No new Zelda game in like 6 years or so seems insane to me.
What I think should happen (or hope to happen) is one around 3-4 years after BOTW came out, probably tied to the launch of a Switch pro or whatever, then the next one is launch window for the next system
2006 Twilight Princess
2011 Skyward Sword
2017 Breath of the Wild

2006 Twilight Princess
2011 Wind Waker
2017 Breath of the Wild
Skyward Sword you mean.
About 5 years for each, SS stayed on Wii releasing a year before Wii U.
Zelda dev cycle is usually pretty rough but I'd hope they start optimizing it.
TP and BOTW were likely pushed back about a year for new platforms, for example. Skyward Sword had to be rebooted for new controls and visuals

The BotW template is strong and there are able to work on a familiar hardware with a familiar engine. BotW successor wont take another 6 years, they know what the market expects from them post-BotW and dont have to try re-imagine OoT for the tenth time.

Unless there is any other smaller project New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04 should be Nintendo's final unannounced games of 2018. Only release dates remain but with a September reveal and Mario Maker rumoured for early next year November is likely and the sooner Mario Bros. could come out.

Is New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe likely to be the final title? I think having the U in there may confuse people.

What's the LTD for Triple Deluxe? Star Allies is starting to outpace it and with the holidays still coming up I have no doubt now that it'll sell better in the end.

Super Mario 64 DS
Star Fox 64 3D

Ah, good point. Thank you. Wasn't "64" a super recognizable/nostalgic branding for those games, though? I was under the impression "U" was more of a "erm, what is that about?" sort of branding. Please correct me if I'm wrong, though - I don't know what the impression of "U" branding is for the Japanese market - just seems kinda clunky titling to me.

It is clunky titling, but brand name on a popular system likely outweighs any confusion. People see "Oh, Super Mario on that game system I {already have|was planning to get anyway}, and it looks like the ones I remember fondly. That's awesome!". The subtitle is just gravy. Granted, the addition of a suffix like "Deluxe" which tells folk "This is the best version of whatever this is" probably helps.

(on a more personal level, I'm not too optimistically hoping for a surprise reveal that the prior versions are packed in -- I'd double dip at full price if the portable entries, which I've never played, happened to be included)

NSMBU and labo would be a nice way to round out the holiday line-up along with Mario party, smash, Pokemon and YW4. Pretty solid finish to the year. Could end potentially end up being 5 million sellers released within a 3 month period (Mario party being a long shot).

What's the LTD for Triple Deluxe? Star Allies is starting to outpace it and with the holidays still coming up I have no doubt now that it'll sell better in the end.

I think there is still a possibility that Kirby goes on to be a million seller (especially if digital is included). I think for a lot of games it will depend if they remain in the evergreens list once smash and pokemon launch. The switch baseline is likely to go higher so there is potential for some strong legs for all the evergreen titles.

About the Zelda, Mario, etc sequel discussion:

I've said since day one I think MK9 will be on Switch, so I won't change it now. I'm not as 100% as I was before, but still confident. This is assuming the Switch lasts for more than 5 years.
If major Track DLC gets announced for MK8D though, I might reconsider.

I think Odyssey 2 and a Zelda game that utilizes the BOTW engine will both be on Switch for sure as well. Zelda is a little tricky since it gets ports while 3D Mario doesn't. Also, we're not sure how it's 2D version is going or what it even will next look like.
but regardless, Galaxy 2 released in 2010 after Galaxy in 2007. And I think it will be similar for Odyssey. I see Odyssey 2 by 2020.

I think Zelda with BOTW engine will either be 2020, or 2021, leaning towards 2021 since it's Zelda.

NSMBU sold 1.2m on WiiU could it sell even more on Switch ? :O

No way imo

In fact, I don't think NSMBU will explode the way Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Pokken, etc exploded.
I don't think it was quite buried on Wii U to the same degree as other games.
Mainly because it was a launch title, and bundled heavily.

Not saying it'll sell worse than the Wii U version, but I don't see the same multiplier other games have gotten.

Nintendo 64 wasn't anything special at sales in Japan so that it's more recognizable than Wii U.

Speaking for Japan a retail release with both New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U in the cartridge didn't come out there before.

That's why the 2D Zeldas exist.

I don't think we'll be seeing them on Switch though... I suspect that they'll be going to mobile instead (we already know that a mobile Zelda game is coming, expect it to be reusing ALBW's engine and assets).

Don't expect to see another Zelda game on Switch; or at least not until Switch 2/Pro/S/Whatever.

Somewhere. I think.

I guess they could go for a Pokémon + Mario combo, like they used to during Wii U / 3DS era, but it does leave a rather big gap between MP and mid-November then. Guess late October is more likely.

I'd give 26 October or 2 November as the 2 best guesses for Mario Bros.

It's in the middle of Mario Party and Pokemon releases and isn't loosing Black Friday sales.

ARMS and Pokkén still hanging there. Curious to see Nintendo next plans for these franchises.
Bandai should make Pokken 2 should definitely hit later this gen. Maybe like 2021 or 2020.
The way Pokken is selling despite its content, and how big pokemon is makes it a no brainer.
Pokken doesn't seem to be slowing down in any western markets too.

It's been surprising. A sequel could pull several million

ARMS is hard. I think it's sequel will be next gen, not this one.
I actually played it for the first time since 2017.
eff springtron. It's fun.

MK8, too, wasn't buried (and sold more than 8M on Wii U!!!) and was bundled. Look at MK8D sales on Switch.

but MK8 was buried. It's sales on Switch seem to show that.
I'd say every game was buried by the Wii U, especially after early 2013. But NintendoLand and NSMBU were buried a lesser amount due to being launch titles.

If a potential NSMBU or Nintendoland port can pull off 2-3x sales multipliers like we're seeing with other games, then I'll say I was wrong.
I'm doubtful. Until I see the game's changes of course.

2D Zelda, whatever form it'll take, will definitely be on Switch imo.

I'm not sure how to successfully mobilze Zelda to make a lot of money (perhaps pay for items and pay to access dungeons sooner?), but I am sure that a 2D Zelda that was quality would have no issues clearing 4-5 million though.

There are some 3DS and Wii U franchises Nintendo will put to rest on Switch because of low potential sales but 2d Zelda isn't one of them.

At this point, the hold up is them waiting on Gen 8 to be released. Though there could be some synergy if they're both in the marketing cycle at the same time. Like an arcade release in 2019 with a switch release in 2020

So my guess is that we will have these 4 big titles (potential million-sellers) scheduled in a 2 months window :

- End October/Early November : NSMB U Deluxe
- November 16th : Pokemon Let's Go
- December 7th : Super Smash Bros Ultimate
- Mid December : Yo-kai Watch 4

Momentum should be indeed strong.

2D Zeldas won't be skipping Switch, wouldn't make any sense. Especially with the possibility to bring back 4Swords type of coop action with single joycon controls.

Is the Octopath stock situation purely Square Enix's fault for misreading demand? Seems like they may have potentially sabotaged a new IP.

Triforce Heroes format, random matchmaking with other players, small puzzle-centric challenges, lots of costume customization. Microtransactions for tickets to bypass timers, and keys to open random chests for costume parts.
i mean yeah.

but by "a lot of money" I meant enough to exist in lieu of a 2D Zelda on Switch, which is what OP was saying.

I think it'd make a cool supplementary piece, and we know one is coming (right), but I don't see 2D Zelda as a mobile game so huge it makes 2D Zelda immediately obsolete revenue wise.

In what way? BotW Link has already made numerous appearances in other games and Nintendo reuses engines a lot (who doesn't)

It was a reply to those who thinks that there won't be a nee zelda on switch with just 2d zelda on mobile

I think that instead N should

Develop a direct sequel to botw for switch as MM was for OOT

Develop a smaller multiplayer game as they did for crossbow training on the wii, for switch

Create a 2d zekda for switch in the same universe / lore of botw for switch

Release the 2d one next year
The spin off in 2020
The sequel in 2021

And use the engine for other games, not zelda related too

Is the Octopath stock situation purely Square Enix's fault for misreading demand? Seems like they may have potentially sabotaged a new IP.

Square screwed up shipment forecasts but the game still sold 1m in a few weeks. The game will have some legs so the IP should be fine.

Develop a direct sequel to botw for switch as MM was for OOT

Develop a smaller multiplayer game as they did for crossbow training on the wii, for switch

MM was a direct sequel to OOT?

Also, Crossbow Training wasn't focused on multi at all. It's selling point was the Wii Zapper. The multiplayer was just competing for the highest score.
