If nothing is announced by tomorrow we must start considering the possibility that Sony will return to the normality of Japan and abandon last year's strategy of e extended holidays campaign with the price cut being maintained until the end of January.

It would make sense. December is dominated by Switch then Sony puts it's effort in January with the older crowd spending their New Year's money on Yakuza 7, Kakarot and ReMind.

I think that the sales of MM2 are quite fine. Including digital sales, it will end up between 1,5 and 2 Mio. units in Japan LTD, worldwide somewhere between 8 and 10 Mio., I think this is pretty good for an editor game.

Personally, i am more disappointed about the sales of Zelda LA in Japan. In contrast to its western sales, LA is quite underperforming in Japan I guess.

Puzzle & Dragons Gold confirmed as digital-only, out on January 15th. 1500 Yen. Junior-high peeps who try out the game at the World Hobby Fair will get a free download code it seems.

Wow, I guess they scaled back, because it looked like they were going to do another big retail game. Not sure whether this is better, but it has been clear that Gold would never become a new PazuDora Z, and most likely also sell worse than X.

I feel Japan is probably over Classic style Zelda games (that and from what i can telll , arent sales for remakes in japan always softer than in the west?)

I wonder when Pokemon will drop from the #1 spot. Probably not this year, almost surely for Kakarot's and Yakuza's launch ?

So 9 weeks ?

I know this is really random, but is anyone else surprised there hasn't been a Evangelion game in a while?

There are 32 billion mobile collaborations and some proper Eva mobile stuff already out and some project announced for next year.

I don't think Eva will ever get a proper console game unless some publisher knocks at khara's door with a huge pile of money for the licensing, I remember reading an interview to Hideaki Anno where he said he doesn't care about videogames as a medium, they only interest him for the tech behind him (3DCG, modeling, animations...).

YW4++ PS4 performance doesn't inspire confidence for Inazuma Eleven.

YW4++ was probably overshipped so without legs, it is a big bomb.

The fact that the second week of SD Gundam was bigger than YW4++ at Tsutaya is not a great sign for the latter, considering how frontloaded those games are. The previous entry had a 85% drop on PSV and a 87% drop on PS4.

These will be the ranges for previous week.

Switch - 200-250k
PS4 - 10-15k
Pokemon - 200-250k

Likely no new release topped 20k, Gundam and 13 Sentinels with 80% second week drop, many Switch evergreens with big rise.

"There are three new games in the Taiwanese ranking. The first and second positions were won by SD Gundam G Generation for Switch and PS4 but the position is the opposite of Japan. Its momentum is quite vigorous, that it even squeezed Pokemon Sword / Shield to the third place. Switch version of Overcooked 1+2, which is just a compilation debuted 4th, and is very suitable for families. Mario & Sonic Tokyo 2020 that has been selling well since its launch, remains at the bottom of the list.

The Korean ranking doesn't have any new entry and just one game is different from last week. Pokemon Sword / Shield is still the champion, and Ring Fit Adventure is second for three consecutive weeks. Mario Kart 8 DX that has been in the market for two years, has increased from 5th to 3rd position this week. Red Dead Redemption 2 that was launched one year ago suddenly appeared on the list, presumably due to local promotions / discounts. Luigi's Mansion 3 that has been listed continuously since launch, fell to the 5th position but still in the ranking."

**Overcooked 2 is listed as PS4 version in the ranking, but in the comment is referred as a Switch game aimed to family users.
Probably the listing is a mistake.

Curious if Imran's source at Nintendo (of America?) is the same one that told him they had to choose between DQ7R and Bravely Default for localization?

So are we expecting RE3 to perform similarly to RE2 or follow the pattern the originals set in the 90s and be down? Interestingly they released a year apart then too.

Edit: also on a side note, how strong has PS4's H1 lineup become? Yakuza in January, Persona in February, Final Fantasy in March and Resident Evil in April. That's insane.

It's a decent line-up that probably won't do much to entice anyone new to buy the system. Final Fantasy will have some sway, but it won't have the same effect as Monster Hunter World did for Q1 2018 or anything.

It will at least have software in the charts though.

Yeah it won't move the needle for hardware unless Sony goes bundle crazy and also drops the price. None of the software will have legs either. But it's a good start to a year will likely also see Tales, Elden Ring and DQM. Japanese publishers are always slow to react but they clearly have a different opinion of the PS4 than the buying public.

It kind of feels like it's being sent to die. Why wasn't it at TGS or ... Anything with a sizable audience? Emergency rehaul?

SD Gundam switch ranking higher than PS4 is interesting to say the least.

Someone should make a chalkboard for:

3rd Party Games shouldn't come to the Switch because:
Switch might flop after the WiiU
PS4 has higher install base
3rd parties were caught off guard
Mobile is a more secure business model
Switch owners only buy kids games
Test games need to do well first
Switch will get the 3DS version of DQXI, the 3D version is beyond the hardware
RPGs sell better on Sony systems
PS4 sells better in the West
Asia is more interested in games on PS4
Used Market Legs

PS5 is right around the corner, it's too late.
3rd parties are too small to support multiple platforms

Guessing no PS4 deal this year like last years. Guess they decided it wasn't worth doing again.

'they need to save all of those monies for the PS5 release, it doesn't pay for itself ya know.

I hope that Mario & Sonic managers to be above 150k before the end of the year but it feels like it's unlikely it will happen

Gotta be that or last years deal didn't pan out as expected. What are the bundles Sony is doing for the holiday period there? Or am I right in assume they aren't doing anything?

Mario & Sonic did quite worse then I thought it would. Was thinking that optimistically it could close out the year at 200,000 and go on to sell moderately well. Then explode when the olympics happens next year. Hopefully there is a spike then

Based on what I read on Era, it's "Switch owners are entitled and they don't deserve any games".

Haven't seen this one here yet (but maybe I read over it), but TOCS3 Switch for March 19th 2020:

Any bets on its performance FW? I'm thinking 10k.
Is It against animal crossing releasing also in March?
Anyway hopefully It does good but the problem with unannounced ports Is that most fans have already bought the game on the first system the game release. Especially falcom fans since they know the company follows Sony consoles from a while.
Maybe some Nintendo fans will buy It since switch Is a good platform for jrpg fans.

150k by the end of the year seems realistic. It might see big sales in Weeks 50, 51 and 52.

It sold 10k in Week 48 totalling 62k units. If it goes like 15k (Week 48) -> 25k (Week 50) -> 20k (Week 51) -> 25k (Week 52) it'll be there. But it might go even higher during holidays as it might be seen as the family game to go by Switch owners.

Arguably Cold Steel lost a fair amount of sales from going PS4 only and skipping handhelds where the biggest part of their sales were (probably something in the 50-80k range), it's also a bigger IP than Ys but will release a bit later (Ys VIII NSW was 2 years after Vita release, 1 year after PS4, CSIII will be 2 1/2 year after PS4).
If the CS CSII players skipped the sequels on PS4 it's likely most of them moved on already and probably won't look back.

All in all it should still have bigger potential than Ys VIII, there's a bit of untapped potential so maybe 12-15k FW is doable.

I don't think I need to explain what should have been done to maximize the sales potential of a NSW SKU.
