It's not supply issues though. It's that it's 2k yen cheaper with the voucher. As seen with Famitsu sellthrough was 60-80%.

Debuting first at eShop above specific evergreens might not be as easy as you may think.

Only January eShop top sellers will show how strong digital really was.

This whole game of "but wait there might be some increase over the original" is funny cause even if it literally doubled the Wii U version (and it won't) it still has no future.

I thought you would be better than this. Sure, someone in the thread mentioned shortages. But where in the OP of that thread does it say "shortages"? So no, it is not a thread based on a supplies issue narrative.

You are correct. The thread was not made to talk about shortages and there is nothing in the OP that says shortages. There are many posts in the thread that play on the shortage narrative using the OP as proof, but, as you said the OP does not so I edited my post. Sorry.

For comparation Sun/Moon did 14.69 million in 2016.
Sw/Sh did better in Japan, though it seem they did worse in America and France. i can see 14 million for this quarter.

I don't know why some people seem almost upset at people saying TMS is selling rather poorly. It is and well, it happens.

Point to keep in mind, it is the increased presence of the Switch in smaller markets vs the 3DS era.

When you compare Pokemon directly to Smash then you could see a sizable increase over its 12m number.

We know that Sword/Shield had sold 6 million copies during its opening weekend (source), which means it was selling faster than Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (which moved 5 million copies worldwide in three days - source). Super Smash Bros. Ultimate shipped 12.08 million units in 2018 (source), though that game launched three weeks later in the year than Sword/Shield.
Sun/Moon sold 3.5 million units in two weeks in Japan and Europe combined (source), and 3.7 million units in North America in more or less the same timeframe (source). That totals ~7.2 million in total in ~2 weeks.
If Sword/Shield is below Sun/Moon, that would mean "more or less week 2" sales would be below 7.2-6.0 = 1.2 million units. That would indicate a worldwide average drop of 80%. Of course this is just a small segment of the total market, but the physical market drop of the games in Japan was 72% (source). Personally, I think 80% would be a very harsh drop for a game like Pokémon, on a worldwide scale. I wouldn't be surprised if the digital share of Sword/Shield is higher than Sun/Moon's. Downloading big files from the 3DS eShop was a big pain, so that may also negatively impact the impressions we get in comparison to Sun/Moon.
Of course this is all based on launch period sales performances. We have no idea how Sword/Shield compares to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Sun/Moon in terms of December sales. I'm not ruling out the possibility that Sword/Shield did indeed ship less units in its calendar year of release than Sun/Moon did, but personally, I think the opposite is more likely, and I will absolutely not be surprised if global shipments of Sword/Shield in 2019 exceed 15.00 million units, or perhaps even 16.00 million.

Ok i understand your logic, but there's a problem: there is this 7.2 million figure for Sun/Moon which is fake, and people keep using it as official, and there are article over article about that. (And i know how that started... but let's just not talk about that lmfao)

Anyway, read this comment, i already explained how Sun/Moon and Sw/Sh sales comparation looks like.

Doesn't mean of course that shipments can't be bigger, i honestly have no idea, to me anything from 13 to 16 million seem possible but i just wanna be conservate.

It was expected for them to reach that last year but they didn't, if they achieved it this year it would be a fantastic result, and they will probably end up beating their 18m fy target.

I would be surprised if it didn't ship ~15m copy in its first quarter. in Japan digital share was ~32% in its first week, if we assumed it hold that percentage then it already passed 1m digital copy, and overall sales are above 4.3m, so the shipment is probably well over 4.5m in Japan, and I don't see it shipping less than 10m in US+Europe.

Looking at how things are going on Amazon.co.jp + its eShop placement, Void Terrarium might be a positive surprise for NIS, once next week's rankings are revealed. Definitely outside of the Top 10 if the floor is still over 10k+, but still good potential for a nice result.

The only proper comparisons for estimating Sword / Shield shipments are with other Switch games, Smash Bros. Ultimate in this case. 3DS market was drastically different outside Japan.

Because people will say its selling poorly when it's most likely along atlus/nintendo's expectations. People will throw around their own armchair expectations like they are fact, even chris has been more positive on this games sales than what people are saying.

The thing is "selling poorly" and "selling to expectations" are not mutually exclusive.

I think everyone will agree the port was worth doing. Very low cost to port. I am guessing it already met expectations. But what people are taking issue with is that even though the port has lived up to expectations it is unclear if Tokyo Mirage Sessions, taken as a whole, was a successful release. Even with the combined total of both versions its hard to argue that this game is a "hit". At least not one where one would expect a sequel.

Again, I'm not naysaying the game because I'm angry about j-pop, or vagina bones, or any of the other weird baggage people put on this game. I like this game. I bought it twice (once as a special edition). I want it to be a hit. I want a sequel. But even if digital were to match the physical numbers it would still not be the kind of numbers you want to launch a new franchise with.

And with that I'm done. I love this game but between the "Wedding Dress" fights, the dub-or-die people, pissed off SMT and FE fans expecting something else, the people gloating that it flopped, the people refusing to believe it didn't sell that great, etc. I realize that people are getting too emotionally invested in this piece of media. Including me.

Dengeki Online Sales: Week 2, 2020 (Jan 06 - Jan 12)

Interesting bits for me is Nintendo's 94% share of the market, new Minecraft releases still donning the Sony name for publisher and FIFA still performing despite all of EA's efforts.

Also I have a question for any Japanese school teacher. How big is Fortnite among your students?

Because people will say its selling poorly when it's most likely along atlus/nintendo's expectations. People will throw around their own armchair expectations like they are fact, even chris has been more positive on this games sales than what people are saying.
What I have said is that Nintendo doesn't care to port Wii U games that have been low sellers since it is a waste of resources that could have used better elsewhere.

That they bothered with TMS has to do more with Atlus incompetence to release anything on Switch 3 years in and with SMTV release date approaching fast.

It is an outsourced cheap port which recouped costs almost immediately and wasn't given advertising budget since it was known from the beginning there was low ceiling for its sales. I doubt anyone at Nintendo had illusions that sales would suddenly explode.

It's definitely approaching but the speed at which it is doing so remains to be seen...

That would be great.

Anyways here are my predictions:
Pokémon Sword/Shield: 14m
Luigi's Mansion 3: 6m
Ring Fit Adventure: 2m
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 22,5m
Smash Ultimate: 17,5m
Mario Odyssey: 16m
BotW: 15,5m
Pokémon Let's Go: 12m
Splatoon 2: 10m

Hardware: 9,5-10m

Yeah great prediction. I would agree to all of them :)

You have to consider that Nintendo overshipped Switch very much in the last quarter. Due to that, I would predict that the shipments were a litte bit lower in Q4 than a lot of people think. I would predict 9.5 Mio. shipped units for christmas quarter.

Is there any source on Switch being overshipped last quarter ?

Yep that's what I thought as well. They shipped a lot of consoles in Q2 (though I wouldn't necessarily call it an overshipment) and you would think a lot of it was in preperation for the Holiday season. And considering the Lite was not selling as well as in the rest of the world as in Japan I wouldn't be surprised if the shipments in Q3 were pretty much identical to last year's Q3.

Nintendo shipped 4.8 Mio. Units of Switch HW in Q3, the sell-through units were definetly much lower, especially for the shipped Lite units. Fo example, in 2018 they had the following shipments:

3rd Quarter 2018: 3.19 Mio
4th Quarter 2018: 9.5 Mio

So I would expect something like this for 2019:

3rd Quarter 2019: 4.8 Mio.
4th Quarter 2019: 9.6 Mio.
