonder if Switch can get to 4,500,000 a week earlier than I expected. Octo Expansion, Minecraft, and Mario Tennis will provide nice bumps. Any insight from locals on how well Fortnite is doing?

For comparison's sake, last year, when ARMS released, Switch increased 10,000 on Media Create's charts. If we're working from a baseline of 40,000, an average of 60,000 over the next two weeks seems within reach.

After E3, I'm also curious who fills in for August and September since all of the other months for 2018 seem sufficiently covered. In particular, I'm wondering about Obon. Last year, Monster Hunter was the big title. Could it be Yokai Watch 4 this year? Lite_Agent mentioned there will be a trailer released on June 23rd for YW.

This should all lead into a monsterous final three months of the year for Switch. Will Japanese third parties once again concede all software sales to Nintendo?

On a side note, do YSO's predictions for Mario Tennis and Minecraft come out this week?

Yes. It is that. I have no doubt puzzle games can still sell. Ever heard of Puzzles & Dragons? In this era of widespread indie games, trying to market and sell a blatant 3DS port as a full priced Switch game is absurd. Maybe they could've gotten away with it around launch, but not now. Not when you can buy 2 content packed indie games for that price. I hate people who associate graphics with perceived value/cost (looking at all the Octopath haters), but the game honestly should have been a budge title like Snipperclips and cost no more than $20-30
