For anyone who knew about how the franchise does in Japan, yes.

It didn't any appear in any Top from retailers (Comg, GEO, Tsutaya) so I'm actually surprised it got to the Top 10 this week. Probably it sold mostly on Amazon which isn't tracked anyways

NMH1 opened at 13k, NMH2 at 9k (NMH1 remake on PS3 was 40k though)
That interquel Travis Strikes Again was a digital only release.

Now whether expectations were 10k or 15k the number is so low that no one really bothered, a few here kept mentioning the game for NSW line-up as if it was relevant and I guess it's the reality check if it wasn't already clear by now.

In a vacuum with growing digital it might do a bit better than NMH2 and crawl its way towards the 30-50k range LTD.

Oof. Admittedly, we're comparing a game that's available digitally with games that predate digital distribution, but assuming a 40% digital ratio still suggests a launch roughly comparable to the original Wii version.

As someone that was introduced to VNs with the original Mirror Moon fan translation of Tsukihime back in the day, the remake just blowing past everyone's expectations and if I'm not wrong, beating Fate/stay night on PS2 for the best VN opening ever is a dream come true. So happy for T-M showing they're still at the top of their game after years of FGO (which is fine but far from peak T-M). I was feeling pretty pessimistic about it after Buddy Mission Bond and Famicom Detective Club bombed too.

Based on the series history, not at all. That audience values games with fidelity and both Heroes' Paradise and TSA did pretty poorly on those platforms. It'd probably be even worse today.

Yeah it's absolutely crazy that this game is probably doing better than FSN PS2 did back in 2007 when we consider the digital sales as well. And they did this without doing any cross promotion with FGO or including codes for it, this is the surprise of the year.
