Why is Minecraft first place?
Was there a special sale? Or beginning of obon?

Very nice week with some great milestones.

Congrats to Garage Builder and MHS2 which both crossed 200k units at retail.

Game Builder Garage hit 200k. Super great result!

Going to quote myself here, because why say the same thing twice
Game Builder Garage has basically settled as an evergreen? Of course we'll have to see how things look a month from now, but I did not expect it to stay at these levels for so long, moving along with the rest of the evergreen titles etc. Miitopia on the other hand seems to losing a bit of steam.

Switch not coming close to 100k at this time of year means below 50k weeks after Obon.

Just saw that Momotaro crossed 2.3 million. Next milestone has fallen.

And only a few more weeks for MK8D to hit 4 million!

Minecraft/Mojang acquisition by Microsoft is still the smartest M&A transaction in the gaming sector of the past 20yrs at least.

Team 2021, what numbers do you expect Q4 to do? It never made sense why this year would outperform last.

Can we pour one out for #Team2021 and lay them to rest?
I expected this, and I expect worse in the coming weeks. This quarter is a gonner, it will all depend on the next quarter. If the OLED is responsible for most of the downturn we are seeing, Team2021 will have a grand comeback. If the Switch has simply stabilized in Japan, well then we (Team2021) have "lost".

Stronger numbers than the previous Q4 because of :

1. Stronger software pipeline (last year only had Hyrule Warriors/Pikmin from Nintendo)
2. The OLED model
What you describe will help Switch stop the rapid decline but not turn it into increase.

Software next quarter still lacks the title that could be a big hardware mover, a Pokemon remake is not a brand new entry and has limited potential.

Nintendo announced the OLED model too early in all honesty. It's cut hardware sales off at the knees in some respects and it's still 2 months away. It was a nice gesture for consumers, but it wasn't very smart financially. Could learn a thing from Apple -- announce it a week before it's on sale when its a redesign/slight upgrade.

Current baseline is around 50% higher than at the same period in 2019 (and before the Switch v2 announcement kneecapped its sales).

From that point, Switch sold 2.75m units in 2019 (Week 32 2019 to Week 52 2019).

Switch needs 2.55m in the same timeframe to be up YoY.

It might have a weaker release slate than in 2019 but the initial momentum is also stronger.

From a sales point of view it really was way too early, I think it may have been mostly due to the Pro rumors which were getting out of hand. They may have wanted to deal with any effects on their stock sooner rather than later.
Yup. Feels great to be on the winning team!
Enjoy this quarter while you can...

Yeah I just see those maintaining sales at best, not improving them over last year. Those shouldn't boost Switch above the ~2.2M Q4 it's done in Japan the past 2 years.

The next two months should continue a steady decline from 2020 that won't be reversed if 2021 stays steady over the past two years in Q4.

Like I mentionned, it could be down from what the Switch achieved in the remaining weeks of 2019 and it would still be up YoY.

Switch got a big boost in September in 2019 which made the Q4 last year, even if flat YoY, less impressive than the year prior.
