Oh wait, Winning Eleven is in August?
Konami probably missed the news that there's this big soccer event going on right now that would have perfectly coincided with a release of new soccer game.
Winning Eleven 2019 would never release in June. A Samurai Blue version would but Konami just doesn't care much anymore for dedicated gaming.

I know this is mainly a Capcom thread now >_>, but I wanted to chat [NSW] FIFA 18 a little. Up to now it's known to have sold a little more than six times (6.19x) its first week on MC as of late January when it last poked its head out (src: http://era.burner.camp/#g/8187 ). It did that thing last year where it appeared to fizzle out pretty quickly but turned out by the end of the year having sold around three and a half times as much as had been thought. As it's been lurking in the top 50 in 17 out of the last 20 weeks, I'm hoping to see if sneaks into the top 20 this week to give us an update.

What's the general feeling here on it re-cracking the Top 20 given the World Cup? I don't have my finger on the sport even locally -- mind you, I was at a sports bar on Saturday but while there was a game playing I was oddly much more interested in the "Johnsonville Cornhole Championships" running on an adjacent screen* -- so I can't really tell how much the excitement in the tournament would lead to additional game sales. Has anyone discussed where the LTD might have crept up to on MC, where it might rank next week, or how much of a weekly boost it might see?

Famitsu had it at 103k a couple weeks ago, and they were at 72k when MC was at 78k, with sales generally creeping around in the 1k-2k per week range. Seems like it has potential for a pretty healthy "last gasp" before its successor comes out.

mmmm... you know that end of August - beginning of September is when most of the big football leagues start, right? Or is it dumb also for FIFA to release in September?

Not doing a World Cup DLC for PES 18 is another different thing but end of August is a great date to launch a football game.

Fifa and maybe Winning Eleven will come back strong if Japan continues at World Cup.

Whether Sony did or didn't pay for Asian exclusivity, what does that prove or matter in regards to sales? Like why the fuck are people still bickering over this point?

So, note to self, don't post and then go to sleep.

Considering this discussion started because I was replying to someone who literally said that Sony and MS fans have a different mindset or behaviorism..... :)

I don't think the work is hard. What I'm curious about is how they are going to manage a split userbase moving forward. It's something MH hasn't really experienced since it became huge.

When the hell did I say that? I was asking if anti-Nintendo fans were this bad during the Wii era. Of course Sony and MS fans don't have different mindsets or behaviorism. I just remember people talking about how some people couldn't accept any success from Nintendo and wondered if it was as bad as during the last time Nintendo was on a successful roll.

If Japan wins the World cup, Fifa 18 will hit 150k on Switch, and Fifa 19 will launch with 100k+ this september.

You could not imagine how much Football fans are influenced by their team winning.

Just as an example, as a reaction to the win Switzerland had against Serbia, my local Gamestop made a new promotion with Fifa 18 for Switch about how you can play Fifa while watching Switzerland win(which we wont continue to do, no matter how much i wish for it).

I think that the difference is that FIFA will sell millions regardless of when it comes out, whereas I don't think Winning Eleven can afford to miss the biggest marketing opportunity for their franchise

Kuma Tomo on 3DS did 123k LTD according to Famitsu.

350,000 was ww apparently.

Bamco is also going to have a live stream of the reveal.

Nintendo localized the previous 3ds game in Europe, maybe they will bring it over again.

The game was only released in Europe (pretty sure North America didn't get it). It was one of those "wtf" releases from NoE that nobody saw coming. So between 100 and 125k for Europe... that's way more than I ever thought the game would sell tbh.
You are looking at sub 100k sales for Kuma Tomo in Europe. North America apparently didn't get it because it didn't worth the effort.

Media Create numbers are 1,5 year old, sell-through and without digital. Japanese shipments are comfortably at 250k+ from these 350k today.

I'm not sure if even RE7, RE2 Remake and DMC5 can be considered as AAA games (by the west's standards).
The only company who is still making true AAA games (budget-wise) in Japan is Square Enix.

RE games are consistently the games with Capcom's biggest budget and employees behind from what I remember, and from their production value and marketing, they're definitely AAA.
I could see how some would argue DMC5 is AAA, but I don't believe so.

I don't know what's the less likely scenario, Japan winning World Cup or Capcom's Switch support increasing.
Japan is almost the Ro16, Capcom is still nowhere to be seen. Samurai Blues in the lead.

Would a brand new Ace Attorney count ? Would a specifically for Switch made MH count ?
Would SF6 count ?
No, almost dead series. Depends for the MH, but I doubt it will be high effort/budget. Street Fighter 6 won't happen anytime soon and won't be on Nintendo systems anyway.

AT is not AAA MH will count but is not gonna happen cause of the "Sony Asia exclusivity" and SF6 will be PS5 exclusive again with some dumb reason attached to it. ill be amazed if we even get something as simple as RE7 port (streaming doesnt count)

So no game from Capcom would count as a AAA Switchgame.

If that is the case, yeah Japan will win WC before Capcom makes a AAA game for Switch.

Development team of 100+ devs plus a development cycle of more than 2.5 years would easily put the game's budget in AAA territory. RE7, DMC5, RE2 and MHW all fit the bill. RE6 would probably match a lot of top tier western AAA games budget too.

So uhm...

FIFA 18 had a big content update late May in anticipation of the World Cup. While that didn't seem to do enough to get push the game back into the MC Top 20, maybe Japan's own results at the World Cup could. It was quite the underdog in their poule (they're #61 in the FIFA World Ranking) against Colombia (#16), Senegal (#27), and Poland (#8). Only two of the four teams go to the next round, based on the results of one match against each of the three other teams. Japan surprisingly won with 2-1 against Colombia last Tuesday (19/06), and they played a 2-2 draw against Senegal last Sunday (24/06). So they're placed No. 1 in the poule right now, surprisingly. Such good results may get the Japanese more enthusiastic about football, and may even want to play a football game themselves, despite usually not buying FIFA or Winning Eleven every year. So starting Week 25 (Jun 18 - June 24), we'll see the fruits of the national team's good results in the tournament so far. The last game, which they'll play against Poland coming Thursday (28/06), may give the excitement another boost.

I think FIFA 18's benefit to the national team's success will be more or less exponential as the tournament continues. After one round, nothing is set in stone. After two, it becomes likely that Japan gets through to the knock-out phase. And so, as excitement increases, so will weekly sales increase. Since FIFA 18 for Switch has been hanging in the 20s last couple of weeks, I think the national team's success and general World Cup excitement will lift it towards the Top 20, but it might still miss it. Next week, Week 26 (Jun 25 - Jul 1), the results from the games against Senegal and Poland will come into play and that's when I expect the game (at least on Switch, maybe even on PS4) to get a good position in the Top 20 again.

My guess is FIFA 18 for Switch is at 100k already. I think it could leg to 120k if Japan continues to the knock-out phase. As for the PS4 version, it's been charting lower. It will increase, but I'm not sure if it can get more than 3k copies per week tbh. It's probably also around 100k now.

(Btw, where did you get that source from? I didn't even know of the existence of that database!)

I just had the chance to check the white book in a library. But I still don't have it yet.
In 2 months.
Alright, no problem! :)

It is well known that Nintendo platforms have typically more heterogenous demographic groups than Sony/Microsoft ones. Online forums are mostly inhabited by young male adults. Also, within groups there are differences in terms of preferences or attitudes. The "both side" argument fails.
Yeah, thats possible (i just ment that the majority share of console owners for Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony are likely in the younger male category, while Nintendo systems might have a bigger share of female owners in comparison, that i can see), but wasnt your arguement that young male adults played a role in who does console wars? If most people on online forums are young male adults, then they are all the same demographic regardless if they are Microsoft, Nintendo or Sony fans, so there shouldnt be a big difference between the fans when it comes to that factor. Or how do you mean?

In the end though, it comes down to personal experience. Personally, i've seen fans with the console war attitude from both Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony fans. I dont think i can claim that one group is really worse/better than the other, so its "all sides" in that regards, at least from my experience.

RE2 looks like it could do like 5-7m units and get an 88+ on Metacritic and it has incredible graphics.

Not sure how much money was spent on it but it seems to match AAA budget games in most ways.

So what numbers we looking at tommorow?

Anyone expecting a total blowout?
I expect 120k Aces, 85k Minecraft (only because of YSO predictions, otherwise I would have guessed lower), Switch at 55k. No idea about Gundam, all depends on its first day sales that weren't affected by word of mouth, could be 110k, could be 50k, no idea.

That was MHW though, Capcom said that Switch might just get another Switch specific MH after generations... and we know it's going to happen.

I originally went for 120k for Aces and <50k for Minecraft.
Right now, I'm sitting at 140k for Aces. Minecraft could be everything really. I'd believe it if someone said 50-something, but if they said 100-something, I'd still believe them. I don't know.

New Gundam Breaker did have bad word of mouth even before it was released. Considering the massive discount is has gotten in so few days, I doubt it had substantial legs beyond its first day. The first day sellthrough was 30%, so my estimate for the full week is ~40%. If it's a 100k batch, that could mean 40kish copies sold. Sounds about right to me. Maybe slightly higher (towards the lower 50k max).
