Yikes! I see a lot of people guessing significantly higher numbers for Xenoblade 2 than previously anticipated. Was the Direct that successful (didn't watch it due to spoilers)? Or are people being overly generous?

silpheed-mcd Here's my updated numbers for Xenoblade 2

First week: 111k
2017: 211k

I'm not sure that's actually necessary given I'm pretty certain thread Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius will notably exceed the lifetime revenue (and by far profitability) of Final Fantasy XV.

Dragon Quest of the Stars is probably their entry most along those lines at the moment (in terms of proximity to the traditional game style), though I could imagine something that takes it even further.
I mean with Dragon Quest being a bigger franchise than ff in japan,a freemium mobile mainline dq game could actually work

Let me join the predictions as well.

Super Mario Odyssey:

2017: 1,400,000

Xenoblade Chronicles 2:

FW: 150k

2017: 200k

But I understand you, yes. Mobile to console seems like a viable pathway (and in fact we've seen some of it on Switch already with the music games and Implosion).

Are you forgetting Monster Strike and Pazudora?
The Granblue on PS4 is still a big mystery as well, though we should hear more about it at the Granblue Fes late december.

Regarding Xenoblade 2 I'm still on the fence, the direct was only semi convincing, the character design isn't what I was looking for after first Xeno and Xeno X too but in the end I should be able to go past that if the game is good.
I would understand if many don't, especially as it's a hundred hour type of game.

It could, but they could also make a competent mobile game and name it Dragon Quest [anything] and it will make (more) money alongside with a console mainline DQ if they wanted to, so there's no need to put a mainline number on the mobile game.

I could totally see pikmin 4 being Co developed

BTW it seems that those three switch games aren't related to taiko and tales

Didn't think they were, but is there something specifically indicating that?

As for Pikmin 4, I dunno. Miyamoto said in 2015 that development on the game was almost done.

Looks like the Direct had a sizeable impact on Xenoblade 2 preorders on Amazon Japan:

Super Mario Odyssey also took back the 2nd spot above COD WWII and MHW.

Edit: Some more XB2 ranking increases around the world:

Spain: 4 (was 16) - +300%
France: *Not available atm*
Germany: 57 (was 126) - +121%

A mainline Pikmin is totally not outsourced. It's not a big game per se, and the team seems pretty well experienced after 3.

I don't understand whether "4" is referring to a Nintendo property or a Bamco one.

Square-Enix financial results for Q1+Q2/FY2018 are out: http://www.hd.square-enix.com/eng/news/pdf/18q2earnings.pdf

Every segment had strong performances, especially Digital Entertainment (DQXI + FFXII + NieR, ofc mobile and MMO as well).

Square mobile had been killing it this quarter. Less dead mobile game and more successful mobile game.

Some of the sub par title like Valkyria mobile also seems to regain momentum with smart collab with popular anime franchise like Berserk.

Lets see if S-E can continue their streak there.

I'm kind of surprised there's zero strategy discussion given they only do a presentation every other quarter, but I guess they've really had nothing to announce since the last report.

Well seeing their mobile effort is doing really with current strategies and they are currently still pushing for FFXV expansion, i dont see any change of strategies at least in short term as they are doing quite well.

Google Translate tells me that this tweet means that Dragonball Xenoverse 2 sold 400k units on the Switch worldwide, of which 300k before the end of September:

Can someone confirm?

"We're just going to continue our already successful strategy. Please be excited."

Guess Matsuda could have mentioned how he was right to be confident on Switch.

I thought Mochi took it down because he couldn't verify it. 400k would be really good considering it didn't really chart anywhere outside Japan. :S

Over 400K copies worldwide on Switch.

Third parties also racking dough on Switch lol. Guess this is the reason why Bamco is going deep into Switch.

Wonder what other third party game can come and sold quite a number after this. Probably Doom?

Also konami, time for a new Bishi Bashi on Switch. I bet that would sold millions!!!

That's actually a lot more than expected, with just 50K sold-through in Japan I think shipments to US, Europe and RotW were pretty substantial.

Holy shit, that's way more than I was expecting (around half that). Coupled with the Twitter campaign, DBFZ should be a shoe-in (emphasis on should be)

I think he was saying yesterday it sold 100k in October and today he mentioned it sold 300k in September (first half of fiscal year April to September?) and total unit sold 400k from release till present.
All the numbers are worldwide.

Wow, 400k for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Switch is really impressive! Combine that with Bandai Namco's positive look on Switch during its financial report meeting and here's hoping for more! Arc System Works is supporting the Switch themselves as well with BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, so I think DBFZ is a lock (albeit probably a late release).

Looks like the Direct had a sizeable impact on Xenoblade 2 preorders on Amazon Japan:

Super Mario Odyssey also took back the 2nd spot above COD WWII and MHW.

Edit: Some more XB2 ranking increases around the world:

UK: 34 (was 78) - +129%
US: 21 (was 53) - +152%
Spain: 4 (was 16) - +300%
France: *Not available atm*
Germany: 57 (was 126) - +121%
Canada: 11 (was 33) - +200%
Italy: 45 (was 223) - +395%

beware of the obvious when it comes to third party games on nintendo platforms :)
I hope you're right though.
Yea, though this would be the clearest example of money on the table. Stupid huge Twitter campaign and sales of a late port exceeding everyone's expectations (and really, who had hope for this after FighterZ's announcement?)

Since XV2 did well, maybe Shinobi Strikers is next? Has a lot of the same selling points

Something regarding Nintendo first party, Bamco and the number 4. And apparently not having to do with Smash (though I think that may be a red herring). Starting from here: https://www.resetera.com/threads/3-namco-exclusives-coming-to-switch.4587/page-2#post-657358
My guess would be Metroid Prime 4.

It's first party, it has the number 4, it's not Smash (Zhuge clearly implied it's not Smash, though he may indeed have been playing around), and it totally fits what Zhuge said - "I'm looking 4ward to the reactions" since if there is a Nintendo IP on which Bamco are working that will cause hysterical reactions, it will be Metroid...

The release schedule. Taiko and Tales have been announced already, and for a release foreseen within the end of march. These three games will be announced and released from SS/Summer 2018.
About Pikmin, it being almost done doens't imply nor specify by whom.

I don't understand whether "4" is referring to a Nintendo property or a Bamco one.

To a Nintendo property, from the "hint".
He cited a user saying "they will be first party games", implying to expect another game (different from the three "pre-announced") developed by Bamco on a N property
I doubt it's Metroid.
