MHW had very high Famitsu digital estimates. Of course those aren't sacred, but it's a nice indication. Put those on top of ~2M retail sales and the confirmed fact that the game did 4M in Japan + Asia, it's safe to say that MHW is a success in Asia as well (which was a bigger worry of mine than its success in the west).

Looking at Famitsu hw sles simply confirm that so far the 2018 Switch performance hasen't been as hot as many would have thought last year; even if Smash sales will drive a lot of HW units, it will be just slightly up YoY at best. It's performing well, but not at the same level that we imagined last year, with all the supply issues it faced

Looks like Ninjala has been stealth-delayed to 2019 (previously slated for Spring release).

The interesting thing is that the Nintendo Topics announcement post for the game has already had the previous trailer replaced by the new one... but the post itself hasn't.

https://topics.nintendo.co.jp/c/article/0f43c123-6879-11e8-b9c0-063b7ac45a6d.html
This is probably the clearest look at the gameplay yet. Weird how they had this playable at PAX but we barely know about the game.

Cool to see it's 60fps though. I was actually worried it would be 30

Isn't that just the same Ninjala trailer from E3?

and it was stealth delayed? Thought it was always 2019

Are there Switch shortages? Or was demand down?

Honestly? Switch HW did pretty alright all things considered. People are holding back for Smash. That's what I would do, at least

Digital was huge so it's already around there.

Not a single game made a comeback in the top 50 this week thanks to new christmas releases.

When Digital sales will be included on media create?
Physical sales on some cases are only half of the story. Comparatives with games launched years ago are unfair.
The NPD already include them (exception to Nintendo and Bethesda games) and on 2019 UK will include too.

Digital isn't as big in Japan as it is in the west. I don't think they'll report digital considering they don't get these numbers directly from Nintendo or Sony.
Which means the question is when Nintendo and Sony will start sharing them with Media Create/Famitsu/Dengeki. Digital has been on a rise, even in Japan, and while percentages are still much lower than in the west, I would say they are (most likely) significant enough that we should want them added to the weekly charts.

I didn't say I don't want them, I just don't think it's "half the story" (even more for Nintendo). Also, aren't MC/Famitsu/Dengeki numbers from retailers? I don't think Nintendo or Sony report stuff besides milestones. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Labo seems to have not really achieve Nintendo's goal of expanding the audience significantly, but 5 million new sales in audition to sales to existing userbase??

That's insane. Sorry.
I said could of been that high. Not that it was. Personally I think it was higher than most people think. Nintendo talked consistently at the beginning of the fiscal year how Labo was going to be a driver for new audience. I don't think that they would make public statements like that if they only expected for it to sell to a million new customers.

[3DS] Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth # <RPG> (Atlus) {2014.06.05 }(¥6.980) - 188.000 / 268.000
[3DS] Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth <RPG> (Atlus) {2018.11.29} (¥6.980) - 76.000 / ***.*** <60%>

60% sell-through for Q2. Atlus rushed the release date but from the moment they decided to go with only 3DS they should release it earlier, now it's too late.

There's a difference between 1 million and 5 million. And even the latter is quite high for hardware driven by a single game.

For digital 20-30% of total sales seems to be the upper limit for notable games that target a core audience MH World might be slightly above that but it is thanks to retail shortage more than anything else, we still have games more targetted towards all audiences that are below 10% and the usual range is rather around 10-20%

The day where digital will tell half of the story in Japan is nowhere in sight for now unless a drastic paradigm shift happen in the video game market after the launch of a new generation of hardware (and that doesn't look like it will be the next one)

On an unrelated note Persona Q sold 53k the 4 weeks after launch where it started 186k 4 years ago, if we do some maths with the same ratio (assuming worse legs because of dying instal bass is counter balanced by christmas) that would give... 22k sales for PQ2 the next 4 weeks.

So for Prediction league a range of 90-100k for PQ2 should be a safe estimate.

Thanks for this, Zsaberlink, that's some important context I didn't have. It shows that numbers like Switch did this week are normal for a market leader, so there should still be plenty of room to go high during the coming weeks.
Sure np. That's what I realized after compiling this and thought I'd share. Also I'm surprised no one else reacted given on the doom & gloom around here.

Let me expand. I didn't mean for people to latch onto the 5 million. At an absolute max Nintendo would never expect more than 5 million in hardware to be driven by Labo. First because they already sold 15 million the year before so as a baseline they probably went in expecting they could reach that pretty easily. Secondly it would be way too much to bet more than 25% of their hardware sales on Labo (too many eggs in one basket).

I do think it's likely they thought it could drive several million in sales (2-3). Or it could have been nothing. I just think off Nintendo's original statements they felt it was an important product to bring new people to the switch environment.

Myself and other have been saying this for weeks. NSO is a problem for Spatoon and definitely cut its legs. I wonder if it was worth it for Nintendo.
Splatoon is the second best selling game of the year despite not releasing this year.
Still in the top 10 and up week over week.

But, yeah, Nintendo online slowed things down and support ending soon mixed with smash will also probably slow things down more.
Might be out of the top 20 late next year
which is when you release Splatoon 3 in summer 2020

Amazon had again big supply, this time for Mario Party Joy-Con Set.

Standard Edition was sold out almost immediately after pre-orders started, Amazon LE lasted for long time.

I've been telling since April last year that splatoon 3 was probably a 2020 game, and I stand by that.
The last chance for Splatoon 2 would be the announcement of a new meaty dlc. It won't happen, so I guess they have just been keeping new ideas for the next episode, which probably started development in the first half of 2018. I hope they'll keep the feel of the octo expansion.

I also said that Mario kart 9, and an X2 based switch pro would be released around that time. I also stand by that.

Digital was huge so it's already around there.

Not a single game made a comeback in the top 50 this week thanks to new christmas releases.
We know MHW is 4m plus in Japan + Asia. Fair to say its about 3m in Japan and 1m+ in Asia?

Interesting switch hardware numbers.
Dengeki 105k
Famitsu 107k
Media create 120k

I wonder will they be more aligned next week.

Super Mario Party could come close to 1m already from this quarter. Shipments at retailers topped half million last week.

Outselling Mario Party 8 is in the realm of possibility.

I don't think we'll have a Splatoon 3 or a Mario Kart 9 on Switch. But I think we'll have more DLC for these games, since 2019.

Weekly retailer hints vol.2

Nothing important comes out this week except Smash. Just Cause 4 the only kinda notable release but looking at today's opening it's heading for very low numbers. If PS4 doesn't move some software, top 10 will be almost entirely Switch titles.

PlayStation Classic came out at Monday and, like west, hype is a little over zero. Legs after initial push are very questionable.

Myself and other have been saying this for weeks. NSO is a problem for Spatoon and definitely cut its legs. I wonder if it was worth it for Nintendo.
If kids couldnt convince their parents to spend 20 dollars weeks later, remember that splatoon 2 isn't the only online game that exists, then nothing ever real, I feel the NSO thing being pushed here is being exaggerrated and people have already provided accurate data for when splatoon 2 started slowing down and it doesnt really have to do with NSO

Chris finally got a avatar.
Goodbye, "C".

Probably hasn't had a massive effect, but hasn't helped.
If holiday sales are good and smash moves a lot of NSO subscriptions, maybe things will pick up

Of noting that on Famitsu, Switch LTD already passed Vita LTD Sales... xD... PS4 LTD at this rate will be caught in mid-January unless Switch Christmas sales set a record... xD

If there was a dlc planned, they would have kept the game alive by continuing to update it in 2019. They won't (except minor balance updates).
As Nintendo is not going to let such a juicy IP dive into irrelevancy, one can imagine that they are already at work on what to bring next. It could be spin-off, or another entry. I'm voting for both.

You're right, I have forgot this information, sorry. I still think a Splatoon 3 on Switch would be a mistake, but we'll see if Nintendo will do that.

I would have also preferred a continuous support as well. That being said, Splatoon 2 was similar to the first at core. If they believe that they can bring enough new content and a technical improvement significant enough to justify a splatoon 3, I'm ok with this. That's why I also believe that they'll release a switch pro more or less at the same time.

I kinda think there will be a rather large change in design for Splatoon 3. it'll keep the same format, but there's probably gonna be some different kind of hook. maybe a proper live hub and exploratory elements? PvE? something of that nature
