Nintendo has yet to release a mobile game that's the same as a mainline version.
I was thinking more along the lines of the small spinoff 3ds eshop only releases they have worked on. I'm not saying they would be mainline or offer the same experience. I personally think that Switch will be fine with just one of each of those titles as both will have long legs. It can receive smaller spinoff entries as eshop/mobile only titles. Pokemon Quest did the same thing last month.

Are we seeing a return of the tactic where they underhsip a game to drive digital? Isn't that what they did with Fire Wmblem Awakening in the West?

No one would purposely undership their game to push digital. Digital is half the market. The other half isn't just full on going to suddenly flip for one game.

So what Im getting at is Captain Toad got legs? Saw it's been steadily in the high teens in the UK the last couple weeks so it seems like it'll be a great success and make some good money for Nintendo.
Well, yeah

Sales for Toad are strong, it seems. Japan especially has a big increase, and more generally I expect it to have great legs going forward. The original game had a x5.5 FW multiplier, for instance.

The Battride War games did very well at first on the PS3, but since the generational leap, it's all been declining. However, the Kamen Rider games on Wii and DS also didn't do more than little over 100k.

Maybe the Switch audience overlaps more with the Kamen Rider audience than the PS4 audience (I don't know whether Kamen Rider is still hot among kids), but I doubt a Switch exclusive Kamen Rider game would get above 100k.

It should be noticed that most of the Wii games weren't just Wii exclusives, but Wii / PSP multi-platform releases, with the following sales pattern (Famitsu, via GameDataLibrary)

WII Kamen Rider: Climax Heroes Fourze 21.736 109.116 Bandai Namco 01/12/2011
WII Kamen Rider: Climax Heroes OOO 28.933 108.225 Bandai Namco 02/12/2010
WII Kamen Rider: Climax Heroes W 22.832 101.630 Bandai Namco 03/12/2009
PS2 Kamen Rider: Climax Heroes 52.763 99.756 Bandai Namco 06/08/2009
PSP Kamen Rider: Climax Heroes OOO 46.702 81.514 Bandai Namco 02/12/2010
PSP Kamen Rider: Climax Heroes Fourze 19.929 60.719 Bandai Namco 01/12/2011
PS4 Kamen Rider: Climax Fighters 22.685 32.220 Bandai Namco 07/12/2017

Yeah true, you're right. And the PSP has indeed the handheld advantage.

But taking general decline of the console market in mind, I still think my stance on the potential on Switch still stands.

LMAO

------

Amazon Japan still offers Octopath with an August 4th shipping date. I guess then is when we can expect a really big restock, which may relieve the current pent-up demand.

Keep in mind that even though August 4th seems to be when the big shipment will arrive, it will probably not big enough to absorb the demand.

Indeed, Amazon has removed their usual 14% off on Octopath to slow down the orders.

True, but the August 4th date has held for weeks now (even went down from August 6th), so I think it will be very substantive and will relieve a good deal of the demand at the very least.

Octopath Traveler won't be without stock at Obon. If the big restock isn't for this weekend as speculated then deadline is the next one.

It looks quite good - weird statement especially after Splatoons success.

Copying the style of a successful game don't automatically makes a game a hit, on the contrary. Most of the times the customer seem to think such games are just cheap ripp offs, mostly for a good reason.

If this game had a more unique art style it would probably sell better, at the moment it seems to fall in the same category as the cheap animation movie rippoffs that appear after every new Disney movie.

Based on Media Create alone, we can estimate the Switch's sales from January to June to be about 1.2 million in Japan. The number shipped may be higher than that. How do you think the Switch has fared in the west so far this year?

I shutter at the thought of how much splatoon 2's potential would have been if it was say year 4 or 5 of the switch, how much faster it would have gotten to the sales it will get tonight

When did I say that the game would become a hit ?
We haven't seen nearly enough of this game make a call yet everyone here is already calling shots on it's performance.

There are many levels between Bomba and Hit.

Ah I see, my Resetera time stamp is on CEST time while I am currently in CEST +1, so Grads' post mapped out to 9 AM CEST instead of 9 AM CEST +1.

See y'all in 44 minutes then!
