Somewhere. I think.
That's much lower than expected for Fire Emblem, looks like the vouchers really hurt retail sales. Too bad we'll have to wait for October before getting data for digital sales.

Much better debut than expected for Tsuri Spirits, though. Wasn't expecting 47k. RF4S did fairly ok, come to think of it.

Ok sales for the Switch.

No digital sales so this doesn't mean much. Like we should overreact to retail sales nowadays lol

Digital did play a huge part to FE's debut. Adding in the same ratio as Mario Maker, we're going for roughly 200k.

High debut for Fish spirits as well.

Is the Sega Olympic Game not also on PS4 ?

FE did well - digital sales are probably higher because its one of the games where you saved the most getting it through the voucher program.

Always said Three Houses was going to sell less than 3DS entries in Japan while selling more in the West. Of course, we have yet to know actual sales given digital promotion.

The fishing game and Rune Factory did pretty well.

Normally digital sales aren't that bug but these vouchers are affecting things. Rune Factory and Fishing Spirits did well. Honestly unless digital is crazy FE might've disappointed.

One thing is clear, I fear: our prediction models need important overhauls due to vouchers' relevance.

Oh right: Fishing Spirit really came out of nowhere. It's unfortunate no one could pre-oh wait :P

For first time since I am following these Japanese sales threads I really don't know what to comment regarding the launch (performance) of one title in Japan due to factors out of my knowledge.

Even considering digital it's interesting how we have another Switch game breaking records in the west (UK and probably US at least) but not Japan. They desperately need the Lite at a lower price point for the Switch to really break out in the same way it has in the west.

Vouchers are really gonna make comparisons harder huh. Can't wait for all the concern trolling discussions about franchises opening lower than past entries.

Retail number is quite tough for FETH, unless digital is way larger than for SMM2, it represents a decline in first week sales for the franchise.

SMM2 holding well, comparison to SMM1 WIIU:

04./08. [WIU] Super Mario Maker # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2015.09.10} (¥6.156) - 24.533 / 299.865 (-19%)

Fishing spirits and RF4S did very well, great performances there.

Even if digital sales were 100k (unlikely) this seems like a below par result for an ambitious home console fire emblem that has been promoted 10x times more than previous entries.

Don't worry there will be plenty of concern trolling when Nintendo's next biggest titles don't sell as well at retail compared to the past.

Is there anything to suggest the vouchers have actually been a success in the traditionally digital averse Japan?

Some Japanese Switch games are priced much higher than they are in the west. FE 3H is one of them. Yet you can still use a voucher for this game, which equates to a pretty massive discount over the retail price. So for this game in particular (and some others, I think Astral Chain is one) we're expecting much higher digital splits than normal because of the giant discount you get from using a voucher.

Vouchers have definitely played a part but we've got to be careful not just to start applying arbitrary percentages to numbers.

Slightly higher first week than the best game in the franchise (New Mystery of the Emblem opened up to 136k in 2010 (and ended up the second worst selling game in the series, just ahead of Thracia 776, another excellent entry)).
Lack of face-fondling minigame or the ability to make characters fuck/make babies really hurt its popularity among the otaku crowd.
There is a face minigame unfortunately (if you do tea right, it lets you move your cursor over the character and they make weird comments).

Lite has nothing to do with software sales. 3DS was weak at west, it's expected records are broken with Switch outside Japan.

Not half bad for Rune Factory 4 given that it's not a particularly robust rerelease.

Wow ..slow down.
Even a Switch Lite wouldnt change much when it comes to physical sales when they have such attractive digital sales going on at the same time.

Digital makes more and more sense on Switch. If you are interested in F3H, you would just pay a bi more to get the game and Mario Maker 2 via the Voucher program for a little bit more.

...or this just shows the strength of 3DS in the domestic market vis-à-vis the rest of the world.

Also, Smash broke records in Japan just a few months ago.

The bolded is not actually a thing that tends to mean better sales performance in Japan, actually. As for the marketing, do we have info for that compared to Japan? Japan has always been the primary market with the first launch of the game, so marketing might be as big there as it was in the past (but again I don't know).

I'm not sure how that factors into it. The west has found the Switch to be a much better value proposition than the 3DS, while Japan has not, and this is reflected in their respective sales of the two. The biggest factor in that is probably price, so when the Lite launches for 2/3 of the regular price it should, in theory, bring aboard more of the 3DS audience in Japan.

...or this just shows the strength of 3DS in the domestic market vis-à-vis the rest of the world.

Yeah I'm not saying nothing has broken records in Japan, just that several games that are breaking records in the west (SMM2 is another) are not doing so in Japan, even if we consider digital.

Surprising that Fire Emblem had no effect on Switch hardware sales. Figured it'd boost numbers up a bit.

Considering the Lite is a known entity and that the battery life revision is also a thing the fact that it's still selling 40k probably indicates that it did give something of a boost.

While I still expected it to be higher, considering the huge advantage of using vouchers, especially an expensive game like this. I am not surprised by the result, we are really seeing the effect of digital even on Nintendo platforms at this point. I believe this game has charted #1 for a couple of weeks on the e-shop chart now.

Hardware for sure lower than I though though. People might really hold off until the new hardware hits store.

Rune Factory and the fishing game though.. did not expect that much

Vouchers mean people buying Fire Emblem digitally are prety much getting it at half price

It's almost a no brainer.

Digital did play a huge part to FE's debut. Adding in the same ratio as Mario Maker, we're going for roughly 200k.
Even at 200k sales would still be slightly disappointing, wouldn't they? Putting sales still below the openings of both Fates and Awakening.

Three Houses is all around weird, though. For one because of the voucher situation that potentially let you save a whopping 2k yen when buying the game, but also because it releases so soon before the Switch Lite, which potentially keeps FE fans who haven't yet purchased a Switch away from buying game and console.
