My first reaction at the PS4 sales was "wow that's high", then it kicked in that I just considered 6.5k high.

Sony shipping enough PS4 to ensure that PS4 stays ahead of PS3 launch aligned until PS5 launch, the only metric that matters.

Has a company ever had such an overwhelming market share in both hardware and software as Nintendo in Japan? 2019 and and even more so 2020 has been so lopsided in Nintendo’s favor.

Not really. The Pro version targets core gamers, with the PS5 they already have a product targetting that demo.
