How many people are going to buy a ps5 at launch price just to play a remake? We've seen multiple times that remakes and remasters don't exactly light the charts on fire.
Not to mention it seems like a dead end, dark souls was the successful spiritual successor and sony also has bloodborne which sold more

Diamond and Pearl will lose its top5 spot soon.
And I have to remind myself that this is still New Horizons first 6 months without holiday season.

Kirby Star Allies is a million seller by now.

Famitsu at 2019.03.31 - 707.928
Shipment at 2019.03.31 - 860.000

Famitsu at 2020.08.16 - 832.423
Happy for my little boy, really excited to see what will be the next major installment of this IP.
Those DLC had some big implication + the last puzzle being Kirby waving goodbye with a little tear.

Hard to find a word to describe this performance.

EDIT: Just wondering why doesn't Nintendo invest in Monster Hunter clones themselves? Sony did a lot of heavy lifting in that regard with stuff like God Eater/Freedom Wars but Nintendo hasn't done... anything? It's such a popular genre nowadays and especially in Japan, I'm just surprised.
that just isn't how Nintendo operates. It goes against their corporate culture, I would say.

I don't think anyone believes in the last one, not even Level 5.

Seeing how GE, Toukiden and Freedom Wars ended popularity wise, maybe the reason is there.

Why would they need a MH clone as opposed to just working to get MH proper? Why do we even assume they could make one and it would be wildly successful?

I know we all assume Nintendo can make anything and it be super popular but that's a genre they have never really participated in and it took the king of the genre a decade to really expand its popularity.

Unless they come up with a twist to the formula (Splatoon = Shooter, ARMS = 3D fighting) I don't think it will happen. Nintendo does not usually make clones without a clearly differentiating element.

Do we see Nintendo releasing a major game in September or no.

If there's some event on the 28th, that doesn't really leave much time longer than 30 days for preorders to be up?

I personally gave up on this when Pikmin 3 was announced for October.

Then, checking other games that were announced and released short after, Ring Fit was officially announced on Sept. 12th and released on Oct. 18th.
This time is even shorter, so more reasons to don't see it happening.

Hopefully switch doesn't go below 50k.... I'm hoping for a low 80k but we shall see.

Software should be ok at least, drops sure but some new adopters picking up new software.

AC I'm scared of dropping, I don't want to see it fall under 50k

Animal Crossing will probably do close to 7 million physical this year alone at this rate. Nintendo can get away with Pikmin and some Zelda remasters this Christmas and be fine.

I'm doing a comparison (p diddy graph) with AC vs Pokémon SwSw and SSBU combined. If AC keeps up with it by Week 41 aligned than it'll hit 7mil retail. 7mil retail would mean just under if not exactly 10mil in japan during its first calander year

Nintendo not releasing anything in August or September feels pretty Wii-like, especially if their only two games in the last five months of the year are ports of Pikmin 3, Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, and Mario Galaxy 1

They didn't have anything meaningful in August/September in 2017/2018 either.

Still we'll know next week their line-up. I am expecting more than this obviously. Thankfully there are several high profile 3rd party games this Q4. At last !

Yup, in Japan Astral Chain is the only Switch game Nintendo has released in August. In the west they had Flip Wars in 2017 but that's it.

Guessing the release schedule for the Switch will go:

Q3 2020: Paper Mario, NBA 2K, Bravely Default 2 (not sure how this one will sell, guessing reviews are going to be pretty brutal), Mafia 1 remake (same as BD2)
Q4 2020: Pikmin 3, Mario collection, LEGO Star Wars Skywalker Saga (maybe?)
Q1 2021: Mario 3D World
Q2 2021: Pokemon Unite, probably some more stuff

Sometime maybe early 2021: New Pokemon Snap, Doom Eternal, No More Heroes 3

Wonder if Nintendo will kick momentum back up by Q2 2021.

You are missing a ton of relevant JP software. Momotaro is probably one of the biggest game of the year and is coming in November. Plus Rune Factory 5, Atelier Ryza 2 and SMT:Nocturne in 2020 too.

If you look at Nintendo's lineup for the last few years, August has always been a month that they ignore or release minor games very late in the month.

I feel like people keep forgetting we're still in the midst of a global pandemic. Companies had to change plans and releases were affected.

Was thinking about this but we had a discussion a few weeks back about AC being #1 on the weekly charts the most and deemed it looked unlikely but I count 17weeks at 1st. What games did over 20 weeks of 1st place on weekly? Does AC have a chance of doing that
