230.000 is a big debut for SMM2 considering digital is not included. It's a 40%+ increase over the first one on 3DS and a 60% increase over the first one on Wii U.

Also, legs. I think at this point people should know how much Mario games are selling over time, right?

Speaking about namco maybe they focus on the rumored ridge racer switch
But it was supposed to be the same studio that were working on mp4

Level-5 detailed the roadmap for Yo-Kai Watch 4, courtesy of JapaneseNintendo:

We're looking at :
- Two new yo-kai offered with the purchase of a ticket for the upcoming movie this month
- A returning Yo-Kai offered with the purchase of the next CoroCoroc comic this month
- Large scale free update in early august with a new map, quests, two new Yo-Kais, bosses and new "friends" (idk what it means)
- Paid DLC coming this year with multiplayer "with friends and family", as well as "much more content".

You know what this Avada Kedavra guy was spot on about that Mario Maker opening despite some people shitting on his prediction a week ago. Credit where credit is due.

That's quite a bit.

MM2 should've had a much bigger opening than 230k no matter how you slice it.
The game has very strong wom though and will have legs for days so not a huge deal but that's not an impressive opening

Yeah, I was a bit wrong there. They gave a big range (150k to 250k) and I should have considered the top end range they gave to be more reasonable at the time than I did. I just wasn't seeing it opening lower than NSMBUDX at 160k or either of the previous Mario Maker openings.

Have we had any sort of indication about how well the NSO vouchers have done in Japan?

I know it kinda sounds cliche but I think we should wait to hear about the digital split for this game in particular, given the various digital promotions it had. We will know by the end of July how it did this week in Japan with digital.

EDIT: Speaking about SMM2 of course.

Not all Switch top games must open at 500k-1m.

230k would put SMM2 as the 6th best debut on Switch (without counting digital). The game will easly sell more than 1.5m, likely approaching 2m.

People had overly optimistic expectations for a game that is not a main Mario platform after all.

In order to compare, we need to know the following stuff:
- a sell-through number
- a sales number
- a shipment number

Nintendo provides digital + physical shipments, so in order to determine the digital share, we probably need to use Dengeki, since Famitsu only give a range of sell-through, right?

I know many people that wouldn't have gone for the digital version of SMM2 (btw the digital copy gives you the stylus too!) if it wasn't for the voucher, so there's that.

I wonder if that paid DLC is an expansion in the place of the usual third version.

Poor performance from MM2 considering retail only in UK doubled MM1 launch and indications from US is at least double

Yeah, or we can estimate based on Famitsu's range.

Paid multiplayer is self sabotage. What are they thinking?

As usual people call poor performance based off of retail sales. It's like they forget how big digital sales are lmao

Not really. What we know from the UK (relatively weak Nintendo market) is it did double at retail only and indications in the US are a minimum of double MM1 retail only. So it seems compatively weak compared to other regions

Yeah, this is true. Japan did have an additional digital incentive in the 3k yen digital vouchers but I don't think that alone would be enough to make up the difference in physical performance we're seeing.

It doesn't.

Wii U was way weaker in UK than in Japan. SMM still sold 1m+ in Japan, it wasn't a small game there like it was in UK.
