Actually, YS VIII on Switch did pretty strongly worldwide, having a bigger launch than both Vita and PS4 separately, and being not far removed from both combined.

Japanese is not too impressive, though, which is a bit of a trend with whatever NIS puts out on Switch.

Wonder why that is? Didn't Disgaea 5 do well in West on PS4/Switch but bomb in Japan? I imagine the same will occur for Disgaea 1 Complete .

This reminds me I need to buy Ys on Switch.

Bravely Default sales:
Code:
3DS Bravely Default 144.909 295.902 Square Enix 11/10/2012

That'd be a great number for Octopath to reach, especially considering the game will probably do much better in the West (which is a trend with Switch compared to 3DS: Japan is about equal for software titles, while West is quite a bit better).
at least is #1 already in amazon o3o??

PS4 is trending towards a decline year on year, despite the MHW hardware sales spike earlier this year. Summer looks like to become a really harsh one for PS4 in this regard.

Switch is selling really well, even though you might get a different impression by the constant concern trolling in past MediaCreate threads.

I am puzzled that people are puzzled by PS4 sales. It has not gotten price cut in ages, has weak release schedule and is already rather old platform. In western sales thread people are surprised that it has managed to be almost on par with last year (and with 2016) when most expected it to be down (because of age and price). Here for some reason it should be up yoy because it had huge release half year ago?

.

Yes- barring a significant price cut I see no reason to think it will beat 2017. The lineup is just bad.

PS4 2017 DQXI bump (bolded is the current, aligned week):

2017:
29.194
29.771
36.218
30.878
93.356
52.939
42.462
34.688 (end = August 20th)

Total sales - first week = 320,312 units

Extrapolating PS4 with 20k for the next 7 weeks = 140,000 units.

Difference = 180,312 units.

So, if PS4 doesn't move above its 20k number during the next 7 weeks, it might just lose all of the lead it had built up compared to 2017 by august 20th.

I didn't expect switch to be up week on week, pretty impressive actually. It's posting very solid numbers at the moment and with a pretty good release slate in July you'd have to think sales will remain strong.

I'm very shocked that a 5 years old console is seeing a decline in sales

Bravely Default sales:

That'd be a great number for Octopath to reach, especially considering the game will probably do much better in the West (which is a trend with Switch compared to 3DS: Japan is about equal for software titles, while West is quite a bit better).

I don't know about that... Bravely Default had surprising very good sales in the west. Definitively won't be easy for Octopath does better, imo.

What do you guys think about The Crew 2? It did almost double compared to the first entry, but it's still a paltry amount in my estimation.

Eh Bravely Second despite having to deal with the poor word of mouth of the first and being all round a cheap sequel got surprisingly close to the firsts sales. So I don't think it'll be that difficult. It helps that it has no competition as far as the switch is concerned.

Nah, Nintendo's stock dropping makes sense, their E3 was slightly worrying. Little to no 3rd party or 1st party from June to Spring 2019. But in Japan, Nintendo always sells. No matter what. Even if in the rest of the world, PS4 is selling like crazy
I literally have no words.
Yup, Anihawk (as always, thanks AniHawk ):
I did not expect this. I thought it would have done better in Japan while people in the west do not care about it. Very nice to hear.

Switch software continues to sell a great amount and the summer vacation hasn't even started. Evergreen titles from 2017 like Splatoon 2, MK8D, Zelda, SMO etc are all outperforming 3DS evergreen titles from 2011 like MK7, SM3DL and MH3G. Overall Switch has found a 40-50K baseline before the summer vacation where we can expect the next boost in terms of hardware sales. Over the next few months Switch titles should catch-up and overtake 2012's best selling games. Splatoon 2 will get a boost once the bundle is avaliable and if it's widely distrubted during Obon we could see Splatoon 2 top charts certain weeks this summer vacation.

Mario Tennis Aces and Minecraft will help on the software front since I expect both titles to sell a great amount during the next two months. Don't be suprised if Mario Tennis Aces greatly outsells Mario Tennis Open's 2012 LTD(291.001) sales by the end of August.

[3DS] Mario Tennis Open <SPT> (Nintendo) {2012.05.24} (¥4.800) - 101.645 / NEW
[3DS] Mario Tennis Open <SPT> (Nintendo) {2012.05.24} (¥4.800) - 41.479 / 143.124 (-59%)
[3DS] Mario Tennis Open <SPT> (Nintendo) {2012.05.24} (¥4.800) - 24.030 / 167.154 (-42%)
[3DS] Mario Tennis Open <SPT> (Nintendo) {2012.05.24} (¥4.800) - 17.856 / 185.011 (-26%)
[3DS] Mario Tennis Open <SPT> (Nintendo) {2012.05.24} (¥4.800) - 13.036 / 198.047 (-27%)

Octopath is set to be the next big release, this summer won't get a game as big as New Super Mario Bros. 2 but the sheer amount of evergreen titles coupled with new releases would probably push Switch software over 3DS software for July/August.

Given its sales, I dont think WoM was that poor. More like it looked too similar to the first (the idea is that you have to spend more to increase sales, and BS was an asset flop sequel)

Regarding Ys VIII sales, I did question how well the Switch version would do when there's already a portable version available, so the novelty of playing it on the go for the first time (like Skyrim or DB Xenoverse) isn't there.
I guess we have the answer, although any Switch port of future Falcom games will likely do a lot better with Vita out of the equation.

Wow, great news and really surprising. Hopefully it paves the way for more Falcom games on Switch.
Yup, hopefully other localisers like XSeed recognise this too and bring their games to Switch.
YS VIII is fine to play as is, and very enjoyable, but the localisation work for Trails of Cold Steel is quite a bit better than for YS VIII. So, hoping that XSeed localise TOCS3 AND bring it to Switch!

If the reviews are really good, I can see it being way bigger in the west. The marketing has been on point, and the game is able to grab attention very easily. If the word of mouth is good on top of that, then I have big hopes.

Well I didn't say toxic, more that it had an affect to some of the original buyers off but either way the base consumer base for these sorts of games on Nintendo handhelds is high and SE definitely knows this now. I imagine thy're gunning for growth here.

I'm not sure that's the main reason, though. Disgaea 5 bombed similarly, despite not having a portable version available.
