Daemon x Machina is a complete bomb. No matter our expectations, 28k in Japan means worldwide numbers are far below 100k. Sales in North America and Europe look almost zero. Even with some legs, it's not likely to make a competitive profit, Considering the development time spent on the project.

Ports to other platforms will not save this game.
A lot of places didn't even get much stock. I had to get my copy digitally. Not sure if that bodes well (exceeded retailer expectations) or not (little confidence to begin with).

They went for the Armored Core audience, I doubt they expected a ton.
Seems like they will do another marketing boost once the game gets the PvP update anyway.

Why are people disappointed with the DxM numbers? Mech games aren't as popular in Japan or From Software would still be making Armored Core games (and the last few ones did poorly anyway)

For a Marvelous game with a brand new IP it did fine

That's a great point. I wasn't thinking about the joy-cons. Is the top 50 accessible on Famitsu's homepage? I have a page bookmarked, but it only shows 30 games.
No i meant the top 50 from Dengeki it gets posted in these threads when it's out but i don't have the page, Famitsu only releases top 30.

The KING is slowly approaching 1 million, but we are at the calm before the storm, so slow growth is expected. Just wait until Switch Lite releases
I'm not including the predictions from now on, but rest assured, I saved them to my PC already. When we hit 2100 I'll post them!

I do not think DxM was budgeted to sell more than what the genre expects of it lol

Expectations must be low if people think Daemon X Machina did remotely good. If a mecha game doesn't sell in Japan tell me where it will. That's a bad result.
Daemon x Machina is a complete bomb. No matter our expectations, 28k in Japan means worldwide numbers are far below 100k. Sales in North America and Europe look almost zero. Even with some legs, it's not likely to make a competitive profit, Considering the development time spent on the project.

Weird post. We have no worldwide data and 28k is obviously ok für such a game Japan.

Kirby is increasing WOW and should benefit from Switch Lite.
I expect it to benefit greatly. Its the go to game if you want to buy a Switch Lite for your kid.
Retailer expectations are low, but it's hard to say Nintendo and Marvelous were confident in this product, given the amount of marketing the game got close to release.
did it get a lot of marketing? Haven't followed the Japanese launch but I didn't see any adds for this game on tv or gaming outlets. There weren't even many previews.

For those who think DxM bombed.

What numbers were you expecting?

It sold 60-80% of what it shipped and was number 1 on the eshop.

I personally expected sub 20k and I think I was on the high end of predictions.

It's not to say that the game was definitely profitable. It may have list money but I don't think the result is lower than most people expected.

Oh right, it was data day. My takes fresh off the grill...

- Seems like a good hold for MHW. Good hardware hold too for PS4.
- Lol DxM bombed as expected since the first reveal trailer. I don't think this game would have had a chance on any plaltform.
- Evergreens gonna evergreen.
It's not to say that the game was definitely profitable. It may have list money but I don't think the result is lower than most people expected.
I define bombing as losing money, regardless of expectations. If a publisher expects a game to lose money, then I question their management. It's one thing for a 1st party publisher to eat a loss if they think it will increase the overall appeal of their platform/library, but there's no upside for a 3rd party like Marvelous losing money.

I don't think it is that bad to be honest. it is also doing well on the US eShop, reaching 18 on the charts. also marketing costs was on Nintendo.

Is it a real possibility that Switch does not have any sub 100k weeks for the rest of the year? I guess barring stock issues?

Or an I jumping the gun a bit?
I think it's looking like a strong possibility. The OG Switch 2.0 was running tight on supply this week selling 51k. With the Switch Lite, I anticipate it should start clearing 100k. Especially considering the Switch's non-stop stream of games coming for the rest of September until Sw/Sh release in addition to it's already attractive catalogue.

Neither Gears made it in top 30.

The only time we will see Xbox games charting will be during console launches.

Observation about FIFA Switch - if EA ever decide to throw in the towel and just give up, expect whatever the most recent version is to be the highest selling by some margin.

Case in point, Vita (which got similarly reskinned games every year):

FIFA Soccer (2012) - 5,970 / 17,318
FIFA '13 (2012) - 3,454 / 17,015
FIFA' 14 (2013) - 2,507 / 20,991
FIFA '15 (2014) - 4,523 / 64,134

Admittedly 27k of those' 15 sales are from the budget re-release, but it just kept selling presumably through being the only in-print entry on the console.

On August 11, 2011 3DS got a heavy price cut in Japan. At the same time, Nintendo released Pokémon Rumble Blast on 3DS which wasn't exactly a heavy hitter but still (it did 91k FW). It's not really comparable to Switch -> Switch Lite because it was a price cut and not a revision but at the same time the introduction of Switch Lite also operates a price cut. Plus, no huge games are released at the same time (Zelda will be big but not huge unlike New Super Mario Bros. 2 released alongside 3DS XL and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate released alongside New 3DS). At the same time, in 2011 3DS was just released and had yet to receive heavy hitters.

Week 32 - 3DS: 4.132

23./00. [3DS] Nazo Waku Yakata: Oto no Aida ni Aida ni | ADV | (Capcom) {2011.08.04} | ¥4.800 |

38./28. [3DS] Star Fox 64 3D | STG | (Nintendo) {2011.07.14} | ¥4.800 |

Week 33 - 3DS: 196.077

02./00. [3DS] Pokemon Rumble Blast | ACT | (Pokemon Co.) {2011.08.11} | ¥4.800 | - 86.294 / NEW
06./29. [3DS] The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D | ACT | (Nintendo) {2011.06.16} | ¥4.800 | - 31.772 / 314.075 (+538%)
12./00. [3DS] Nintendogs + Cats: French Bulldog / Shiba / Toy Poodle & New Friends | ETC | (Nintendo) {2011.02.26} | ¥4.800 | - 15.221 / 271.872
14./00. [3DS] One Piece: Unlimited Cruise SP | ADV | (Bandai Namco) {2011.05.26} | ¥6.090 | - 12.355 / 146.222
18./38. [3DS] Star Fox 64 3D | STG | (Nintendo) {2011.07.14} | ¥4.800 | - 10.579 / 60.124

So how big do you guys think the Pokemon boost will be next week?

1000%?
50%? Evergreens will get a strong bump, and Let's Go will, too. I wonder what is reasonable. I floated the idea that evergreens might get a 100%+ bump due to the Lite launch over at the PAL thread. Similar considerations are at play in Japan.
It is possible Nintendo Switch to reach 10,000,000 sales till the end of 2019! :o
It should pass the 11M quite easily, unless sales disappoint. Bigger question is if 11.5M is possible.

Wow!!! So, it will pass Wii sales in Japan soon. If continues like this maybe it will be the best selling Nintendo Home console in Japan.
Best-selling one is the Famicom (NES) with 19.35M units sold. Switch should sell more than that for sure imo. Bigger question is whether it can pass the 3DS to become the third best-selling system ever in Japan (behind the Gameboy /Color at 32.47M and the DS at 32.99M).

As much as I love the game, Daemon X Machina has definitely not done "well".

While they aren't quite the same thing, Armored Core is the closest point of comparison we have, and here's how those games have done:

Somewhere. I think.
I don't remember: does Dengeki track / attempt at including Amazon? There was an Amazon-exclusive SKU of the game which charted quite high alongside the regular version, that might explain the discrepancy.

Pretty sure only MC does. But there's been similar discrepancies before, so I wouldn't look too much into it imo.

I wonder if Smash, MM2 and Mario Kart will be above 80k in next weeks media create

That doesn't sound likely at all, that would be an astronomical increase (over 8 times increase for the best-selling game this week, which is Smash).
