Capcom is far from being able to compete big western publishers for high end market. They need huge expansion of the company for that.

They have 2 good years so far but we still have to see what's in the pipeline for the future and if they can remain at this level.
Being able to compete with western developers means that they also have to be able to support their games long term, which whether they could do that or not is still a big question mark

Capcoms "new strategy" is basically an admission to how they mismanaged almost every IP they had , besides Monster Hunter and Resident Evil. Their great new plan basically boiles down to having either one of both alternating with the other or even both of these IP per fiscal year.

I don't see how RE2 and DMC5 are "long term" games. With World, they didn't prepare for that all too well. It'll be a couple years before we see them do the long term support thing well

No need to mention RE2 and DMC, their long term supports for internal mobile games alone already showed. All of their mobile games that got shut down all have one common problem, the big one at that, the lack of meaningful long term supports to keep the active userbase

Esports is the next big thing in Japan with explosive rise. Awareness for esports went from 14,4% in September 2017 to 34,6% in March 2018 to 41,1% in July 2018. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be a big title for it.

3/5 stars difficulty for YSO.

Same top 3 with last week: Red Dead Redemption II, Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII and Super Mario Party. There's only one new retail release after all, Neko Tomo.

Can't imagine it cost that much and Nintendo probably did most of the promotion, I think.
It'll likely make money, but it was probably more to drum up interest and I'm not sure if it'll manage that.
Seemed to have reviewed a bit mixed due to the control scheme and I imagine a new game would probably cost quite a bit more

I'm a believer of a sequel to TWEWY being indevelopment but was canned due to the FF13/14 fiasco. maybe there was a planned sequel around the time of KH3D, but got dropped

I wonder who could make it.
There's only one KH team and they're probably on more KH.
Don't think Jupiter can make an HD 3D game, which is presumably what a sequel would be.

Platinum with their established partnership and Switch experience is a maybe.

I think a stylized cell shaded game like jet set radio future would fit the aesthetic and be light on the budget. PG has made a couple cell shaded games by now

TWEWY seems like a great candidate for that middle tier game that Square Enix has expressed interest in making, especially for the switch.

I wish Nintendo had thrown their cash behind that Mana Collection instead.

They subcontract on most of Level 5's games too. One of the hardest working shadow devs in Japan.

Any 3D TWEWY sequel will probably be in Unity, as SE prefers that for lower budget/spec games

SE clearly got spooked by the sales of DDD and combined with going all hands on deck to fix FF XIV basically stopped making 3DS games for awhile.

They had Theatrhythm, KH:3D and Heroes of Ruin underperform in three consecutive months.(although KH3D's under-performance was mostly Japan)

Yep I bought all three of those back to back to back. Clearly they only had high expectations for one of them and even then it did not meet them. Then they took a siesta, a very long one when it came to publishing games outside of Japan.

Preorders for Smash and Pokemon bundles have reopened at stores they had closed. It's still unknown what will happen after Pokemon comes out and for how long Nintendo will keep printing them, especially for Smash.

because that was a different producer entirely. why wouldn't it be 3D under Nomura?

This is a shot in the dark with zero proof on either side whatsoever, why would it be 3D? The core gameplay of TWEWY doesn't require the game to be in 3D unlike KH for example.

Note that I'm not saying SE would produce a full 2D sequel of TWEWY (heck even TWEWY had a few 3D backgrounds at some locations), that's something of the past, but there's no need for the game to go for a full 3D look when it would be poised to be on the lower end of budget of Square-Enix output in the first place, a 2D look can appeal to a wide enough target audience as it's been shown with Octopath and a few others titles.

Octopath is still 3D and runs in UE4.
It could be if they want to keep it really low budget, but idk

By all intent and purposes Octopath still look and play like a 2D title, going with 2D doesn't necessary mean going low budget either, quite the opposite even if they want to achieve a certain look like Octopath.

KH was 2D before as well (still is with the mobile game). if appealing to a wide enough audience was an issue, then TWEWY as a concept would be suspect long before any decision of the game being 2D or 3D would be made.

Yes spin-off with completely different gameplay and even target audience arguably, I don't think TWEWY is in any position to afford any kind of spin-off.
The problem when targeting a niche audience and reach a wider one is that first you need to get that niche audience, make the product similar enough that they instantly recognize it and make it look like appealing enough if there's any change applied (both on visual and gameplay front), then you try at the same time to make it seem more modern to reach that wider audience.

This is why something like Secret of Mana remake was a mixed bag, they didn't find the right balance between these two aspects.

It is the long-awaited work of Rockstar Games (published by Take-Two Interactive Japan) and the highest graphic peak and open world game as shown by the first two-disc game in PS4 history. It is a title attracting attention throughout the world and expectations will depend from how much sales will be expanded in the future.
In other new releases [PS4] Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection ranked 4th and [NSW] Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection 8th. This is a 30th anniversary celebration of 12 titles and you can expect long-term sales."

Resident Evil defined PlayStation but that puts a Cero D classification.

Tomorrow is Nintendo Q2 Fiscal year.
Don't know what i can expect about Nintendo Labo and Captain Toad.
On Q1, Nintendo labo series overall reached 1.39 M.
So , i'm thinking that multi-kit was at 800K around and Robot kit 500K.
Tomorrow, Multi-kit has a small chance to be million seller.
About Captain Toad, i hope official number even if it is not yet million seller. ( at least in "presentation material " pdf )

Captain Toad Switch will be a million seller by the end of FY but maybe not from now. With 3DS though it is likely there already but there's no way to know unless Nintendo mentions it.

There's no chance Labo has gotten additional shipments last quarter.

In general this will be a big week for Nintendo updates and news.

Are we expecting Nintendo to decrease hardware forecast and increase software forecast?
