That's a portable device? There have been a ton of different Shields throughout the years, but isn't the 2015 Gaming one mostly a streaming device that's basically a home console?

They all use the same chip. Including the portable one. The portable product line failing is why Nintendo got a really really good deal with the company.

I don't think a new mecha game/anime series will catch on with the mainstream of kids today, but I'm out of touch with the Japanese market. I hope Level-5 did their research and it's not just some childhood dream Hino always wanted to make.

First of all Level 5 must show gameplay, the delays will come next. It's not a title that will release before 2021 after all.

Atelier is out of stock everywhere, Gust has found a hit after a long period of stagnation.

Is Mecha just not that popular anymore? Or is it just that the few popular series have a stranglehold on the market?

Mecha, apart from the big giants, are pretty niche and aimed at otaku. Not a genre usually associated with the kids audience in recent years.

There is the Shinkalion anime I think that is somewhat popular, but apart from that I don't know any kid mecha show.

Tokusatsu are still popular with kids however, maybe they can aim at that audience?

I suspect Megaton Musashi will be a structural refresh of LBX. Sort of like how The Snack World was for Fantasy Life.

Pretty surprising too considering how many Atelier games they have been releasing for years. This is the second mainline game in 2019 after all.
They absolutely nailed Ryza's character design for otaku interests. Her scale figure (which is overpriced as hell as far as similar scale figures go) is near the top of the charts when it comes to pre-orders as well.

EDIT: Though it looks like the PS4 version on Amazon just got restocked, so I'd imagine other retailers should be receiving more stock very soon if not already.

Sony will phase out the 4 quickly since the 5 is fully backwards compatible. There's no need to keep it on the market as a cheaper solution
They'll produce and sell PS4 as long as people want them. They did it with PS2 and PS3. So it'll depend of the customers, not Sony. They make money on games and services, not hardware.

And PS2 and PS3 (in the beginning) where both BC with their predecessors so PS4 BC on PS5 won't make a difference.

The people buying into a PS4 after the release of the PS5 are not the customers who will be putting money in digital, MTX or subscription services.
I don't agree. Sony made bank digitally off so called casuals on fortnite.
I also dont believe in a super cheap PS4 for Japan -since its gonna slow down the PS5 adoption rate and make the PS5 look even more expensive in comparison. I might be wrong though but its probably in Sonys best interest to convince people to just get a PS5 - they are gonna need some kind of install base for next-gen only titles.
How will they convince people in the market for a super cheap ps4 to buy an expensive ps5 when the ps4 will have most ps5 games for at least 2 years.

With digital, services and MTX selling a ps4 will be much more profitable then selling the ps1/2/3 was post gen. It will be important to increase the Playstation eco system across developing markets, particularly in Asia.
How is the software situation for PlayStation 4? Is it selling on par with PlayStation 3 or is it significant down from last gen?
It's about 320k ahead of the ps3 and in 10 weeks will probably be 500k+ ahead. From the day it launched until the ps5 launches the ps4 will have sold faster then the ps3. Growth for Sony in the dedicated home console market.

PS2 was outselling PS3 because it was a sub 80$ system and that ensured its longer lifespan once the successor came out

When the PS4 came out PS3 sales cratered because they were never able to mass prodice it for cheap. It remained a 199$ system with episodic 150-180$ flash sales.

If Sony could permanently lower the PS4's price to impulse buy levels to breath new life into it, they would have done so a long time ago. As it stands the cost reduction mesures have reached their limit.

There's a reason Sony did a Pro model to make the base PS4 more attractive rather than a slimed down version

Wow, are those Famitsu stats correct? PS4 is 10 million units ahead in terms of software when comparing through calendar years 2010 for PS3 and through calendar years 2018 for PS4?

EDIT: No, that can't be right. PS3 and PS4 had different release months in Japan right? So there must be some more manipulation involved for a proper comparison.

You should be comparing 2011 to 2018 seeing as PS3 launched in November 2006 and PS4 launched in February 2014.

It wouldn't be a proper comparison anyway without digital sales.

PS3 ended with 76m sold at retail and it doesn't look that PS4 will come close to that number. If there's another decline in 2020, digital will have to cover a very big distance for matching PS3 software.

Sorry. That's a good question and I'd like to see the answer.
I misread his post.

How about digital revenue? Psn more profitable with ps4 or ps3?

In this generation, there also seems to be a lot more smaller/indie/digital only games as well. The PS4 has over 2000 games and the Switch is getting close to 2000 games as well. I'm not sure how many of these are released in Japan though, but i assume that theres a lot of them. While many of them arent big sellers, i think they all add up to a noticeable number if we're mainly talking about number of games sold.

The GPU in the Apple A12X used in the iPad Pro was compared to the Xbox One when it was first shown off
Thanks. Now that you mention it, i mean to remember some talk about that indeed. I looked it up, and it seems that Apple claimed "Xbox One class" graphics. I guess that gives some room for interpretation. But a SoC with such power for an afforable price in about 3 years might be quite likely.

EDIT: Though it looks like the PS4 version on Amazon just got restocked, so I'd imagine other retailers should be receiving more stock very soon if not already.
I wonder why it took a bit longer to restock the PS4 version. Doesnt they usually get restocked relatively quickly? The Switch version is still set for October 23. It might arrive sooner though. The PS4 version was set for Octorber 13 at first, but is restocked now as you mention.

Loves that spin.

I don't think we can compare software properly. Games data library has the issue of before 2013 the total software relies on the top # lists, and so misses a lot of software.
To be fair, he probably just read the last sentence as comparing the systems themself (hardware).

EDIT: Yeah, i see his reply above here now.

That seems like a good start for Tsum Tsum. Switch has shown there's a good audience for party games between SMP and 1-2 Switch so maybe this could be a surprise hit.

Tsum Tsum is not the type of game that sells a lot out of the gate. It won't do big numbers overall but during holidays it might have something to say.
