Out of all Pokémon spin-offs, I didn't think Pokkén would have performed so well, being an old game in a niche genre (fighting games). It will be a mid-seller among spin-offs but the comparison is a bit unfair as Pokkén does also have an arcade version to rely on.

These are spin-offs Pokkén can aim at. 500k might be a too high threshold but I leave it there. It should have already crossed 240k with digital included.

Maybe I can start portbegging for Project Octopath, The World Ends With You Remix, SMTV and Ace Attorney for PS4 so that I can have an option to collect them trophies? :P

You say that as if there hasn't been port begging for all of them. Even USF2 had port beggers.

Not sure if I follow. SFIII was on PS2 and Dreamcast. While SFIV looks more similar to SFIII than SFII.

I might be wrong but part of SFIV's whole thing was that it looked like SF2, including having the whole SF2 cast.

I wouldn't put Splatoon at the same level as major MH releases just yet, when it comes to games sold. Afterall MH is a IP that constantly sold 4-5 Million units in Japan. Splatoon 2 sure has potential to reach this heights though since its an Evergreen title. There is no doubt that Splatoon2 will outclass MHW (PS4) in sales in Japan though, but obviously that has more to do with the weak PS4, than the actual sales potential of Monster Hunter.

Netmarble is bringing a game called Seven Knights to Switch.
Kimishima was right when they wanted people to think as Switch as a "mobile", rather than 1 per household (or the Watercooler approach, XB and PS are doing) Switch is more 1 per person, several per household

Grand Order on Switch when?

Now we need sale comparison between each game. I have a very vague memory that the best selling MH game outsold the best selling DQ game in japan.
The number one selling MH is Portable 3rd at 10th place with 4.7, right between Brain Training at 5.1 and New Super Mario Bros Wii at 4.6.

DQ 9 is at 14th with 4.3. MHP3 is the only non nintendo game to crack the top 10.

But Splatoon is on the rise and is approaching 70th place and the most recent MH games (excluding XX) have stabilized around 50th.

It will take a few years for Splatoon to get up towards the top, but it is super popular and all of my students with Switches have it.

In terms of absolute peak sales on consoles, MH has sold more at peak indeed. But I wasn't basing it purely on the size of the console market since DQ launches once per blue moon in which case, its basically impossible to compare the two on a straight pass.

So on what criteria do you use then if not the most obvious one ( peak sale ) ?

Wait why are we predicting Splatoon 2 to break 5 million? It has a long, long way to go.

Nintendo could announce and release Splatoon 3 before it even sniffs that number.

This would be very unNintendoish

Conservatively, if it sold at roughly its sales from this week continually, it would take 2.25 years to break 5 million. Nintendo should have some form of Splatoon product out there in that time frame or they are missing out. Especially with a product targeted at kids you run the risk of getting replaced fast if you don't stay relevant.

Anyways regardless, I think Splatoon 2 has a cap of 4 to 4.5 million at most.

Only one home console game on the list...wonder where the next one shows up.

Also didn't know AC was the best selling 3DS game in Japan. How far off are the 3DS Pokemon games?

Splatoon 2 sales are more often than not related to teh switch supply at hand. I'm not expecting it to stay at 65%+ but in the end I can see it go for 30%

Splatoon 2 will be in the top 3 for holidays 2018(and probably 2019 too).

It's going to be selling for a loooong time.

Wild World sold similarly to New Lead both worldwide and domestically meaning that New Leaf was equally strong outside Japan.

City Folk was more skewed towards the west but not by much and also Wii was immensely more popular outside Japan.

Splatoon 2 and Animal crossig switch will get there. Labo is a wild card, we'll see for the rest

I don't know how to feel about Animal Crossing on Switch. Animal Crossing on both DS and 3DS sold over 5 million, but not too much over that. With the current trend, eveything had a growth on Switch... but this can't continue forever. Not saying Animal Crossing won't sell over that, i just really don't know how it will performe. Would not be surprised with 6-7 million like i won't with 2-3 million.
Same for Labo.

Wait why are we predicting Splatoon 2 to break 5 million? It has a long, long way to go.

Dude, the game is already well over 2 million in not even 7 months. 5 million right now is looking like a conservate prediction, i mean, you do realize that weekly numbers right now are repressed by super low Switch stock, and that every christmas of every years of Switch life this game will get super big boosts?

And why you think Nintendo will release Splatoon 3 this generation? I mean, if they do then the second could sell under that, but i just don't see they releasing a new Splatoon game this gen. They will release Splatoon spin off, of course, but that's it.

so you expect it to leg it to near 6m at least?it will make the game the best selling console game ever you know

1) Why you say "at least" ? Let's read my comment again = " It has a good chance of being in TOP 5".
Good chance = Looks likely it will. "At least" mean that i'm saying it will sell minimum 6 million and there is no way it sell less than that, that's not what i'm saying.
Right now, i expect Splatoon 2 to sell 5-6 million in Japan.

2) "it will make the game the best selling console game ever you know" first that's not true, Super Mario Bros sold 6.81 million.
And second, expect Mario Bros, why should Splatoon 2 sell less than ANY others console game?
Do you saw last gen sales? Splatoon on Wii U outsold everything. Mario 2D, Mario Kart, Smash Bros.

The second best selling game on a home console is Super Mario Bros Wii, wihch sold 4.58 million, on Wii, a console which hasn't even sold 13 million.
Tell me how Splatoon 2 will sell less than that. Every sign point out Splatoon 2 will outsell it.

Every one of these games was significantly above 2 million at the 7 month mark besides maybe the first Pokemon.

Did those games had those sales in a system which only sold 3.5 million so far, and is on track to easy sell over 20 million?

I mean come on, you should realize that launch allinied sales mean pretty much nothing for a game like this. This game won't stop selling before the generation is over.

By the time 3DS got it's first 2M selling game it had already sold 10M units. Splatoon 2 has made it to 2M on a system that has just now sold 3.5M.
By the time the Switch is at 10M Splatoon 2 would have long ago surpassed 3M and would probably be closer to 4M. Just based on the current level of sales Splatoon 2 would be over 3M sales by the end of Obon. Currently Splatoon 2's performance continues to be limited by Switch availability, also it is by far the game effected the most by the Switch shortages last year.
