Setting up the context of the next game doesn't imply having to release the next entry the following year. Splatoon 2 released only two years after the first game because Switch released in-between. Unless you believe Switch 2 is out next year, which would be another issue. We know the last Splatfest of Splatoon 1 led into the story of Splatoon 2.
Splatfests and content updates are done, but they’re teasing a pretty big story event.
Do we really think Nintendo is going to tease the story of Splatoon 3 and then not release the game for 4 years?
The time between Splatoon 1 and 2 was just 2 years, don’t know how “just 3” seems so bizarre
This era-exclusive idea of Splatoon 3 releasing soon makes absolutely no sense no matter how you slice it. We're talking about a game that keeps selling, keeps getting supported with significant content and of which the producer/director of the game is currently busy on another big game. Who exactly was supposed to work on this for a release next year ? Even better: when was the last time Nintendo released a sequel to a highly successful multiplayer IP on the same console, apart from Mario Party ?
I'd understand supporting the idea of a spinoff/another game set in the same universe but with a different gameplay releasing soon to further capitalize on the brand. Straight-up sequel ? Not happening.
