In DQ10 people who get the latest version (expansion) can immediately gain some benefits without having to have completed all the story, is this not the case with FF14?

The benefits of the new expansions are given to all players without the need to purchase said expansion. For example, all classes have been rebalanced with Shadowbringers, but you don't need to have bought the expansion to have those benefits.

But you need to have beaten the main game, Heavensward (first expansion) and Stormblood (second expansion) to access Shadowbringers' content, so it's quite a task and reduces the audience.

Switch selling 6x as much as PS4 this week is kind of unexpected.
Nice that they finally announced the switch lite.
Value proposition seems really nice, will probably do super well in Japan.
Will probably be a great boost DQXIS and Link's Awakening which launch essentially alongside it

I guess it is nice that rebalancing and whatnot don't require the expansion (are new classes free too?), but it does seem like a damper on sales of expansions for people who haven't completed all the stories.

The switch bump arrived a week late! Seems to be a common thing for the switch. Now to see how sales hold up post the announcement of the mini. I don't think they'll completely tank but I'd expect to see them drop quite a bit before exploding in September.

PS4 dropping really low. Sub 10K won't be far away. Still think it has more life in it if it ever sees a good price drop.

Release date of Switch Lite was the expected but they were really in hurry to announce from now a model with so lower price. There will be some effect in sales but Nintendo probably wants to have a good view of pre-orders and what size of Switch market the new SKU will have.

That's a good guess.

However, preorders are opening late in Japan so it might be difficult to pivot ressources a few weeks before.

Yeah I didnt expect the Switch Lite being announced until after the July onslaught of first party games.. wonder how this new model might affect YW4's legs? Could it gain longer life thanks to it perhaps?

So basically from September 20 to... January, we'll only see switch and switch lite selling. Crazy o.O.
Considering Final Battle is available as DLC that's not bad for AOT2.

Definitely shows that Bamco is right to ignore Switch for teen focused anime games./s
Thanks for posting what I think each week.

Can we have a Mario Maker Wii U and Mario Maker 2 comparison? Considering that Mario Maker 3DS is going to outpace it soon given it got Christmas holiday sales, the Wii U installment looks to be more how MM2 will trend.

Will the PS4 beat the PS3 LTD?

They are getting closer each week and at this point PS3 still had a bit of life left. With the PS5 on the horizon the PS3 might very well overtake the PS4.

Huge Switch bump, great hold for Mario Maker and it's nice to see FFXIV in 2nd when a lot of purchases will be digital/PC.

It will be interesting to see the Switch figures for the next couple of months now that the Lite has been announced.

Only 22.260 units sold for Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers is a disappointing number. A comparison to the previous expansion:

I would assume the digital ratio would be higher than 2 years ago. Yoshi P said that WW pre-orders were double that of the last expansion.

Well, I reckon the Lite was announced rather early, hopefully sales won't take a strong dive.

But, the Lite version will slay in Japan.

Good Switch sals this week. I expect sales to dip for awhile until the Switch Lite launches though.

I'm also very curious as to which games will get the biggest bump when the Switch Lite is out.

I think the lite is just a strategy to get in the price conscious consumer. Its not going to sell more than Switch so I don't expect a big impact. It will probably add 20/30k weekly to the baseline though. Its will reach a completely different market.

Nice week for Switch and Mario. Some of the commentary from last week's thread now is yikes worthy lol.

Starting now, the Switch is about to regain momentum with one big hitter almost every month plus a cheaper model in September plus a dying PS4. Japan will be even more Nintendoland.

I'm curious what the digital rate for Shadowbringers would be. It's going to be higher than most games considering the nature of it, and there's the PC version as well.

If the game remains alive until September, maybe.

I'm worried about Fire Emblem Three Houses sales. It's an handheld IP, so I could imagine that people who planned to buy it will wait until Switch Lite (and then, maybe don't buy it or buy it used).

Nice hold for the GOAT. It should have great sales, and with Switch Lite coming everyone will scramble to play this.
P.S. パワーオーブ!!!
