1.1M for DQB2? Cool

So somewhere between 500-550k in the west in about a month.

Japan is roughly 50% with digital, and the UK is roughly 0.3% ;P

In line with DQB which crossed 1.1m a month after the Western launch.

Decline in Japan but growth in the West, the game should start outpacing the first entry now.

Dragon Quest Builders
Japanese release date - January 28th, 2016
Western release date - October 11th / October 14th, 2016
1.1 million shipment announcement - December 1st, 2016

Time between Japanese release and Western release - 257 / 260 days
Time between Japanese release and the shipment announcement - 308 days

Dragon Quest Builders 2
Japanese release date - December 20th, 2018
Western release date - July 12th, 2019
1.1. million shipment announcement - August 8th, 2019

Time between Japanese release and Western release - 204 days
Time between Japanese release and the shipment announcement - 231 days

Yep.

The late Switch port should give a late boost to DQB1 (2 years after the JP launch).

Japan is probably a bit ahead, trackers have it around 500k retail and download sales are guaranteed to be higher than 50k

DQB2 First shipment was 275k for each version according to Famitsu (only Switch version got new units). With digital it is probably over 600k in Japan.

Oregano I think those two are hitting 200k :

03./02. [NSW] Fishing Spirits: Nintendo Switch Version <SPT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2019.07.25} (¥5.700) - 23.924 / 71.624 <60-80%> (-50%)

10./10. [NSW] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball <SPT> (Konami) {2019.06.27} (¥6.980) - 6.339 / 128.530 <80-100%> (-16%)

When a system is thriving, you always have nice surprises like that.

Very possible. That speaks more to the strength/appeal of the platform itself though.

I still find it crazy Level 5 is so close to Capcom and yet there's a big difference in the number of games. Capcom could be doing much better, but hobble themselves

This is more of a worldwide topic, but this thread is the one usually best for discussions.

I've been thinking about 2D Mario for a while now.

There are 3 main points:
-Do we think Mario Maker has replaced "regular" 2D Mario (this is a 100% no from me, but people have been saying this continuously since 2015)

-Now that it is on Switch and not Wii U, what is Mario Maker's true sales cap? Can it do what 2D Mario did on DS and Wii? Zelda, 3D Mario, and Smash have blown past those numbers on NSW so far. A port of Mario Kart is tracking essentially the same as it's counterparts. Can Mario Maker do likewise in relation to 2D Mario? Will NSMBUDX affect it?

-Point 3 relates to point 2. If Mario Maker is not the new 2D Mario, what then is the actual sales cap for 2D Mario in 2020+? Is Can "regular" 2D Mario even do 20 million in today's environement? 15?

I'll probably post my personal thoughts later

edit:
or maybe I should've made it thread. eh

And some people want to actually compare Namco and Capcom support...
The majority of Capcom's sales have come from Monster Hunter XX as well.
EA sold 212,000 copies of FIFA on Switch and they're throwing it all away.
Are they not releasing '20? I thought there was some controversy about it being a poor version of the game, but that it was still coming.

They are, but it's just a roster update. Maybe people won't mind but how many times can they re-release the same game.

Would be pretty weird to release a 2D Mario port and then a 2D Mario Maker and then release a new 2D Mario afterward.

Most of the Mario designers I'm pretty sure are working on Odyssey 2.

Yes and that has been true since the Wii U game. Also, 3D Mario games apparently are selling much more than before so Nintendo can push them as the proper Mario platformers.

It depends on many factors but the game can definitely go above 10m.

NSMB can also do 10m+.

But the sales of nsmbu are demonstrating that the opposite is true. Most were expecting it to fall pretty hard once smm2 came out, but if anything it's legs have gotten even better in most territories. There is clearly a desire for both games in their own right

to me, the only thing mario maker has done is virtually ensure that no new 2D mario would use the same style as one of those currently in mario maker

that would be lunacy

So do you want a third 2D Mario platformer? ;)

If SMM2 and NSMBUDX are selling well there's no need of an additional entry.

If it wasn't the case Nintendo wouldn't have release the two six months apart.

The only time I can think one SMB cannibalized another one was with the whole NMSB2 and NSMBU mess but then there were other factors at play (WiiU late development schedule and platform weakness).

Now that sales confirm eShop rankings and we know the digital only overpriced late Switch ports from Capcom are indeed underperforming RE5 and 6 following the same path looks even more possible.

From tomorrow 10th to the 18th included are the Obon holidays. Nothing to watch this year on hardware side. Software should increase the next couple of weeks.

Was wondering if there would be any, but looks like no delay for data (since next Wednesday isn't a holiday per se).

Checked the 2018 thread to make sure and saw MC chart with data and I died a bit inside :(

And yeah, expecting pretty meh HW overall.

The only time I can think one SMB cannibalized another one was with the whole NMSB2 and NSMBU mess but then there were other factors at play (WiiU late development schedule and platform weakness).

To be honest, I don't think those two cannibalized one another. There certainly was NSMB fatigue by the time NSMBU came out, but both games ended up selling in the long term (helped by HW bundles, though). Certainly helps that Nintendo has been going with a one entry per platform "rule" for this series.

Ys VIII : Lacrimosa of Dana passed 600,000 sales worldwide according to the latest results from Falcom. It was 500,000 last October.

Also, that's some legit excellent results for them, with a huge growth before the release of Ys IX. The western launch of Cold Steel III will count for the next fiscal year though, since it was pushed back to October 22th (Falcom's fiscal year closes in September).

Ys IX will see limited benefit from that growth considering Vita and Switch will have been major contributors.

Yoooo at DQV for NDS in the top 30!!
Obviously because of the movie, but it's still fun to see. Especially since the NDS has more games in the top 30 this week than its successor :v
