Call of Duty Y-O-Y drop could be bigger than 30%.

With how aggressive goes Sony of Europe Japan will surely have another massive promotion for PS4 this December.

I'm hearing Capcom will ask publicly Nintendo's financial help so that the last unreleased Switch adult masterpiece doesn't have bigger price increase from DMC 1 and 2.

If a drop of 30% or more happens, then that would mean that CoD: MW does < 163,633. That would put it dead average with the CoDs of the last two gens, or below it if the drop is much larger than 30%.

Retailers had mentioned that a main reason Call of Duty went so high last year was because of the Monster Hunter World audience that was looking for an alternative game to play. Since there isn't this effect anymore, sales will decline too.

That M&S at the Olympics number would be bomba deluxe territory, which would be quite unexpected imo considering the Olympic games are in Tokyo. Prior M&S at the Olympics performances:

Heh...

Also Capcom has always been this bad when it came to rereleases but it seems exponentially more brazen now that they have some international success on higher end consoles.

The Americas:

GB=44.06
GBA=41.64
DS=59.93
3DS=26.54

GBA surely has to be the most US heavy Nintendo platform ever in terms of sales (outside the N64). It's crazy how much better it sold there than in all other regions (especially considering that it only sold 16.96 million in Japan!); and its absolutely bonkers that it came this close to beating the original GB in less than half the time! (and that's even with the DS succeeding it just three years into its lifespan!)

3DS and GBA are basically polar opposites in that regard!

GameCube is close as well:

GC: 11.70/21.74 = 53.8%
GBA: 41.64/81.51 = 51.1%
N64: ? (20.64M out of 32.93M in the Americas, not US only)

N64 is roughly ~18 million in the US so ~54.7%. The 18 is based on NPD estimates shared, other estimates from companies, and the fact it can't logically be 17 or 19 (the former requires too much Canada/Latin America sales, the latter doesn't give enough for them).

Edit: Nvm that last part.

That's not strange considering it came after the Wii u and the 3DS which both had high first party ratios and it's mid way through the gen so that ratio should decrease as Nintendo winds down it's number of notable releases. I expect it to finish below the 3DS but not substantially so.

It'll be a while though as mainline Pokemon and Animal Crossing add another 40 million to their tally.

The most shocking figure from Celine's post is the fact that Switch has the second highest first party ratio after Wii U.

Software ratios fall as hardware sales rise, so that's not shocking. Wii U also had literally fuck all 3rd party games after its first year, so that was inevitable.

Switch first-party software ratios will continue to fall over time as hardware sales rise.

That IS surprising though. Didn't realise that the GCN did so well in the US, relative to other regions. It really bombed in Europe hard huh?

Then again, it wasn't until the Wii/DS that Nintendo finally really cracked the EU market and made it a pillar that was on par with the US.

Not necessarily. The game will have a soft start but holidays + Olympic Games in Tokyo will give it nice legs.

Right, but the holidays thing is the same as for earlier games (many of those released in the same period (plus/minus two weeks or so) as this one - edit: on second look, that's not quite true, but plenty are outside the holiday period). Only the 2014 WiiU game would have a worse start than the Switch game if that 35k after 4 weeks were to become reality. Sure, the Olympics coming up in Tokyo will give a better boost than usual, but I would imagine some of that hype would carry over into the current sales as well - and even if it didn't, being the worst starting game in the franchise except for a WiiU Winter Olympics game is awful, regardless.

It would perform worse in its first four weeks than a late WiiU version of a 3DS game (2016 summer olympics, WiiU game did 54,794 units in four weeks), just to put it bluntly. I see no way to consider a 35k performance in 4 weeks than as an absolute bomb.

They're trying to blame Nintendo for their shitty policies (no physical editions or localization in Europe, high prices, poorly adapted ports, separating packs into individual releases at full price, no new offerings)? the nerve!

I mean considering the software released so far for the Switch, I'm not that surprised. With BotW, MK8D, SSBU, and Odyssey those are widely regarded as the definitive and best experiences in the series. 3/4 of them are also the best selling entries in their series. Third party software has had a number of successes but there hasnt been any major titles released that come close to the sales potential as on prior systems such as RE4, REmake, Kingdom Hearts, RE Revelations, Monster Hunter tri and 4, L5's ips in their prime, Dragon Quest 9, 10 and 11.

It is also excluding digital sales, I imagine if digital and Indie sales were accounted for the first party ratio would be notably lower.

With the pS4 already on its last legs in Japan, and the PS5 just starting to built an active base in 2021, you would think 2020 should bring some new switch ports or even exclusivew from Japanese devs, but I have a feeling devs were so pessimistic about the switch that they didn't start thinking about developing games but only after the first year and half and that was already too late.

most of those devs can barely put out a successful PS4 game. ps5 is gonna be out of the question for a lot of them. only the big names will do well, and it ain't gonna be because of japan

Capcom is back
And the last Switch adult masterpiece is the original Monster Hunter with no graphical enhancements for $60 :)
Ah, the famous Monster Hunter Switch.

I'm sure in the past it existed at some form, that rumor was very accurate to be ignored, but like many other games it likely didn't materialize in the end. Monster Hunter World success made that decision easier for Capcom, they are very close to Sony and follow different path from Nintendo.

From the moment Nintendo stopped helping them it was clear nothing big should be expected but as it looks, except the lack of high level support, they fail even with the simplest things on Switch.

I have heard from equally credibly sources for some other Switch games that never saw the light of day, and with more information behind them. If that game is one of the same I won't be surprised. It won't keep bothering us for much more, the supposed announcement keeps being pushed back event after event but E3 is the deadline. If nothing comes out until then, forget Monster Hunter on Nintendo systems for at least the next 5 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if they hit PS5 quicker and harder than PS4. There's less doubt about the overall health of consoles right now and more emphasis on worldwide success where sticking with PS4 for an extra 2-3 years won't really fly like it will in Japan.

It's funny because I still don't understand why expectations are so high. It's an improved version of the same game, I don't understand why people who already own the game would buy it again.
I feel the same, it doesnt have the appeal of being portable and its not on any other system but the same one it released on, its more or less a GOTY version

My theory (with matches pretty well with the info we have) :

- Capcom started to work on MH Switch in 2017 after the launch of MHXX on 3DS.
- MHXX was ported by that team (good way to get to know the hardware)
- Game was initially scheduled for a Q1 2020 release (as most big JP games are)
- Animal Crossing delay to March 2020 got Nintendo and Capcom to push the game to the following fiscal year (starting April 2020)

--> that line up well with Zell's info, the NEXT tease and the initial rumor.

Expected announcement : December (like Iceborne) or during the 1st Nintendo Direct of 2020 (which will be after Iceborne PC launch). TGA is too Western focused imo.

So Nintendo told Capcom that Animal Crossing Switch was getting delayed before their investors?

Because Capcom has said for a while that they had nothing planned for this fiscal year other than Iceborne.

Animal Crossing is also the only major Switch game of Q1 and one of the three major games of Q1 overall (the other two being FF7R and Doom)... And AC and Monster Hunter have almost nothing in common... And Nintendo is fine with releasing a bunch of games very close to each other for no reason as shown by... all of 2019.

I think that at the end of April, Nintendo knew that Animal Crossing was being delayed yes. Since it impacts their forecast, I am sure they would have talked to Capcom about it. It potentially represents millions in software sales missing.

I agree that it should be announced soon but I'm on the side of the argument that it exists and is set for next year. The NEXT tease, Zell leak and also a vague tease in their Q&A last year where they said they're making a custom entry for Switch makes me think there is too much smoke. It should be announced soon though and I think the pessimism is warranted based on what they've shown so far. We'll know soon enough.

I jus wished capcom would either firmly confirm or infirm MH on switch.
Just say it, "we don't intend to put mh on switch", so that we can move on...

The last thing Capcom would want for Monster Hunter is to go from an annual franchise to one that sells once every generation, even if that game sells upwards of 10m. I swear the only reason Iceborne was "delayed" on PC is to make it seem like they have a steadier revenue stream compared to the clusterfuck of having whole fiscal quarters with nothing of note to show. Having a second user base where they can bi-annualy sell a 4-5m Monster Hunter is nothing to laugh at and is a very attainable and realistic projection.

I completely agree though on the fact that if the next Monster Hunter game being announced isn't that it's then not happening and we will again have Capcom making questionable business decisions for yet once more.
