So I'm not up to speed on the latest development, but did Chris1964 ever clarify whether or not New Super Mario Bros. DX is from some external source or purely speculation on his part?

both M&L and Paper Mario will definitely hit the Switch.

oh, I'd make 100 bets on that.

Not that they'll be good though.

Paper Mario will be first. Either a CS port, or a new game by 2020.
M&L is just dumb. Whatever money they're saving from reusing assets for the 4th game in a row, they're losing it in potential sales of a 2019 3ds game. And time wasted not doing something else.
I think the series will make it's way onto switch in 2021 or later.
but both will come.

Nintendo effed those franchises so badly. What horrible management. Maybe their worst, unless it's something like Starfox.

You think their takeway from SS was that it was awesome and the critics loved it? I doubt it. You don't make BotW and spend a whole E3 showing how different and free it is if you think you nailed SS. You don't have a whole design document called "rethinking the conventions of Zelda" if you really think a 93 on metacritic was all you needed. SS critical reception was great, but it failed to be in conversations come GotY season and there was some backlash significant enough to be acknowledged by Aonuma at E3. (And before someone tells me GotY doesn't matter to them, please watch Aonuma's reaction at the Game Awards when BotW wins, I really think Zelda being at the top of the gaming world is really important to them)

Aonuma had been wanting to make Zelda open since Wind Waker.

SS didn't change that one way or the other imo

Vehicle Kit has bombing and shooting.
Haven't heard anything on a gun Kit, but I can see a shooting kit. Includes the camera that we saw

This came out at the announcement of Variety Kit and has been discussed before.

NSMBU DX has been hinted from far too many sources and it's irrelevant if someone believes it or not anymore.

Hadn't seen it, or at least forgot.
Makes sense with the camera, maybe the bird is part of it too as a Duck Hunt style game

Yeah, deciding to differentiate Paper Mario because they already had an RPG Mario instead of just keeping them to console/handheld at the time was pretty bad.
Alpha dream don't know what they're doing with everything post DS being kind of garbage. They're too similar to each other, likely thanks to asset reuse.
Paper Mario had been changing too much, Color Splash is the first direct sequel in nearly a decade but it's a direct sequel to the worst game in the series. Thankfully it improves upon it a lot.

As for Zelda, it's not like making an open world game on Wii was a good idea. BOTW likely came at the right time with the right tech.

It is not because it is not announced that it doesn't exist. Heck even NSMBUDX is not announced yet.
Animal Crossing
Tomodachi Connection
Mario Maker
Pikmin
Rhythm Heaven
Metroid Prime Trilogy

Haven't been announced either. None of them exists?

I'm just exposing my frustration, sorry. The NEW series are games which I have played too much and the whole series became formulaic in a way that none of the SMB games were. I started to hate them, even more their OST's.

But the Simon trailer for Smash made me remember how much I love both Luigi's Mansion games, even being released so much far from each other.

The only way to make me want to play NSMBU again is with a game-like expansion based on Odyssey. But the chances for that to happen, based on my experience of being a Nintendo fan for more than twenty years, is near to zero.

NSMBU is a cheap but highly profitable filler for the Holiday schedule.

LM3 is the next big thing. LM2 has been a tremendous success so LM3 is in the works and will have the spotlight it deserves. This Holiday is not just the perfect timing.

Frankly Luigi's Mansion 3 happening is just a matter of putting 2 and 2 together: NLG hasn't released anything significant since Federation Force in 2016 and Luigi's Mansion 2 was a huge success. It's a matter of when rather than if.

Speaking of NSMBUDX.... My son just came home with one of those Mario Happy Meal toys. Its a double sided maze, with the cover art for NSMBU on one side and NSLU on the other as its background.

Thanks for the clarification! So the 4th Labo kit was kind of already announced.
The original reveal video showed multiple projects, far exceeding what's been official announced or released. All 3 projects from the Vehicle Kit were shown in that video. Based on that video, there's probably 3 or more kits still in the works. I also wouldn't be surprised if the Variety Kit ends up being a sampling from each of the others.

I wish is was Mario Strikers instead. Think there's a ton of untapped potential in series.

You know, maybe you just need a break from 2D Mario then. Your reasoning for hating NSMB doesn't hold up very well, and I think the problem is more with you than the games themselves.

People do this with Pokémon a lot, and when they return a while later, they enjoy it again. So just take a break and play something else for now.

Luigi's Mansion is coming next year. The 3DS entry sold waaay above everyone's expectations and had great legs. The third entry will be an event and a big game.

Paper Mario will also return. Color Splash sold bad but it was on Wii U. Both Super Paper Mario and Sticker Star did very well. The IP is beloved and there are many ideas left.

If I remember, she said it would make sense, not that it was 100% coming.
We've seen nothing and the fact that Nintendo seems very uninterested in remastering anything pre-Wii U doesn't give much confidence.
well then less confident.

When she spoke about Smash, it was 100% confident language.

so it depends on how she described the chance for Prime.
it'd be cool though. Dunno who'd develop it.

Can anyone provide anything more on where NSMBUDX is coming from? Is it just a rumour or is there something more to it? There are other sites linking to this site and even exactly this thread as the source for this 'news'.

an article from Liam Roberson of Unseen64 fame (among other things like Switch leaks)

https://comicbook.com/gaming/2018/08/16/new-super-mario-bros-nintendo-switch/

not to mention, given how enthused Nintendo is with porting Wii U games, a port like this should be expected anyway

Thanks. So it's just speculation (albeit heavy) at the moment. The other places I saw it mentioned seemed to be suggesting it was a confirmed listing somewhere.

Got to agree, though, it does make complete sense so I wouldn't be remotely surprised to see it. They need something else this year and a port of NSMBU would fit the bill perfectly.

it's not speculation if there's actual sources. Liam Robertson does have them, even though he trips up and fucks himself over at times

Yeah we also had a few credible leakers here saying an NSMBU port is happening much earlier in the year. Granted they also said that we were getting a Smash 4 port.
When games are announced at NOE meetings the only things that are shown are tentative names and rarely 1-2 screenshots. Everything else is speculation based on these.

FWIW, first time NSMBUDX was mentioned was here on Era, by Ehoavash in January. Didn't reveal source, but I believe the source was verified by mods:

I finally got a chance to look at Nintendo's financials for the quarter and it looks 3DS is collapsing faster than I thought. From 20% share last year it fell to 7% and it will go even lower when FY ends. With how almost everything software related underperforms lately Luigi's Mansion will be in very tough position if it follows the general trend. Pokemon and catalog titles keep it still kinda alive at charts.

4/5 stars difficulty for YSO. Older releases will top charts, My Hero could make it into top 3.
