I looked up Claytechworks and they are the developer of Fairy Effect
They're likely what became of the original Bravely team after Silicon Studio decided to get out of gamedev and sold their games unit to Creek and River. Claytechworks actually lists C&R as their lone major shareholder and they were established in 2018.

I'm guessing them calling it BD2 means they will push it harder than they did Bravely Second, which was the big complaint at the time.
SE was obsessed with only AAA and mobile at that period.

[3DS] Bravely Default - 1.400.000
[3DS] Bravely Second: End Layer - 700.000

The series before the release had 3.8 shipments so the new game added another 200000 to that, which is pretty good.
Now the word shipments is kinda weird tbh but I still think it's copies sold.

I mean if the PR says shipments, it's shipped (+ maybe digital day 1?) not sold at retail.

I wonder how it's doing sales wise.

Ahh that would make sense and explain why the trailers just gave a generic Bravely Default credit.

200k is honestly a smaller shipment than I was expecting, though that's probably more on me. Now we need to see sellthrough.

Better than V though lol.

The game was definitely pushed a lot by Sega.
Lots of colabs with shops, ads e.t.c.

Personally of by next week it somehow reaches 200000 sellthrough I will be verry happy.
Now if sellthough is more like 170000-180000 it's still ok for the series but not as exciting.

Also the franchise in general is a multimedia franchise. It's not just the games that sell, there are many other goods
that fans will buy.Accessories, blu rays, concert tickets, stage play tickets, music tracks.
That's why it's an important franchise to Sega :)

On another note, Samurai Shodown is now out on Switch, and the port was by Safari Games who also did Super Dragon Balls World Mission on Switch.

I think it can do it. Presumably the shipment could be between 200-300k so it's definitely possible for it to reclaim it's old luster. I think the hype is there.

Will the blog post first day sell through for it? Although lately that metric has been a bit poor with some games.

200k is a good number for Sakura Taisen imo.
The series has never done that big for its mainline games' sales and we also have to take into account shrinking Japanese market.

Hm I could believe there is a correlation between decreasing Splatoon 2 sales and the introduction of Nintendo Switch Online if there is enough evidence to support this correlation, but this belief comes from my own bias. However I cannot believe there is a causation. There's already a few major confounds that are pretty much impossible to eliminate (and no, no amount of personal bias, no matter how heavy, can eliminate them).

I also would not call Sony 'stupid' for focusing on the future success of Playstation business instead of pushing for, in my opinion, a metric that's less important for profits than it is for console warring.

First Day Sell-through {2019.12.12}

[PS4] New Sakura Taisen # <ACT> (Sega) (¥8.800) - 50%

If 200k is shipment + digital first day, FW retail number should be in the ~100k range, give or take 20k.
Also this is how Sakura Taisen V opened 14 years ago

M-C
1. Sakura Taisen V (Sega, PS2): 111.771

Famitsu
1. Sakura Taisen V (Sega, PS2): 96.282

This is kind of the expected number imo, Sega Saturn sales numbers were never going to come back, something a bit up from STV (150k) and not too far from STIII (300k) is how most mid-range JRPG should hope to reach on PS4, now Sega probably hopes western sales will skyrocket (not a hard thing to achieve) because otherwise it's not realy worth it.

It's pretty much impossible for there to not be growth in the west, but it not having a dub limits it a bit.

Bravely Default 2 is going to be an interesting release sales wise. Octopath Traveler did pretty good and Bravely has the same kind of style. It could show some real growth compared to Bravely Default and also surpass Octopath Traveler if it's ambitious enough.

Well yes, it's pretty obvious, releasing a PS2 in 2010 in the USA was never going to make big numbers and iirc the Wii SKU didn't even outsold it (anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)
The EMEA release was Wii only and on a budget price (40€) and despite that price quickly went down to 20 so yeah...
No hard number but it had to be very low.

January 30th for next Nintendo financials. Lots of updates coming.

Halo Picross exclusively for Nintendo Switch

We've had this, so this wouldn't surprise me anymore:

That title is as close as we're going to get for Squeenix admitting they royally messed up with Bravely Second.

Bravely II is releasing next year. If Square wanted to devote resources for remaking the first two it would be done by now.

Yeah, would've have been announced at the same time too, just like Bayo 1 & 2 were announced alongside 3. Unless they're saving it for the inevitable January Direct, which would be the last possible place to announce them.

Honestly think it could happen, if only because I can totally see Squeenix jumping on the occasion to later port them to PC

Bayonetta is published by Nintendo---a different company. Not all companies follow the same strategy and not all companies follow the same strategy for all of their games/franchises.

E.g., Square Enix announced Dragon Quest IV, V and VI remakes a year after Dragon Quest IX announcement. Two of them came before the mainline entry and VI came after. Dragon Quest portings on PS4 and 3DS were also announced after XI announcement.

If Bravely Default II is a Q3 game, Square Enix might well be drop a collection during Summer. They don't need much anticipation to announce and release it.

BDII is a sequel tho. it's not an iteration like DQ games

I wouldn't be surprised by a later announcement for Bravely Default + Bravely Second with an earlier release. Something similar happened with Dragon Quest Builder: SE first announced the sequel; then they revealed the original was coming to Switch in the September 2017 Direct.

100k 1st week is probably the minimum for Shin Sakura Taisen to be considered any sort of success so hopefully it's done that (plus much more) going by the first day sellthrough and implied shipment.

Other relevant 1st weeks for comparison (Famistu):

Sakura Taisen (SS) 205,270
Sakura Taisen 2 (SS) 355,270
Sakura Taisen GB (GB) 81,381
Sakura Taisen 3 (DC) 216,306
Sakura Taisen GB2 (GBC) 11,494
Sakura Taisen 4 (DC) 207,462
Sakura Taisen [Remake] (PS2) 176,797
Sakura Taisen V Episode 0 (PS2) 55,282
Sakura Taisen V (PS2) 96,282
Dramatic Dungeon Sakura Taisen (DS) 35,607

Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) 77,694
Valkyria Chronicles II (PSP) 101,282
Valkyria Chronicles III (PSP) 108,895
Valkyria Revolution (PSV+PS4) 60,909
Valkyria Chronicles 4 (PS4) 46,852

Wait, why is Valkyria Chronicles a relevant comparison.

Valkyria Chronicles is an SRPG, Sakura Wars 2019 is a Dynasty Warriors dating sim.

Same creative team at Sega and Valkyria was billed as sort of a spiritual successor to ST early on.

I just decided to include all the RPGs from both series regardless of subgenre. The only other ARPGs up there are STVE0 and VRev though.

I wonder if Bravely's simplistic 3D graphics will be less appealing than Octopath's pixel art

I hope there's some heavy rendering and shading tricks smeared over it all to obfuscate those ugly models and flat backgrounds. That's what helped the 3DS games look so great, they sort of looked like what you picture PS1 JRPGs to look like in your head, and also what pulled Octopath's look together.

I love Team Asano but I have to say this is probably their least visually appealing title since way back with FFIII/IV DS. I hope it's just early.

They didn't really show that much in the trailer, so maybe it's a late 2020 game and they still have almost a year to tighten the visuals
