I wonder if the inevitable addition of SNES games (or an SNES tier) to NSO will be appealing to Japanese Switch owners. If we get a new influx of NSO subscribers or resubscribers soon that might be a good way to test the "NSO affecting Splatoon 2 (and other online game) sales" theory.

I lost Let's go overall performance
How is it doing in japan and ww compared to previous similar games (not exactly mainline?)

Retail number wise its doing about the same/a bit better than the last remake(ORAS) worldwide(source seribii on twitter), less good in japan and to compensate better ROTW.

Revenue wise its already about where the last new Generation is lifetime.
Its not exact since pricedrops and discounts through things like vouchers, but generally the higher Pricepoint is very good for their preformance(at least from Nintendo/GF/TPCs standpoint).
For worldwide Lets Go vs SM
10.98M*60USD=658M USD
16.2*40=646M USD

Even in japan Lets go is doing pretty ok from revenue standpoint, since
Lets Go vs ORAS
1598153*5980Yen=9556954940Yen(64%)
3198167*4600Yen=14711568200Yen(100%)
Currently Lets go made 64% of the money ORAS made lifetime.
(someone who knows better please correct me if they know the exact price of ORAS in Yen, could not find it beyond an article saying they cost "around" 4600Yen)

You could argue that they are doing not so good if you believe people reached(aka number of individual players) is the most important metric, though i would argue that to just reach people with the Pokemon Franchise they have Pokemon Go, with its basically Infinite reach.
To me it seems like the main metric TPC/GF/Nintendo now measure Pokemon games besides Go is revenue, since they basically got Pokemon in front of everyone with Go, and now they want to cash in with Console Games, Merch and TGC.

I've read some previews about Astral Chain and the game seems to be very good. I hope it will show in sales. I'm not that confident in the first week sales but it might be leggier than usual if wom kicks in. Also the vouchers will limit the physical sales potential a lot. Might be a surprise hit though.

I don't see how it's win win and I don't see how that's a response to my post at all.
legs is long-term sales. World still moving trackable new units at almost two years after launch is good legs, even at a lower price. it shows that there are still many folks out there paying the "new" premium to get into the MH ecosystem.

Yeah. The point was that it went up rather than down. He was happy for that. I don't see why people have to make it an issue.
It was one person commenting that a user that always goes the furthest reach to find positive ps4 stuff went for a long reach to see legs in a ps4 game, then a bunch of people jumping on them and making said comment an issue.

Follow my train. I didn't comment on that one.

This is a continuous issue not tied just to this week.

SMM2 is finally diverging from NSMBUDX, Fishing Spirits continues to impress, and Let's Go spiked for some reason. Good week for SW in general.

did nintendo ever confirm a date for when the better-battery Switch launches in Japan? beyond "last 1/3 of August"?

Wow...as a person that loves simplistic arcade fishing games, I wish I knew more about this one? I'm curious what is the best selling fishing game of all time not made by Sega?

missed last weeks thread. so would you call three houses performance bad? I know the voucher has a role to play and the impact can't be seen till NInty gives numbers. just feel it's not receiving the Switch boost other games have gotten.

Switch Hardware seems low. hopefully, the lite boost sales

They only said the last third of August. That's when Nintendo thinks they will clear old models stock. It will be funny if they miss the target date and it becomes September. That will prove that sales slowed down more than they expected, therefore the timing of the announcement wasn't the ideal.

Waiting for that to happen.

Switch sales are low BECAUSE the lite releases soon. Expect numbers to have a very larve uptick come September 20th

Edit: with regards to FETH, as you said, voucher could potentially play a very large role. That said, it's very unlikely that it will outsell Fates by anything more than a minimal margin, if that. It seems to do a bit worse than other 3ds games in that regard, although the bump from 3ds to Switch is not always that large (like with Kirby). Biggest growth has always been in the West, due to the relative weakness of 3ds there.

I'm still thinking the Lite will do exceptionally well in Japan.
I feel it will too. but looking at Switch overall sales I feel it may not increase drastically in the long term. it may cut into the originals sales and have a short-lived effect. The Switch is up YOY I believe, worried the demand may be interlocked due to the nature of the hardware and may not reach spectacular sales for more than a year in jp.

In the near term, I think the system will be up close to a million year over year from 2018. For reference, the system is currently over 330k up this year. I don't know if it will sustain the sales in the long term through next year, but I imagine Animal Crossing will help with that.

The revision started showing up earlier than expected in NA and even the UK (it wasn't supposed to hit Europe until September) so I'd be pretty surprised if it's late in Japan.

I've been looking to see what we could expect from Switch Lite but it is hard to predict. I imagine it will be big in Japan since it is effectively a $100 price cut and a new form factor. I think we will see a lot more of the portable audience and people who purchased the 3DS make the move over. Switch Lite, Pokemon Sw/Sh and Animal Crossing have the biggest potentials to expand and diversify the Switch audience. Looking at different systems:

PS4 Slim & PS4 Pro- The PS4 was averaging about 10-20k that year. It shot up to 96k when PS4 Slim released. It then settled down to about 30-40k baseline. The Pro model released shortly after and for the remainder of the holiday period the PS4 sold between 80-100k. Going down to ~30k post-holiday season.

PS4 price drop- a year prior the PS4 had a $50 price drop which shot the PS4 up to 46k.

3DS price drop- it shot up to 196k after the price cut took effect. Prior to that it was selling 15-25k average. It also enjoyed insane holiday numbers thanks to monster hunter and 3D Land.

3DS XL- It was selling about 40-50k in 2012 and it shot up to 220K on the release of the 3DS XL. The XL is an interesting comparison because it was the first 3DS revision and different form factor. It also launched at the same price as the Switch Lite will be.

I'm thinking the Switch will be well over 100k that week at the least going off of prior data. I also expect the OG Switch model to still sell pretty well.

Would you look at that! The KING is 10k away from hitting half a million units, did we somehow skipped over to the next century already?

Anyone who wishes to participate in the prediction league is welcome to do so!

Predict when will Super Mario Maker 2 reach 1 million units (purely Japan retail, no digital). Bonus points if you predict exact numbers (the closest one will win)

So far we have these predictions:

1. WestEgg: Week 49, 2019 --> 1,020,000
2. Zedark: Week 1, 2020 --> 1,050,000
3. Limabean01: Week 10, 2020 --> 1,003,000
4. Zakatana: Week 5, 2020 --> 1,026,000
5. Lelouch0612: Week 46, 2019 --> 1,020,000
6. Slarvac: Week 49, 2019 --> 1,021,987
7. pld: Week 48, 2019 --> 1,000,321
8. Adventureracing: Week 46, 2019 --> 1,000,050
9. Ryng Manuel Tolu: Week 48, 2019 --> 1,005,950

The grand prize is immunity for one MC week where you will be able to give a hot take for any console/game you want without anyone criticizing you! (No immunity guaranteed)

hiska-kun If you want, feel free to copy the Dengeki data into the opening post, especially since we have no hardware data from Famitsu.

According to Dengeki, Hardware is up this week (Switch 39.9K -> 43.7K, PS4 10K -> 15K).

Fishing Spirits is already the 3rd best selling game with "Fishing" in the title in Japan.

Bandai Namco has 6 Switch titles charting right now (and no titles on any other platform)
02./03. [NSW] Fishing Spirits: Nintendo Switch Version (Bandai Namco Games) {2019.07.25} - 20,512 / 97,745

Minecraft is ¥3.600. I assume you can even find it cheaper than this. So I guess if the price is already dirt cheap it counts? Lol

Huh? It's about it being on the charts for an extended period of time, that results in a high LTD/first week ratio.

Legs are quantifiable

Look at that ratio for the games in question. There's your answer.

Somewhere. I think.
So looks like they showcased the new SAO game on a livestream today, and I somehow missed it but looks like another UE4 anime game. Also seems to be runny quite poorly (or maybe it's just the stream).

(maybe it's actually the Switch version :P)

Looks like Fisico was spot on about UE4 being the reason Bamco aren't bringing some of their anime games to Switch.

Also, the Kiseki mobile game coming to Switch actually is brand new (simultaneous launch on mobile), was confusing it with another mobile game by the same company that's apparently still running.

Also, unrelated to Japan but still relevant in global sales context: Brazil to lower taxes on electronics/consoles, great news for consoles sold in the country (PS4 used to 180 000 Yen at launch). Remember Nintendo actually exited the market due to taxes (though that was during Wii U era, so not surprising).

As far as low budget UE4 Bamco game go this is one of the better looking one.

And once again the irony in the timing when for so long they released games that looked a generation behind to run on Vita and the minute the Switch is out they decide to upgrade all their games visuals.
