Im expecting big things from that one. The game oozes quality and has co op and online modes too. Both Mario Maker and Luigi's Mansion will reach a level higher on Switch.
I think I said 8-10 million WW.

others were saying more 6-8 but I'm a bit bullish on it Worldwide

I think 1m in Japan is possible...but I won't officially predict it quite yet. (Cause I'm still unsure how LM2 pulled it off tbh heh). Give me a few weeks lol

What do you think they could do to fix it?
Go back to their PlayStation/PlayStation 2 strategies by making both universal games and japanese focused games

Sony found great success with various franchises aimed squarely at the japanese audiences. Since then (starting with the backend of the PS2 aera and evidenced by their PSP/PS3/Vita/PS4 outputs) they've proped up their western studios, kept PD around and gave more or less the middle finger to their japanese output.

They've been entirely reliant on third parties but why would japanese gamers flock to a company that doesn't cater to their needs? This is what Nintendo gets and does and it's why they always are successful, even with incredible failures like the WiiU (which had prety fantastic software attach rates for the main Nintendo titles compared to its existing base)

When will Famitsu scores for Yokai Watch 4 drop? I'm sure they will be more important now because of the gameplay change.

Kirby to get 1 mil w/ digital is a lock?

speaking of Kirby, one of the things I think will happen in 2020 is a Kirby (non superstar styled) game as usual. Like canvas course or rainbow curse, or the battle games.
every 2 years would seem about right.
Then the 2021-2022 one would be the superstar styled game game.

Bomberman keeps selling on Switch thanks to the budget version. Konami is late in releasing a sequel.

I'm kinda surprised the game is so popular because it's too fucking hard. My wife wanted me to get it so we could play together but we always lost against the CPU. It's my least played Switch game even though we were pretty excited about it.

It is all about local multiplayer. Every time friends visit my home, it is the most popular title. I bought a digital copy when it was on sales because of this reason.

Launch game + popular genre on Switch + multiplayer + cheap price = profits!

I think such high sales were surprising to everyone especially after launch. That's why Konami should be quick in releasing a sequel.

Somewhere. I think.
To the surprise of aboslutely no one, XFLAG's Mobile Ball (3DS, Mobile with cross-play) has been cancelled. Officially because they were not able to meet intended quality standards, but let's face it, even if it had it would've been canned anyway.

So yeah, that WW2 game is officially the very last 3DS release in Japan.

Btw, Amazon does have a PS4 sale until June 30th. 5k Yen off PS4 Pro.

Maybe they are working on a new one now, but Contra Rogue Corps is their multiplayer game for this year.

They also have Power Pros coming this week in japan i believe.

Thanks for the answer.

Do you think that they can create many games that will add maybe 5 million extra consumers to buy their home console though? Many of their franchises have seen a decline in popularity, and creating new games that will be very successful is naturally a lot easier said than done. I dont doubt that they can create great games, but that doesnt always equals big selling games unfortunately. Many of their first party offerings has also sold 100k+ in Japan, so those do cater to their needs in some regards at least.

I think almost how hard they try with software, stationary consoles wont have a chance to sell upwards to 15-20 million units in today's market. WiiU also had big franchises on it, but still ended up selling bad (the attach ratio is indeed good).

By the way, do Nintendo have any games thats specifically japanese focused? Games that sell much more in Japan compared to the rest of the world (universal games).

Dengeki's Top 50 is out. Around 70% sell-through for Doraemon: SoS.

Dengeki is making a direct comparison with Popolocrois, another Story of Seasons collaboration. They had a similar start but Dengeki expects better legs for Doraemon.
Popolocrois didn't show any legs, and LTD sales are just 80k.

Hopefully this ends last thread attempts to downplay the performance of this game.

If Yo-Kai Watch 4 sees a massive drop in sales, how does that leave Level-5? I have the feeling that they are in a very precarious position.
MS did say they'd like a Japanese studio and they already have Minecraft ripping up the charts.
PS3 sold more than 10 mln units i believe right? If you can't even outsell it, i don't think it was success but not even a failure, slightly underperformed. Problem is they don't have an handheld anymore.
We should probably wait until the ps4 stops being produced before deciding it can't outsell the ps3. It's ahead of it launch aligned.

Yeah. I remember how criticised Popolocrois' debut was but, in retrospective, the lack of good post-launch sales is what really made its performance disappointing. SoS games are usually characterised by good legs, given the audience they cater; first week sales being around 62,5% of its LTD sales is a sign of exactly the opposite of "good legs".

Mmh...compared to the older standards of the series (I doubt that was unexpected at this point), I assume?
Hopefully it can still go over 200,000 copies sold first week (it's my current expectation for the game).
Actually ISO predictions are around 115k, and it sounds it could end up even lower...

The 115k YSO prediction being reported here is an average of all the predictions posted on YSO boards (ranging from 185,000 to 94,000, IIRC). Don't take them as an accurate estimate of anything.

100-200k will be the first week for YW4. If word of mouth is good it will pick up at weekend but as an IP it has lost all of its power. If Level 5 didn't go from delay to delay it would look better 6 months ago.

Sure, the franchise has declined, but if YW4 is able to retain 400-500k units that would still put it among the biggest franchises in Japan bar Nintendo and Square top games and MH, lol

An Holiday launch would've surely helped. Hopefully, word of mouth is good enough to reach 200,000 copies at retail for the first week. Provided the word of mouth is pretty good, I can see the game selling in the long-run, reaching a < 50% ratio between first week sales and LTD.
...Assuming it doesn't leg out thanks to bargain bins.

If Nintendo can get the switch lite out in time for Japan school summer vacation, and Level 5 took the opportunity to heavily increase advertisings during those weeks, then I see the potential to sell even more than 750k.

Youkai Watch 4 is expected to open to double the opening week of the million selling Youkai Watch 1. Sounds like a success to me.
