Now that they're doing Nocturne they really should do console releases of 1 and 2 localized. Even the iOS version of 1 is completely inaccessible. When SE is doing stuff like Romancing Saga 1/2, Trials of Mana, and heck even Live a Live there's pretty much no excuse not to.
I'd hope they remake 1 and 2. They haven't aged the best and 1's final stretch didn't really satisfy me.

I am very impressed the performance of Momotaro on Amazon (it is still #2). The game is not coming before November so it is very encouraging.

Last page about Dragon Quest.

For DQ11, It's kind of clear that the team was not ready, the game was a rehass of DQX with new engine(UE4), that's why Switch DQ11 port also redone the game from almost zero, cost money and time a lot and loosing face embarrassingly.

DQ12 you can easy bet it's multiplatform, even playable on your grandma wheelchair.

I've never heard of this series before. Is it that extremely popular? The little I see on Amazon looks like a board game ala Mario party and dokapon.

Momotaro Dentetsu is a game that Nintendo saved from disappearance so that Konami can now invest on it again.

Konami lends license for Momotaro Dentetsu to Nintendo, due for release next year

Nikkei recently put out a report discussing all the trials and tribulations going on internally with Konami. Lots of interesting tidbits are in there regarding drastic changes as well as a good look into why everything has shifted so much in the last couple of months, but one of the most notable...

Yep, very popular board game franchise based on Japanese railways.

It sold well on all mainstream platforms where it appeared, from SNES onwards. It sold extremely well on Wii late in its lifecycle and last entry did 400k+ on 3DS.

Awesome result for Buried Stars. Korean people always support their products, if the new The War of Genesis game delivers as the trailer shows, it could be a megahit there.

Momotaro Dentetsu series has sold more than 10M in Japan.
Half a million is doable for the next Switch installment.

Tangentially I think that Momotaro Dentetsu is the reason why Hudson Soft (who Konami bought afterward) was the company that created and managed the Mario Party series for Nintendo.

If this were to happen how would they likely be released? Digital-only PSP/3DS-style ports with minor upgrades or some sort of collection like Castlevania and Mega Man got recently? Or just a straight ports of the iOS versions?

Captain Tsubasa is 3 weeks away and preorders are really low. The trailers got a lot of views on YouTube and it was even trending on Twitter when it was announced. I guess all that buzz evaporated when it was revealed how jank the gameplay was. Guess it'll be another anime bomba.

Momotarou Dentetsu sold 400k copies on 3DS in the months before the Switch launch. If the Switch game is good, it should be able to easily go beyond half a million.

We've seen that digital shares have increased now in Japan as well, including casual-oriented and hyperevergreen games like Animal Crossing. Yes, there was a pandemic, but the consumer behaviour of the Japanese was much less affected by the pandemic and lockdowns than in Europe, so I disregard that as a reason for the significantly higher share of digital sales of Animal Crossing and Nintendo's first-party output in general. Why would this be different for a casual-oriented third-party game such as Momotarou Dentetsu. So it's fair to expect that the actual 500k sellthrough milestone will be met around the time physical sales exceed 350k (in case of 30% digital share), but likely a bit earlier.

I expect shipments of the upcoming Momotarou Dentetsu game on Switch to reach 600k, which is similar to the 2010 Wii game.

They had to. After Konami murdered Hudson the creator vowed to never work with them and the series was finished.

Fishing Spirits is family game on Switch and digital is almost zero despite supply problems for some time. Taiko on the other hand has good share of digital sales but nowhere close to Animal Crossing.

It won't be a mystery, we'll know from weekly and montly eShop charts where Momotaro Dentetsu is heading.

IF Rune Factory 5 and Bravely Default are still 2020 (I imagine we'll find out soon), holiday 2020 could actually be the first holiday where 3rd parties somewhat take advantage of switch holiday sales.

I had the impression that Family Fishing is really skewed towards a casual audience - families and kids - while Taiko has a sizable hardcore audience too - which might explain good digital sales.

This wasn't given big attention before. Digital stores are getting stronger but last Nintendo results confirm that these deep discounts affect digital sales/ratio and are in line with CESA reports that revenue takes a big hit comparing to sales for many games.

H1 2020 eShop top sellers
  1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo) [20.3.2020] a few million units :)
  2. Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics (Nintendo) [05.6.2020] 225k ≤ x ≤ 270k
  3. Human: Fall Flat (Teyon Japan) [28.12.2017]
  4. Splatoon 2 (Nintendo) [21.7.2017]
  5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo) [28.4.2017]
  6. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo) [07.12.2018]
  7. NBA 2K20 (Take-Two Japan) [06.9.2019]
  8. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX (The Pokémon Company) [06.3.2020]
  9. Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch for Nintendo Switch (Level-5) [20.9.2019]
  10. Minecraft (Mojang / Microsoft Japan) [21.6.2018]
  11. Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy DX (Level-5) [09.8.2018]
  12. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition (Nintendo) [29.5.2020] 125k ≤ x ≤ 145k
Going off the sales of Ninokuni PS3 that Chris posted earlier (~200k for Japan), it looks like the Switch version almost matched that result. Not in terms of revenue, perhaps, but in terms of sheer unit sales there's a chance that the No.9 position in the above chart is ~150-170k. Layton could also be ~130-150k, which is not a bad result, all things considered.

Another multiplatform release selling better on Switch than on PS4. Even a year ago some things were unthinkable. Japanese players are really migrating over Switch, even those who were traditionally Sony purchasers.

Everyone in Japan had immediately migrated over to the Switch the moment it was officially released.

CT is a global IP - it wont set Japan on fire but it should do well worldwide.
IF Rune Factory 5 and Bravely Default are still 2020 (I imagine we'll find out soon), holiday 2020 could actually be the first holiday where 3rd parties somewhat take advantage of switch holiday sales.

I really hope that RF5 takes advantage of the Switch hardware and is gonna be a showcase title - they took their time with this one and even provided a very robust RF4S as an appetizer...MMVs big shot to reach the next level with these IPs, the audience overlap between some of Switch biggest sellers and RF/SoS is massive.

So yeah i just hope it looks like a game with a decent budget and not like a 3DS game in HD - they cant afford to fumble the ball with this one.

I wonder how big the difference between Power Baseball sales are on PSN and Eshop. Don't PS4 games tend to sell better digitally or has it shifted since the pandemic hit?

We have little information about how non-vouchers Switch games are doing on the eShop other than the eShop rankings, but I would think that the unlimited vouchers in Japan are conditioning consumers to expect a discount when buying digitally so if a game isn't part of the voucher program it might be a tougher sell.

PS Store can't do miracles for PS4 when retail is weak and from the moment Sony has shut down all info for Japan we don't know specific game's performance digitally. For Power Pro we know eShop sales this year are strong.

These 70-90% off sales at digital stores are not very different from the overshipped games at retail that inflate shipments and have to enter bargain bins so that they are cleared. They show basically nothing in the big picture for a game's power.
