It's not irrelevant at all, I'm not even sure why you said this. I'm talking about software built for joy cons and portable local multiplayer, neither of those require a tv and both are very large selling points for the system

So you're suggesting that not docked mode, not Ring Fit, but tabletop mode is the primary reason why the standard Switch is substantially outselling the Lite? This is a serious question because I want to be on the same page btw.

I've seen that data and it's still used and the last update was a while ago. Yes but Smash brothers does the other biggest game on the system and the game one of the games most suited towards that style of play. That popular namco fishing game required you to use the joy cons (before they updated it) and as can be seen a again and again a number of the break out new IP hits within Japan actually use the Joy con. Do you they all only play those games at home on their TV and that's it?

Even awhile ago, it's still the only hard data we have other than 'have seen this'.

Lot of the games you named can be played without Joy Cons and most of heavy hitting games in Japan don't used them either. As for Smash, this is the same country who ate up Smash for the 3DS compared to the rest of the world.

I'm stating it's one of the reasons, mainly the capability to use the joycons regardless where you use it. Software like Ring fit link into this it's not something that can be considered separate since you need joycons to be play the game amongst many others.

The fishing game was updated afterwards, Labo can't, Ring fit can't, 1-2 switch I'm not sure about, Mario party you need for multiplayer etc. this isn't a small number of unpopular titles we're talking about.

Pokémon Sword/Shield will easy have the biggest initial shipments of any Switch game so far, that had to be expected even by just watching the numbers of the most recent Pokémon games.

Sold through is what really matter, if you watch Sun/Moon it only shipped 1.5 million after the first quarter because it was massively overshipped.

Likely higher, but remember that this is the second go around of P5 on the PS4, whereas Golden was the first for the Vita. Not exactly directly comparable.

Squeezing another 220k retail copies of the RPG on the same system is already nuts.

01./00. [PSV] Persona 4 Golden <RPG> (Atlus) {2012.06.14} (¥7.329) - 152.499 / NEW
05./01. [PSV] Persona 4 Golden <RPG> (Atlus) {2012.06.14} (¥7.329) - 18.069 / 170.568 (-88%)
13./05. [PSV] Persona 4 Golden <RPG> (Atlus) {2012.06.14} (¥7.329) - 12.261 / 182.829 (-32%)
Oh wow. So mostly a slight difference overall.

Makes me wonder what people's expectations were given some of the reactions.

To be honest, it'll be hard to top Sun/Moon's massive initial shipment. I wouldn't be surprised if SWSH's first quarter was lower, but with much better legs in the following updates.

Hmm, so it seems we agree more on this than I thought then

Oh but i agree there, i said biggest Switch launch not biggest Pokémon game, basically it should easy ship more than Smash Ultimate (12.08m first month)

I don't think that S/M was that much overshipped. However software numbers on 3DS in 2017 were meh and US/UM got announced at the begining of June.

Ultra Sun/Moon was around 1000 pts right? Not bad at all for Sword/Shield.
Comparisons between system is always tricky.

Usually the "rule" for Switch games is 1 preorder point translates to 2 first week sales which translates to 2000 units sales in Japan.

However, I can't stress enough that it is not a reliable method at all. At least, comparing it to Let's Go (same franchise, same system, one year apart) preorder points should give a picture of the first week sales.

Holy shit. I just looked at the sales...
The game apparently sold 13 million in 2016, which mean it wasn't even overshipped... Dude i didn't realized legs REALLY crushed that much lmao.

Yep :p

The initial shipment WW was 10m so I figured that almost every countries needed a second shipment (and overshipment is rare in this case).

Switch took all the mindshare and 3DS software sales just collapsed. Rumors of Pokemon Stars coming to Switch hurt the games even more so.

*Digital sales not included
**Titles that re-entered the Top 30 had their cumulative difference in LTD added to that week
***I forgot Super Mario Party sales in Week 44, so they are included in Week 45

Edit: Also noticed my Nippon Columbia change in Week 45 is off, but I'm too lazy to swap it out at this point.

Wow, almost 100k Switch consoles were sold last week according to Dengeki. Famitsus calculation could be too low.

And the difference in sales is just because of the OG model, 63k according to Dengeki vs. 54k according to Famitsu.

No talk about the recent Xbox pickups? They're all old games (FFXIV, KH1.5/2.5/2.8, Yakuza 0/K1/K2) but pretty notable releases all the same. Also all stuff that should reasonably be headed to Switch too but apparently isn't.

The new Fortnite bundle on Switch outselling PS4 6:1 is a surprise. I wonder if this is why Netease prioritized the platform for Knives Out first even though the PS4 version was announced over a year ago now? Bluehole should hurry up with PUBG or let Tencent port their mobile version.

Yakuza makes a lot more sense considering two of them are remakes originally made for PS4 but the KH compilation is really a weird omission.

Nagoshi seems to still hold a grudge against Nintendo with Yakuza.

KH remasters feel like a matter of time thing, though the fact it wasn't announced for switch after the xbox event is quite telling

Considering they are specifically for Gamepass as well I think Microsoft moneyhatted them. The Wii U Yakuza release was also clearly a moneyhat.

The fact that they require moneyhats is pretty ridiculous though, and it's now clear that despite what some posters would have you think Sony doesn't have any stake in those releases.(that should have been obvious after the FFs went multiplat tbh)
