Could Ringfit Adventures hit 2M and become a legit big series in Japan with a successful follow up, or is this just Coronavirus keeping people in doors?

Probably the second option, but if it does become a series in demand for Japan, we could see a larger budget in the future.

Nah, RFA has been sold out since launch in Japan, it's not just a COVID thing. It should hit 2M no problem.

RFA was in demand way before the pandemic hit.

I hope Nintendo doesn't rest on its laurels and keeps the release schedule up. Totally appreciate that Corona is going to cause delays, but best not to go dark or slow on releases where possible.

Their own current FY (conservative) forecasts had hardware sales at 19 millions based on the release schedule as of May 7th, so already revised compared to their original intentions. I definitely doubt their plans, even if revised, involve massively slowing down releases, especially as we approach the end of the year. That is, unless COVID causes further disruptions.

TLOU2 drop seems to be reasonably healthy for a front loaded story driven game.
Switch domination is just amusing at this point, especially when I consider how many publishers just flat out missed the boat on it and refuse to change stances based on personal prejudices getting in the way.

Ring Fit is amazing. People were expecting 100k for it back when it launched and look where it's headed now. Nintendo has a special ability to make people talk about their games and create word of mouth.

The goal isn't 2m anymore, it's 3m. The game would have already been a million-seller by late 2019-early 2020 if it had enough stock.

Some people in the last thread were talking about TLOU2 also having mixed WOM. I don't know if that had any affect on its drop though, I haven't really been paying attention to the game.

Yeah especially this type of game which has you coming back to it day after day, that's the type of game they will be selling for a very long time. If they can produce enough of them.

2,8K vs 8,5K last week for PS4 Pro could suggest some lack of stock for this particular model, but do you guys have a link to check the current availability of hardware in Japan ? I don't know much of these apart from Amazon JP.

The hate videos from people who didnt play and harassers have definitely come down. Lot of positive WOM have increased.

It's a divisive story

Really nice Switch hardware numbers. Good to see.

Disappointing TLOU2 drop. Sad to see.

Seems a good debut for Brigandine. Always nice to see long dormant franchises come back to find moderate success.

Ring Fit Adventure had around 400k shipments just in Japan last quarter, we'll likely get an update for it at Nintendo's report.

Clubhouse Games is also candidate if USA didn't show complete apathy again.

Asia should be strong too. Taiwan and Korea had the game there almost every week.

Also, more MyNintendo store lotteries for this week.

My question was more pondering about this being a one off title, or if we think a series could develop out of this with a bigger budget, without something like the Coronavirus adding to it.

Basically, is RFA really a 2M+ series in Japan or is this just the situation surrounding it, lending itself to higher demand. Although yes it obviously has wii series like appeal, I'm wondering if there is more there.

Yodobashi has the Slim model sold out at every store (has been like this for months). The Pro model is in stock at almost every store (21/22).

These old games that are coming out on the Switch lately are selling pretty much the same as they did before they got shelved. I wonder what that means.

I think there is a ton of potential to expand on this idea and I can't wait to see what they come up with for a sequel.

I'm not sure how much of western culture wars surrounding the game would have made it over to Japan. With that said, it's definitely a divisive story so I think a certain amount of fan disenfranchisement was always to be expected.

Cheers, seems quite the norm. Good that the numbers increased at least. Add some percentage of digital sales and I'd imagine Sony should be at least satisfied with the sales I guess lol

To me, that game look unappealing cheap at first, but turn out to be SURPRISINGLY FUN!

That's because other games of its ilk are unappealing and cheap. Only Nintendo had the desire to make a high quality product with this concept.

Nice Switch numbers. I just wish the Switch had the same attention from the Nintendo Ds era, when it came to game development. We have the hardware, just don't have the inspiration from the Japanese devs like we use to.

They're too busy chasing the west while forgetting that the Switch is also selling at a record pace there.

It's perplexing, to say the least. But it's working out fine for the big publishers regardless.

The Last of Us 2 did good in Japan but whether it will sell 300k or 400k when it's all said and done doesn't matter much in the end. Japan isn't its primary market, after all. The original one, only at retail between all versions, did 500k units; add digital and used sales and first week sales were always to be bigger than the first one.

Brigandine doing similar to the original release is okay but there's a reason it disappeared for 20 years. At least with the eventual PS4/PC release it should expand that base a bit more.

Could Ringfit Adventures hit 2M and become a legit big series in Japan with a successful follow up, or is this just Coronavirus keeping people in doors?

Probably the second option, but if it does become a series in demand for Japan, we could see a larger budget in the future.
2Mseems like a complete lock, the game has been completely sold out since launch and demand is nowhere near having been fulfilled. The question for me is more if it can do 3M.

As others have said, the game was already in high demand before COVID. At this point 3M+ is a very realistic goal. As for it becoming a long-term successful series, I guess it's possible if it becomes sort of a one-per-generation kind of game.

I agree, I'm more thinking about a sequel's potential to hit 2M and the ip/series becoming a 2M+ series in Japan.

Almost 100k in a random week whilst being supply constrained is quite something. It'd be cool to know just how high the demand is for the Switch in general when there's shortages all over the world.

These massive stock issues of TLOU2 and the Sony PlayStation 4™ have really held back the king of consoles in Japan this week. Luckily the PS5 is mere months away and will gladly take over the kingdom of Sony.

I predicted TLOU2 would be more front loaded. The audience in Japan for ultra violent games just isn't there to have sustained legs.
Yeah, you're probably right about that, but arent games like this (in a more general/broader sense when it comes to such type of games, not necessarily about being very violent) usually very front loaded?
