Vesperia had 2018 at Japanese trailer, for now it's still December.
___

Sales show Japan has started to get tired from the continued Nagoshi releases, I would keep my expectations low for the new game.
I personally think it's way too much, but people seem excited.

Still though, isn't Yakuza 4 supposed to release at the end of the year too? Talk about stuffing the channels.

Was expecting Switch version to be announced during the Direct, but guess not.

It's also multiplat in Japan.

It was probably planned to be part of it originally, but, like all the other announcements, they said "screw it!" and just went and announced it on their own.

Makes you wonder if Nintendo will even bother with a Direct now. Even The Pokemon Company couldn't be bothered to wait for the Direct!

Bundle - ¥37,980

Switch - ¥29,980
Pokemon+Pokeball - ¥9.980
3 months online - ¥800
Total - 40.760

There is a price drop for the bundle.

Price is 37,980¥ in Japan. The same as last year Mario Odyssey bundle.

https://www.nintendo.co.jp/hardware/switch/lineup/index.html

So Super Mario Odyssey was just a regular Switch and a physical copy of SMO & carrying case, while this bundle is Themed Switch/Dock, Pokemon Lets Go, Pokeball & free online for three months.
Main difference was that owners could resale the game after they were done with SMO, I feel Pokemon Lets Go is actually a better value even without being able to sale the game after you finish it. One thing I do wonder is if people not interested in Pokemon Lets Go can sell a download code & pokeball controller?

But will these holiday bundles offer any savings? Or will they be like the Mario Odyssey bundle last year that saved no money?
In Japan, people rarely expect bundles to offer savings.

For instance a can of beer is 248¥, a 6 pack is 1488¥, and if you buy a case of 24, you are luck if it costs 5904¥, which is a savings of 2¥ per can.

Bundles are for shipping convenience only.

It boggles the mind that Japan hasn't applied economies of scale to its retail offerings :p

I don't think God Eater 3 and Judge Judy will drive PS4 2018 holiday season. They would make a better line-up than last year but that wasn't hard as last year's bigger titles were Call of Duty, Earth Defense Force and Yakuza after Gran Turismo bombed.

The SEGA game will sell to Yakuza fanbase plus it's a new IP. It'll do well as it seems quite good but not a hardware drive. God Eater 3 is much less easy to predict. Previous God Eater games on PS4 sold badly but they were multi with PSV and in a pre-World world. Monster Hunter surely brought some new audience but I can't see the game doing more than what was doing with the 2nd entry.

They should announce a contest between Hino and Nagoshi to see who could manage to milk his franchises the most lol

So even a price drop/cheaper bundle doesn't seem likely due to the Pokémon bundle being MSRP, right?

The Soul Sacrifice PS Vita bundle was announced at full MSRP, then the Vita got a price cut before the game launched and the price of the bundle was adjusted as well. Sony obviously knew they were gonna drop the price of the Vita but just wanted to announce the bundle before announcing the price drop, so they gave a price they very well knew would change.

The Switch doesn't need a price drop this year though, so the price will most likely stick.

Somewhere. I think.
Looks like Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is getting a Splatoon collab. event.

Huh, interesting you actually get a discount. In NA, it's straight up Switch + Pokémon bundle price ($299.99 + $99.99). And there isn't even a NSO voucher.

Sorry for double-post but... Catherine out on Feb. 14 (not sure if already known?).

With how obsessed publishers are with Q1 on PS4, I guess we can look forward to another 9 months of weekly "wtf @ PS4 sales" and "what's the next big game for PS4?" posts.

Q1 is traditionally big for Sony, but it's becoming more and more extreme in terms of the Japanese market. And this year, a lot of Q4-avoiding western games fall into this quarter as well. It will be a bloodbath.

Seeing how World's hardware contribution was rather limited in time and scope I'm not sure it brought in that many new players

It looks like a good part of the PSP MH audience never went to the 3DS and just waited for a new PS game to delve back in.

It's worth noting that Nintendo has published at least 2 games that were banned in parts of Europe on Child Pornography grounds.

What are the expectations like for the Direct third party wise by the way?

What games are those? Is this just a case of the West over-reacting to drawings like in that Steam thread, or something else?

Well we already now about Civilization 6, FF XV PE, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. That's already solid but I am expecting more of course. So a good showing from 3rd parties.

Does this series actually sell enough to keep making new games? I will laugh if this Switch entry randomly sell twice as much of the previous game.
Code:
PSV Omega Labyrinth 24.894 33.747 D3 Publisher 19/11/2015
PSV Omega Labyrinth Z 10.918 16.847 D3 Publisher 06/07/2017
PS4 Omega Labyrinth Z 11.505 15.819 D3 Publisher 06/07/2017
Apparently they can get by on 30k copies.
