Here are some JP Sonic sales figures.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be anything recorded for any of the Genesis games. Besides them, the highest selling game is Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast,

I guess the supply line improved a bit this week. Wonder if it'll continue to do so into next week.
Otherwise, a lot of decent holds, even on non-Nintendo fronts (though goddamn, Splatoon 2). Ark crossing 100k physical is kinda neat. Also gonna be interesting to look at graphs once they go up.

Considering how bad X1 sells there(100 last week), shouldn't the ltd number be an indicator of the OG X1 opening week? xD
edit: 20 something k is even lower what I remember for OG Xbox 1.

Yikes...
To give you an idea, Sonic Lost World on WiiU sold about 10,000 or so, and Generations sold 15k (on PS3). These are not unusual sales in the slightest.
Was there any marketing for Forces in Japan? Like Sega loves to cross promote Sonic with a bunch of other franchises (Love Live and the like), but this time the only thing they seemed to do was that gross Hooters stuff.

Yeah it's the second week. I think that now it has a decent chance of selling 400k with digital. I should have imagined that the game would sell well after the impressive numbers of Battlefield 1 last year. Actually, now i wonder about the performance of the next Battlefield game that will be released next year, because Battlefield is bigger than COD in Japan.
I'm thinking a large percent of Super Mario Odyssey sales are linked with a big ratio of SMO Bundles compared to Neon/Gray units.

Its probably the weather... and as we all know japan companies are very honorable and any time they feel the weather doesn't cooperate with shipments they purposefully hold back supply (bad joke but its early)
I haven't seen any TV ads, no Youtube ads, no train ads, no posters.

Considering most people will be buying their Switch bundled with Mario, the sales of other titles doesn't surprise me
Really had no idea about this. The franchise really needs some kind of shake-up
My question now is whether the Switch YTD will exceed the PS4 + 3DS YTD. Would be quite the achievement.
now that we have comparisons, 10k first week for forces isnt actually that bad, relatively speaking.
also, last time a game was bundled (spla2n), the software bump didnt happen until a bit later in relation to the new mass of units sold (if im remembering right). maybe the same is happening here for SMO and we will see more of a bumb in switch software in following weeks.

The other tracker have the Switch version above the PS4 version, so maybe is a tie.

It definitely does, but again, most of Sonic's fame came from the west.
To be honest, that kind of sums up SEGA in general. The Genesis was never as successful in its home country as it was in western territories, where it managed to shine thanks to SEGA of America's excellent marketing strategies. If it wasn't for that, the Genesis would of probably just been some weirdo niche console like the TurboGraffix or something, just like the Master System before it.

It'll be very interesting to see if the Switch follows that 3DS line, though it will likely lag behind a bit. Still, winding up ahead of the Wii and DS after 9 months would be incredible.
Obviously it all depends on stock and supply.
Switch is doing really well this week, the Odyssey power is real. I wonder how long before the number goes back to baseline.
