I think even to this day, some old suits at Namco still remember the beef they had with Nintendo. Namco is not loyal to Sony, but it does have the reputation of hating Nintendo.

I doubt they hate Nintendo since they make games for them like Smash and Pokkan. But they also do off 'we hate money' stuff. SC6 being the most glaring.

And I'm still pissed at Namco for that Tales of Grace burn.

Tell me about it. No matter your viewpoint, you cannot deny that was pure sabotage.

Launching a week prior to FF13 (despite it being underwhelming, it was THE #1 most anticipated JRPG of the gen), launching with horrific game-breaking bugs, the mass recall, and just blatantly making an enhanced version for PS3. On top of that, refusing to localize the Wii original, with their excuse being that the new content wouldn't fit. Even if that were true, they could've sold it for say $10 cheaper, or $20 even since it would've likely have been $10 cheaper anyway since that was the norm for Wii vs PS3 version pricing IIRC.

It was a mess from top to bottom and so much could've been prevented with a 6 month delay. They could've ironed out all the issues, and launched in a much quieter period. This was deliberate, I'm certain of it.

This must be a time to be alive for you lol

lol Best time.

Legend! I was wondering where you were. The celebrations for KH3 must have lasted well into the night!

There's no time to celebrate when you're playing KH3 for 12 hours straight.

Hard to blame him. The game is awesome!

lol I really was playing KH3. Had to force myself to take a few mins to take here during my break.

Bandai Namco is the last company that can be accused for brand loyalty.
They embraced PC. They embraced Xbox. Bamco is anything but loyal. The question that should be asked is not why so many games are PS exclusive, the question is why so many games are exclusively not on Nintendo.

I used the term "developers" instead of companies especially because its Bandai Namco. I know they are open and has been open for a long time, but this doesn't mean that apply to all their development teams and producers. BN also has no problem releasing games on one platform, which is ok sometimes because there are various circumstances, but its just in this case, it seemed obvious to me that the game will suffer without a portable option.

They aknowledged the demand though, and that is good.

Konami finally announced a new Switch title lol.

Konami should announce a lot of titles "sigh".

"Kingdom Hearts III ranked 1st for 2 consecutive weeks. The age group of sales is concentrated in the twenties, and in future it will be able to appeal to the age group of 30 or older who have played previous entries.

Resident Evil 2 ranked 2nd for 2 consecutive years. This also has good word of mouth, it is a game we want to see sales expanded after February. The ratio between Z Version And D Version is 85:15.

From new releases, Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists: Ateliers of the New World shows strong sales."

Are we gonna do that every single time when the game is mentionned?
It's getting old, most of the arguing is in bad faith, has been adressed multiple times and the game bombed, period.

Let me get my surprised face. It's just a shame the Z Version is still censored compared to the international release.

The bigger issue with Graces was deep sixing the western Wii release imo. The PS3 port ended up tanking overseas then.

Soulcalibur was the far bigger fuck up though, especially because GC/Xbox versions of 3 were deep into development when the PS2 exclusivity deal was struck relatively late. It backfired hard as Namco went from the 5.5m+ selling SC2 to just 1.3m SC3 iirc. In fact every version of SC2 individually outsold SC3.

Tales will have its chance on Nintendo hardware probably late this year.
Graces didn't perform well for a multitude of reasons but even if it had been a 100% polished experience the Wii in Japan was not the hardware for it to succeed.

I don't think it "tanked" especially, it was in the low range of western Tales sales (~250k) but not an outright failure, ARP was alright too as far as I remember.
Xillia sold 100k more later on, a notable difference but not a huge gap

Not too versed on the SC IP fate, but yeah that does sound plain stupid, though a 2005 release of SC3 on Xbox/GC game was poised to sell less than its predecessor.

250k isn't that bad actually, it must have done really well in Europe because I remember NPD being under 100k? That said it'd still be well below Symphonia, Vesperia and DOTNW (all were near/above 200k NPD alone) then though, not unlike Vesperia or Graces in Japan compared to the PS3 releases.

SC3 was a huge misfire and when the PS2 exclusivity news hit we had a credible insider on (pre Neo) GAF (Justin iirc) who at first said it wasn't true, then recanted and said he'd heard that from friends on the dev team who weren't made aware of the GC/XB cancellations until atter the public announcement. I agree the GC/XB ports wouldn't have matched SC2 but they'd have probably still done okay and pushed the total well over 2m. No PS2 exclusivity might've also led to an early Wii port which I bet would've done really well too.

What, you didn't like the tradeoff we've got with Legends? It even includes Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia so it's a perfect way to link both IP we were discussing about!

Symphonia was a beast (<700k) and pushed as a 1st party title, there was no way to match this level of sales until they put out a PC SKU for Zestiria, I've lost the numbers for Vesperia and DotNW (they both are somewhere between 280-320k iirc, Vesperia was a super late release in EMEA markets so it didn't help though)

Back to Japan I wonder how the split will go for the next entry in the series (waiting for confirmation still, but it doesn't hurt to speculate), Vesperia remaster (~60/40 at retail) might not be a good enough point to compare because it was widely available for PS audiences for a long time and offer absolutely zero added content, the PS4 audience being probably vastly made up by the former PS3 one, they had not much incentive to double (triple) dip.
On the opposite end it was the first showing of the IP on Switch, the game was made portable as well, Abyss 3DS sold decently (<200k) and despite all of that it was still easily outsold by the PS4 SKU.

If anything a 75/25 split wouldn't be a surprise, something like a 200k/70k FW with legs being slightly more favourable for Switch as usual.

We are entering slow weeks for big releases but the big amounts of new releases should keep the market active.

Gematsu picked up the Senran Kagura news and it definitely seems like they're going back to the drawing board with 7even and the franchise in general. Takaki seems to deflect blame from Sony's censorship policies though and says that every platform is moving in the same direction, which seems unfounded to be honest.

2 pages, the first page is just recapping an event, this links to the actual interview.
Has there been an update about what was actually said regarding the Switch? The rest of the news is just as confusing as before, would make way more sense to go multiplat (especially now that the Vita is dead) rather than trying to focus on games for specific platforms, and being reticent to do more.
It's like Capcom tests trying to find excuses to not support a platform in the future.

Also lol at teasing another collab with DOA6.

Wow, so he is digging an early grave for the franchise, all so he doesn't have to move it off the Sony system. Him saying other systems are doing the same is both pathetic and hilarious.

Well, in its defense, the Switch SKU was undershipped and never restocked. If that wasn't the case, I still think the PS4 version would have outsold it by no small margin, tho.

Takaki said that this trend of regulations is not limited to PlayStation, but will spread around the world to affect every platform and genre.
