Yeah, Momotaro Dentetsu falls into the family-friendly category like Mario Party. Fun for the entire family and older gamers too. That's why it will be big during holidays.

Too many kids scared away by NSO to make Momotaro a million seller. Gonna get cut down like Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 DX, Let's Go Pikacu/Let's Go Eevee, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Pokémon Sword and Shield were before it
Is zakatana even participating in those threads anymore for this joke to still be relevant?

I know it's a joke, but seriously now Momotaro high pre-orders are from nostalgic people that played the game a decade ago or more, so people over 20yo. Kids weren't born or playing games when this was popular.

Each week it feels crazier and crazier how well Momotaro is doing on Amazon considering it's release date.

Vinnk called it back at the reveal

I just saw so much potential in the idea. It had the exercises of WiiFit but in a much more compelling package. The big drawback of WiiFit is it got boring and people abandoned it. Thus ending word of mouth. (I myself did it everyday for 2 months and then never came back to it). I figured since Ring Fit Adventure looked appealing and had and actual goal beyond "git fit" people would be talking about it for a long time (and it made me preorder it). I also thought that since part of the game is a cloth strap that gets sweaty, few people would want to buy it used, keeping new copies selling.

Splatoon and Ring Fit Adventure taking off as new IPs was good for Nintendo and both are popular with women. I wonder what Nintendo will try next.
Nobody truly does capture the female audience like Nintendo does.
And I don't just mean some Barbie game that only appeals to a certain sect of female gamers

Last 2 entries of Momotaro on PSP and DS at 2010 saw big declines at sales, 2012 game on Wii was canceled because of earthquake and tsunami in 2011 and the creator of series left the company. If budget reprint of Momotaro Dentetsu 2010 didn't show legs on Wii it's doubtful Nintendo would invest on 2017 3DS release and it would be entirely dead today.

I'm here every week. I just don't have that much to say. Not going to wade into the Monster Hunter on Switch arguments. I will however occasionally make a snarky comment about NSO killing all the evergreens.

I'd love to. I stopped because there wasn't really anything to report. But now with the Switch and Ring Fit shortages and the beginning of a new Sony generation, it might make for some fun anecdotal info. Interest wise, It would be a great time to start again.

Unfortunately with the global pandemic and rising cases in Japan I think it would be irresponsible for me as a parent to hit 8 game store a week to check on hardware/software stocks.

If things ever settle down, I hope to do it again.

Yes of course, this makes total sense. Better to be safe and do the right thing.

Imagine Konami having a million seller on Switch and not any other Japanese publisher.😂

Somewhere. I think.
I remember when Konami announced Super Bomberman R, there were a lot of "wow Konami gets it" statements in regard to their Switch support compared to other JP publishers who were playing the wait and see game, because people were expecting decent support (yeah, I know). Would be kinda funny if those statements still ended up true, but 3 years later :P

Regarding Momotaro, the opening of digital pre-orders will be quite telling re: road 1m. If digital sales are as strong as they have been for Jikkyou, it will bode really well.

Konami should get that TV show that boosted sales of the Wii game a few years ago to play the new one, get some extra exposure.

They'll use the profit to make new smartphone games.

Isn't that what Capcom did with Monster Hunter 4?:P
It would also be one of the rare franchise that became million-seller in the past decade from a JP 3rd party publisher.

Weird metric but when is the last time a long running series has grown like that? Must be PS1 days?

Monster Hunter was still new when it took off on PSP.

Someone needs to make a thread :^)

It's so fun to have endlessly looping discussions though :P

I have the book now in my hands.
Will take a while to work through all of it.

The bad news I have noticed so far:
Capcom has not updated anything, so no Monster Hunter World or other stuff.
FFXV got taken out of the ranking for whatever reason.

For the Vita is life crowd:
Atlus gave an official number for Persona 4 Golden - It shipped 1.5M worldwide

Capcom and Square Enix have stopped providing numbers to CESA since years ago.
