This looks to be another big week for Switch. Catherine around 10k and Iron Man around 5k.

I think the Catherine estimation is something thats to be expected? The real question is if it will sell over time, like many other games on Switch.

10k puts it a decent bit above the Vita version which was 7.9k FW. PS4 was 53k FW.

Here:

Catherine:
(first week / launch to date)
PS4: 53.606 / 69.804
Vita: 7.980 / 7.980
PS3: 136.531 / 210.543
360: 17.768 / 26.222

35k but since it'sa third release I hope it does well enough for Atlus

I don't know. It seems the game was already bought by its targeted audience back in 2019 when it released on PS4 and PSV. Perhaps we can say the Switch version didn't expand its original audience but I guess Atlus will find some new gamers in Western markets.

That was never realistic - this version already got released last year on PS4/PSV months ago. There is only so much milking you can do, for a title like Catherine.
This game exists mostly for the global audience and to get that engine running on Switch.

Those Catherine sales were expected especially after multiple releases.

Catherine was ported primarily for the western audience I feel. Also it helps Atlus use their engine on the switch for future releases hopefully.

Atlus: as you can see, our late port of Catherine bombed on Switch. Meaning that there is no fanbase for these games on the system, therefore we'll proceed cancelling Shin Megami Tensei 5.

Test failed.

Jokes are cute but I doubt Atlus 1st Production really cares much how Persona spinoffs do on Switch. That goes for both Catherine and P5S. It didn't sway them with 3DS either, or inversely towards PS360, Vita or PS4. Last time they bothered with a non-Nintendo platform was late PS2 and early PSP really, before jumping wholesale into DS.

What do we think will the Remaster of Crystal Chronicles sell in Japan? The original's LTD is at 354.991 according to Game Data Library.
The DS entries Rings of Fate's and Echoes of Time's LTD are at 389.845 and 259.705 respectively. The two Wii game didn't sell much more than 50k, but the Wii was never strong in Japan, so I think they're outlines?
Can we expect a return to 200k+ or would it already be a success if it breaks 100k?

I'd keep the expectations low for FFCC. 100k LTD for both versions would be great in my opinion.

Remasters don't typically do big numbers and also it doesn't seem Crystal Chronicles has much nostalgia going for it. Square abandoned the franchise a decade ago and didn't anything in the meanwhile. Maybe in the US it will do better comparatively speaking.

They're using an interesting pricing model for FFCC, if it can help brand exposure and lead to further entries that would be great (I'm sure that's the optimistic scenario) but yeah low expectations all around for Japan, the brand was never big to begin with and has been dormant for a long time, remasters usually don't sell much in Japan and this particular one doesn't bring up a lot of novelty either (I don't even think you can do coop any other way than online ? For Switch that's a shame really)

Also there's a mobile SKU so it could hamper the sales of the Switch SKU a little bit maybe, I'm not sure.

Anyway 100-120k LTD is the ceiling I think, hopefully 50k the floor

I think there is single screen co-op, but absence of LAN multiplayer on Switch is going to hurt it. Would have been a good game to play a la Mon Hun.

iirc there is LAN and only one cartridge is needed to make it work (you can download a Lite version of the game with MP and the 3 first dungeons).

from what I understand the demo is actually online only (which is pretty cool!) but i don't believe local play is supported. i might be wrong though

There is no single screen coop, the information was mentionned at first only on the Playstation blog then removed later on
All materials since have only made mentions of online coop, even local coop with multiple consoles seems to be absent

One million next month or September the latest.

Yeah, will depend on whether Summer help sales or not. I think a nice eShop sale would do the trick.

Updated milestones list:

  • July 7th 2020: 900 000 units
  • May 15th 2020: 800 000 units
  • April 23rd 2020: 700 000 units
  • March 6th 2020: 600 000 units
  • December 4th 2019: 500 000 units
  • July 31st 2019: 400 000 units
  • April 22nd 2019: 300 000 units
There was a big boost in April and May.

June report from Famitsu. ACNL is #1 again.

www.famitsu.com

Looks like the Animal Crossing fad is nearly over.

May: 790 260
June: 319 301

That's over 50% drop. Bomba? Bomba.

...

No seriously, that drop looks worse than it is because Famitsu had 5 weeks for May (April 27th to May 31st), and the entirety of the Golden Week during that month (despite the April 27th week only having 3 days in May...). Though it's clear Switch shortages didn't help.

***

Switch: 295.606 (355,993 last month). Given shortages + the fact that May had 5 weeks, that's quite good. June is usually a really poor month for sales, but not this year it seems.

Monster Rancher 2 coming to Switch and mobile this fall. Not sure if this is new information but it's trending on Twitter in Japan and people seem excited.
