Jikkyou might have impacted. But I think the main problem is that the previous games sucked and had very poor word of mouth. Since there are better options this year for a Baseball game (Jikkyou), Famista is getting forgotten. If this entry is good, maybe legs and holiday season can save it.

This is just wishful thinking though. It probably has as good a chance happening as I win lottery. It's not impossible as long as I buy it but it would be just pure luck for it to happen.

When every company creates a new IP, I'm sure they all hope it can become a new phenomenon but I don't think any of them would count on it to happen.

The new phenomenons as was pointed out earlier have certain things about them that PlayStation often doesnt cater to or something that they would benefit from, for instance: free to play, or appeals to a group that isnt catered to as often as they should like animal crossing.

I mean, this is not limited to Sony platforms. It might occur on every platform, even Xbox.

Points are:

as others have pointed out, software houses capable of such things are few and in recent times only Nintendo was able to create unexpected hits; this doesn't mean that some unexpected game can't blow out on PS5 too but that the probability of happening is low;
in order for an unexpected hit to work as a system seller on a large scale you need a desirable platform to begin with; we have seen unexpected hits being unable to turn the platform's fate around: Splatoon on Wii U and Minecraft on PSV; both sold over a million unit and helped the platforms to sustain some sales but eventually weren't enough; we have instead examples of franchises that helped a successful platform to extend its lifecycle, see Pokémon on Game Boy, Monster Hunter on PSP and Yo-kai Watch on 3DS;
I feel PS5 will be constrained by the fact that it's targeting a high-end market which, in Japan, has been shrinking for years. In order to become a more mainstream product you must have a lower price and the right image.

I'm glad Korean players can experiences XC2, more people should play it.

I also wonder if the next big step for FE/XC is a FIGS dub like Zelda got for BotW. I suspect it may be expensive but I think it could push sales further.

The Nintendo franchise that would benefit the most from a FIGS dub is Pokémon. The XC/FE audience is pretty much accustomed to consume their games/media with EN/JP dub + potentially subtitles.

I guess if we don't see it at the next Partner Direct (most likely next week) along with the MH Switch all those MH discussions have somehow willed into existence, then it's safe to assume it's been delayed to 2021.

FWIW Kelios(the person who leaked the first partner showcase) seemed to think Bravely Default II would be a late September release a few weeks ago. Not sure what that implies now though.

On that note, if Sony wanted to talk third parties into giving each other breathing room like what seemed to happen this gen PlayStation could average a million-seller per year for the life of the system.

Media Create had Ring Fit 100k higher than Famitsu in 2019, which it isn't a small difference. It can just be adjustments.

other than DQ, those will all basically be exclusive to PS5 in japan anyway, there's no need to lock the down.
