Switch should hit 10 Million by the end of October.
Might outsell PS3 LTD by Pokemon SW/SH Launch.
Should pass PS2 launch aligned before the end of the year.
Should pass Wii early next year.

After Wii at 12.75M, the next consoles Switch could surpass won't be until next year's holiday season in Japan, that being the ~17M selling GBA and SNES platforms.

Famitsu has GBA at 15.5M lifetime.
I can see Switch at 11.5 million by the end of 2019, so if it can sell 4 million in 2020 it will beat GBA the next holiday.

07./06. [PS4] FIFA 20 # <SPT> (Electronic Arts) {2019.09.27} (¥7.727) - 9.435 / 53.186 (-78%)

Great hold for the king. It is nurturing PS4 pro sales for the coming weeks. If it can keep selling about 5k a week until the launch of the PS5 the ultimate succes is a guarantee. I'm glad Sony offers smaller third parties in Japan chances like this. It totally outclassed sales of it's direct Switch competitor as well, showing third parties just don't sell as well on the Switch.

We're getting to a point where I can't tell what is sarcasm anymore. (Forget what that phenomenon is called).

Really interesting that the more expensive, bigger Switch remains the better selling unit.

I'm impressed that the regular Switch by itself still outsold the same frame last year.

In a tough overall week for the Japanese gaming industry with a VAT increase the Sony PlayStation 4™ still succeed above all others, only dropping 50%, the best of any system on the market. It also outsold it's current generation rivals, the 3DS by a whopping ten times and the XBONE by an unbelievable one thousand times! In another trendsetting move it has four games in the top ten weekly sales, a feat unrivaled by all other home console units which combined had zero games in the top ten! The march towards year over year dominance over the previous market leader, the Sony PlayStation 3™ is progressing smoothly.

nice.

You guys are so petty sometimes. Jesus christ.

Anyway, big drops all around but expected. September had so many big releases. A slower October is to be expected.

It's strange to see a hardware market that favors a single platform 80%+ of weekly sales and over 70% of year to date sales look so disconnected from the software producers support.

The larger than expected drop for DQXIS is the natural consequence of its debut being inflated by the VAT increase. It did a good 50k higher than the average prediction, so now it evens out.

And just wait for holidays when Switch will sell 200k+ weekly if not close to 300k and the biggest third party games will ben Sumikko Gurashi and Yo-kai Watch 4++ 😂

To me, it isn't very surprising that the og switch is being outsold YoY. The 2018 lineup absolutely sucked, while 2019 saw possibly the best string of strong releases of any console this generation, not to mention the slight hardware upgrade. The switch in October 2019 is just a much much better offering than it was last year at the same time.

To be completely honest there have not be an onslaught of big JP games on PS4 either.

Biggest Holiday game should be from Sega tho (Mario & Sonic).

I know you two tried to be funny, but it is this kind of jokes that often derail threads.

Newcomer will probably think it is meant seriously and other will only roll eyes, because such kind of jokes had been made roughly a million times before in these threads. So what is the point?

Yeah, i think Pokemon will be big this year, and the Switch momentum will continue into early next year too with Animal Crossing. I also think its been argued that the Switch has basically no competition, which also helps in that case. Although i actually think that the Switch might have been able to do really well even with stronger competition, based on what it offers of both hardware and software. The Switch will probably end up selling 20m+ units (my first prediction was minimum 15m, but i think it will do more now).

EDIT: I added some text.

ERA's average prediction was in the 230-240k range for September, I think.
Yeah, the average prediction was 227.335 to be exact.

Mario and Sonic is technically a Sega game but I wouldn't consider it a third party franchise as it relies on Mario popularity. If it were Sonic at the Olympic Games no one would have bought the game.

Anyway, as Chris said, big PS4 third party games are scattered outside holiday period.

No price drop since this week last year, VAT increase and the ps5 announced. Big drop this week but I'm impressed it's affectively flat on 12 months ago.

Looking forward to the holiday sales.

Edit: on the weather front, hopefully everyone is fine. I have family in Japan at the rugby World Cup. Fingers crossed.

While I don't think the PS5 announcement will have an immediate effect, these sales occurred before the announcement this week.

Sony announced their next gen console earlier this year. They just gave more details this week.
The original press stuff had no date or name. Really no reason to bring that up now at all except to do some spin.

With word of layoffs at PlayStation, I wonder if Japan will be affected.

Sony has already taken a crack with a Playstation 5 in Japan with the PSP Go. Lets see if it will be different this time hehe :P

(Translator's note: Go means five in japanese).

I'm guessing there will be some more price promotions going into this holiday season at least. Not sure if Sony will do a permanent pricedrop on the PS4 simply to not get too big of a price difference between PS4 and PS5, but i dont know.

Sony won''t risk a permanent PS4 price drop (especially in Japan where circumstances for PS5 are even worse than PS4) when PS5 is coming and is heading for a very expensive initial price. They have been doing deals all year, they will have another big one for holidays like last December.

This scenario has been speculated for months and it's followed so far.

This earning's report should be a good one with a lot of updates and information. Hardware shipments should be big as well.
