TMS actually had a 60-80% sellthrough. That's pretty decent. What was the Wii U original's FW sellhrough?
Yeah, I feel like it may not be the 'bomb' a lot of people are saying it is. As in, it was probably a very easy and cheap port to make and Nintendo may not have had very much in the way of expectations for it anyway.

Senran Kagura: Peach Ball 12.629 (no-budget afterthought game)
Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura 50,000+ (no-budget afterthought not-even-a-game) (source: https://www.gematsu.com/2018/01/shinobi-refle-senran-kagura-sales-top-50000)

Kandagawa Jet Girls 7,749 (Hyped full-game title with anime spin-off)

These massive PS4 hits go on to reaffirm the brilliant decision Honey Parade made to skip the Switch.

Giuseppe: The next time I ask I'm going to believe you (laughs). This is something that many have been wondering about: why only PS4 for Kandagawa Jet Girls? Especially considering the censorship issues, why not Switch or PC?

Kenichiro Takaki: First of all, this team is actually not that big, so it would have been really tough to work on multiplatform. We really wanted to time the game with the anime release. That's why we wanted to focus only on PS4.

Giuseppe: Maybe you'd be interested in porting the game to other platforms you release it on PS4?

Kenichiro Takaki: Probably PC. We always try to consider PC releases.

Opening week sales in Japan:

Yakuza - 129.863
Yakuza 2 - 281.836
Yakuza 3 - 509.306
Yakuza 4 - 557.771
Yakuza 5 - 583.487
Yakuza 0 - 348.747

Yakuza Kiwami - 211.543
Yakuza 6 - 201.211
Yakuza Kiwami 2 - 127.013
Judgement - 153.577
Source

Yakuza has been on a decline for a while now, so Y7 doing at least better than Kiwami 2 and Judgement is a good news.

Edit: seems like the site is using LTD for the first week sales for some of those games which is weird and inaccurate.

I'm glad someone else noticed it. It's weird.

On the topic of Switch sales. Its funny it went from seeing shortages at 45k/week last couple of years to selling twice that during an uneventful week in months before the start of it's 4th year.

Miyamoto must have owed him 500 yen and never paid him back. that's the only way I can explain this

People assumed from the nintendo store being sold out as well as twitter.

Soup did make an article about it though.

Of course they did.

But yeah, I could easily buy a copy if I wanted to. Some stores didn't have it but it was likely not because they sold out, it's just that they probably never ordered and copies to begin with. This was a very low-key release.

Switch hardware is doing great.

I don't know if it was stated already, but what is the stock situation like with RFA? I know it's selling well, but is it still selling out each week?

Since Nintendo game don't depreciate and the Switch is seeing growth with no price drop in sight I have no idea where it will end up. Nintendo could support it for much longer than their typical console. Matching 3DS is entirely possible at this point.

hiska-kun always appreciate the performance charts, noticed however the sales and totals for week 312 and 313 for the PS3 are the same, is this a mistake?

I dont get it, takaki was one of the 1st people on switch, made a video hyping ul HD rumble. refle was a huge success and so should have reaffirmed his confidence in the system. But then he started distancing himself from the switch and even tried to hype up vita

Miyamoto must have owed him 500 yen and never paid him back. that's the only way I can explain this

I mean I totally get graphically intensive, Western focused games skipping the Switch. But unless there is some heavy Sony funding I can't understand the business reasons why:

Persona 5 skipped the Switch (when ATLUS decided that TMS was worth doing.) Catherine came to the Vita and only in Japan rather than have a worldwide portable version on the Switch.

Falcom games just skipping a portable version altogether despite sales history

Bandai Namco skipped anime games when the target audience for Shonen manga are elementary and jr. high school students. These groups are overwhelmingly on the switch. (Source: https://switchsoku.com/use/45803)

Konami skipped that chance to offer PES on the Switch and let the no-effort FIFA stat upgrade have all the football sales. (I understand the FOX engine is not ported but it still seems a big mistake). And that Vita got a mainline baseball title this year and Switch didn't.

SEGA passed on getting Sakura Taisen on the platform and decided that since a port of 2 PS2 Yakuza games on the WiiU didn't set the world on fire there is no market for these games on the Switch. (actually of the things I listed these make at least some sense).

I know. I know. These are discussed every week. And at first there seemed to be legit business reasons why games would pass on the platform. But as time goes on each PS4 exclusive seems weirder and weirder.

Maybe there's some sort of politics coming out of Nintendo that soured their support. But the problem with that theory is that some of these devs had no problem calling out Sony and whatnot. Someone would have spoken up by now

...many companies really make zero sense regarding the Switch, who really knows what's going on.

Sony outright made them restart the development of 7Even in the best case scenerio and they still support that platform lol. Dude even mentioned making a game for Xbox IIRC lol.

The situation with a number of developers and studios has been explained many times. It's either you want to accept it or not and will change slowly or never for some of them.

The way Japanese companies operate around specific persons has its good but also its bad.

I wasn't following sales talk until the 3DS generation, so I only have limited points of comparison, but the Switch gen feels so weird. The system seems to be on its way to selling about as many units as 3DS except at a higher price and while selling more games, yet it's been one giant missed opportunity for third parties. The Switch should have an equivalent to Monster Hunter and Yo-kai Watch by now. Capcom didn't bother, Level-5 screwed the pooch, and no one else has really tried. The system can sell third-party games but it's not getting the monster announcements it should be getting. This gen has been at the same time amazing and a giant waste. Are they all waiting to flood the launch window of the Switch 2 and then immediately bail if it flops?

These ports are free money, there's no bomb involved. Even the famous Capcom adult masterpieces probably make profit from first copies sold.

Everything has to do with image and expectations. We talk for Nintendo not a small company that struggles to sell a few thousand copies.

TMS was definitely developed/ported with the West in mind but I'm sure they'd have liked it to do better in Japan. I assume it will do a helluva lot better in the US than the original version did (of which I'm a big fan). Probably will sell at least a million here when all is said and done.

Tokusatsu and anime are practically brothers and Tokusatsu has far less appeal to those beyond elementary school.

Not a knock against fans of the genre [I enjoy it a lot] or the game [Wonderful 101 was my game of the year when it came out]. But saying TMS chances were ruined because of anime are disingenuous.
I was saying 101 won't be ported because it's even more niche than TMS

The anime shit was just a joke.

I mean I totally get graphically intensive, Western focused games skipping the Switch. But unless there is some heavy Sony funding I can't understand the business reasons why:

they are willing to die for Sony then its their choices/loss I guess.
If I can buy their games on the Steam then it is fine by me.
(I do have a PS4 though)

I have no doubt at all it will sell that many copies in the US. Not in the first month of course, but definitely in general. Software sales for Switch games are astronomical and they're doing a good job in pushing the new costumes.
#FE Encore is not going to sell a million copies in the U.S. Not anywhere close to that.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions will end up selling more on Switch than Wii U thanks to digital and Western countries. Of course, its sales show that the game has a hard time finding an audience even if it could have been targeted towards Devil Survivor fans with a different art-style. It will have legs on digital channels through discounts and thanks to other big jRPG releases.

27./23. [NSW] Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town <SLG> (Marvelous) {2019.10.17} (¥5.800) - 2.040 / 128.562 <80-100%> (-18%)

These are good sales and bode well for the next mainline entry in the franchise.

It should. It apparently sold around 200k on the Wii U. I see no reason why it won't sell at least 1m on the Switch. The user base and outrageous sales ratio of games tells me it can get there.
uhhh what

Switch isn't a magic bullet for niche games, look at Bayonetta 2 which increased only marginally (and that one did better on the Wii U)
