I'm looking forward to everyone in this thread putting out their monster hunter forecast for the switch.

I think this is going to move a lot of hardware as well.

My prediction is the usual with Switch AAA games: high expectations, retail sales being weaponized as underperforming for some cheap console war, PR including digital coming a few days later with monster numbers.

Do you really think it would go over well to sell a 40$ collection as games separately? people already complain when there's the slightest price difference between console versions of a game

of course file size is an issue, it has always been one for ports of Switch titles

Which is why next year's Call of Duty will come on Switch as a cloud game: Activision's stinginess with additional resources + filesize issues solved with one move. Best version of the game by default!

Honestly, I can see Activision being among the publishers / developers jumping on the Switch cloud train

The de facto Japanese support for PS5 is on the way from every small and big developer in the country, give it time.

If every developer supports the ps5 there will still be no growth for sony, rather decline for every non-nintendo ip.

The hardware itself is just undesirable for the most part.

COMG! preorders chart, Week 46 2020:
Each point represents one preorder at this retailer. It is a relatively small retailer located in one region so be careful when you extrapolate, especially regarding Otaku games (overrepresented) and family games (underrepresented).

1. Momotaro Dentetsu - 104 pts (+18 pts)
2. Monster Hunter Rise - 72 pts (+7 pts)
3. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - 56 pts (+15 pts)
4. Atelier Ryza 2 (PS4) - 29 pts (-1 pt)
5. Atelier Ryza 2 (NSW) - 27 pts (+0 pt)
6. Atelier Ryza 2 Collector's Edition (NSW) - 15 pts (+0 pt)
7. Cyberpunk 2077 – 14 pts (+1 pt)
8. Derby Stallion - 12 pts (+4 pts)
9. Monster Hunter Rise Double Pack - 11 pts (+2 pts)
10. Zoid Wild: Infinity Blast Collector's Edition - 7 pts (+0 pt)
11. Atelier Ryza 2 Collector's Edition (PS4) - 7 pts (+2 pts)
12. Aleste Collection Collector's Edition (PS4) - 6 pts (+0 pt)
13. Nier Replicant sqrt(1.5) - 6 pts (RE)
14. Aleste Collection Collector's Edition (NSW) - 5 pts (+0 pt)
15. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury - 5 pts (+0 pt)
16. Dragon Quest XI S (PS4) - 5 pts (RE)
17. Story of Season Ranch of Olive Town - 4 pts (NEW)
18. Densha de Go!! Hashirou Yamanote Line (PS4) - 4 pts (NEW)
19. RIDE 4 - 4 pts (NEW)
20. Rune Factory 5 Collector's Edition - 3 pts (NEW)

Momotaro being underrepresented in preorders could lead to a 250k+ opening. If that doesn't wake up Harada I don't know what will.

Edit: It might even challenge DQXI S for biggest tird party launch on Switch.

Just split them up then.

KH HD 1.5 ReMIX (PS3) 22.2GB
KH HD 2.5 ReMIX (PS3) 20.2GB
KH HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (PS4) 29.63GB
KH HD 1.5 + 2.5 HD ReMIX (PS4) 45.24GB

And for comparison:

FFX/X-2 HD Remaster (PS3) 22.89GB
FFX/X-2 HD Remaster (PS4) 32.11GB
FFXII: The Zodiac Age (PS4) 40.68GB
FF Type-0 HD (PS4) 26.8GB

Switch:

FFX/X-2 HD 14GB
FFXII: The Zodiac Age 12.7GB

Is the former right? Seems way too small. It's from Nintendo's site.

Rhythm games are inherently a niche genre. Similar to Musou games and Persona. I was being a little melodramatic with my comment but I do sincerely believe that Sony plays a role in preventing some third party titles from being released on Nintendo platforms.
Yeah, its true that those games are smaller sellers compared to some of the mainline numbered games, indeed.

Fair enough :) About the other titles, dont you think that is just due to some partnership? Which can happen the other way around as well (then i'm more generally speaking, not just about Square Enix. Games that comes to Nintendo platforms, but not to Playstation). If thats what you mean, i agree that this is a possiblity, for sure.

I thought you first meant more in the direction of not wanting to upset a platform holder in case that it would affect future deals/partnership, so i was thinking a bit more in that direction in my previous post :) And i'm not sure if Square Enix thinks too much about possibly upsetting a partner like Sony. They have done some things that could have upset Sony, like Final Fantasy 13 being multiplatform with Xbox 360, and supporting the 3DS quite a bit more compared to the Vita (which all makes business sense, in my opinion), but they still seem to have a good relationship with all the platform holders :) At least i get the impression that they are.

I'll eat my hat when a mainline FF game launches on a Nintendo platform alongside a Sony platform.
Hehe, Microsoft did manage to get FF13 and FF15 for Xbox on the same day, so its not impossible :) But that said, yeah, its probably a slim chance for that happening anytime soon, i agree, mostly due to Square Enix seems to have a stronger partnership with Sony here (FF7 Remake is still only for PS4, and FF16 will be exclusive for PS5 for a while), and maybe a bit due to the technical gap (the game might be able to scale though).

It looks like SE isn't pushing XVI's visuals as hard as you'd expect from a mainline FF. If the Switch gets new hardware in the next 12-18 months that's the best chance they'll have at a mainline FF game in decades. I believe it's PS5 exclusivity is only 6 months.

I think it was meant to be cross gen but even if Nintendo brought out Switch 2.0 with state of the art hardware for a hybrid it would still not come to the system because the install base would be starting at zero again.

Possibility Square porting XVI only to a potential Switch Pro ignoring older models is smaller than developing a new Final Fantasy exclusively for Switch.

Thanks! :) Odd that the website page differed. Oh well.
Yeah, i see it on Nintendo's website now. It says "Game File Size: 14GB", but in the description of the game it says " Full game installation size: 26.9GB". Maybe they 14GB is referring to the cart version, but i'm not sure :) Or perhaps the 14GB is referring to FFX alone (while 26.9GB is for FFX + FFX-2 combined).

What do you mean? I don't think there is a comparable - what other high profile 3rd party exclusive is on the Switch?

That leaked Stories 2 design doc has got me hyped. It looks so good! Also Capcom's expecting around 450k sales in Japan for it.

Rise and Stories 2 also getting PC releases is great news too.

MH Rise on PC puts 10M+ easily in the cards. MHW was huge on PC, doesn't make sense to abandon that audience.

Now I wonder if the PC leak will affect the Western sales on Switch. I'm sure some people will now decide to wait.

Probably less than 1% of actual consumers. We live in a bubble in this part of the internet where we are more aware of small minute details that the average consumer won't know or care about.

I'm wondering the same thing, but if that schedule chart is to be believed, then it will be a 7 month delay similar to MHW. So presumably similar effect as MHW PC on MHW Console?

If MHR has PC then i'm confident it outsells MHW.
Yeah, hopefully they do crossplay. Would be silly not to as the game isn't exactly a competitive title.

Idk, if they implement crossplay my interest will be up from "might pick up after I burn out on World" to "absolute must buy"

My wife will game on Switch but not PC. With crossplay I wouldn't hesitate to grab a PC copy and a Switch copy.

Yes there will be double dippers but IMO the PC version leak will definitely hurt any potential explosion of MHR Switch sales in the West. In Japan it should overall not affect things, but im parts of Asia it will as well.

I think Rise getting a PC release down the line was always on the cards - dont think its gonna effect the Switch performance all that much all things considered. It being leaked early doent help but the people that wanna play MH Rise early and on Switch are still gonna show up.
