About the Smash/Splatoon 2 race: I wouldn't discount more things to come around Splatoon 2 this year after the unexpected weapons update announced last month, the free demo, and "more surprises". I'm in the camp of "Splatoon 3 will come later than sooner" and Nintendo doing a 180° regarding its support (it was supposed to be nothing in 2019) is a good sign in my book. With an hardware refresh coming this year presumably, I'm sure they want to be ready to tap into the influx of new comers.

Time for Dengeki to take their crown.

Shipment was looking like this: 273k for the Switch version and around 266k for the PS4 version.
So about 39k on shelves for the Switch version and 54k for the PS4 version.
That figure doesn't seem like an insurmountable figure for Switch to move. PS4 though does seem oversupplied.

Somewhere. I think.
Alright, that came out of nowhere. NoA just announced a special deal for North America. Wonder if something similar will be announced for Japan? Probably not...

That's sorta price drop, I guess.

Somewhere. I think.

Not as big as the MK8 bundle in NA and EU last year, but still something. I wonder when it will end, though, since the tweet clearly mentions time limit (as opposed to stock limit, like the MK8 bundle).

Edit: nvm, PR mentions there is a stock limit.

This new Nintendo Switch bundle is available while supplies last.

I wonder if the re-run of the Pokémon bundles is the JP equivalent of this promo.

That's sorta price drop, I guess.

Nintendo's switch bundles have at most added $30 in value outside of the limited Mk8 one.
This one doesn't seem to special, but at least might incentivize digital sales

I'm hoping these lackluster offers are just leading up to an actual bundle and then a price cut.
Including a gift card won't add much value to the average consumer, i think. But it might get more people to buy digitally. "Mario Kart for $25? Sure"

I wouldn't call it lackluster, it basically makes the Switch at 265$. A good deal for February.

Well there you go, so at least we know that the sales for AC7 is doing much better there than it is the rest of the world.

Ace Combat 7 is doing well in Japan, that was the point from the start and what everyone told you as we happen to be in a japanese sales thread, don't be surprised when you're called out on your stance when you open the door and say "Ace Combat looks headed for flop status".

And no I, and others though not everyone, may not have a clue about how the game is doing in others markets.

If you have a point about worldwide sales, western reception or anything else really, it's all fair and good, but either make it clear from the start or post in a more appropriate topic where it's easier to guess what you're talking about in the first place.

This was the week that marked officially 3DS' death.

No game in Dengeki top 50
No game in Famitsu top 30
No game in Media Create top 30 (but US/UM should be in top 50.

Time for Dengeki to take their crown.
Personally, i think Dengeki is the best even with Famitsu. Dengeki got Top 50 and more importantly, total software breakdown for each platform. Famitsu has the remaining stock info (what are these based on anyway? Do the publisher tell them how many copies they have shipped?). Does Media Create has any advantage over the others?

Dengeki still gives the impression of amateurish behavior with the continued mismatches between game names and codes for years now.

Dengeki, of the three trackers, is the one who overshoots (overtrack) the most. I think their sample is smaller than MC and Famitsu.

Edit: media create advantages are Amazon.jp sales, Hardware SKUs are separated (ex: 2DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS), is used by the main publishers (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft), they share exactly sell-through for big games (not always), but exactly. Famitsu is between 20% which is big range, Dengeki rounds to the closer 0 or 5.

Thanks.

I was thinking about being released first and Amazon tracking, but its one week interval between each reported numbers for each trackers, so it technically no more waiting between the numbers :) And the other trackers should in theory compensate with estimates for the lack of Amazon tracking (if they dont have it), but if Media Create has more data collected, then that can be an advantage indeed. How do we know that Dengeki overtracks by the way?

I could be changing, but in my experience, single-player RPGs in popular series are usually bought physically. For 2 reasons:

1. For players who finish them quickly they can get most of their money back reselling (which is one reason RPG games loose legs quickly, so many used copies). I have a friend who does this for almost any big RPG release. He sometimes buys them back down the line when they are dirt cheap.

2. Hardcore fans also don't often buy digitally in beloved series because they like to collect and display their full ____series collection. They have been waiting a long time for the next game in the series and it's not ever leaving their shelf. (this is admittedly me).

Again it might be changing but I have 7 co-workers who bought Kingdom Hearts 3 and none of them bought it digitally. 5 of those same people bought MHW and 3 of them bought it digitally. I know that is only one anecdote and meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but based on my experience, I would be very surprised of KH3 was at 1,000,000 now. I also think SE would have said something if it was.
3. MHW faced supply problems at launch, KH3 didn't

4. MHW is 14GB, KH3 is 37GB.

I edited my previous post with other info, coping here again:

Media create advantages are Amazon.jp sales, Hardware SKUs sales are separated (ex: 2DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS), is used by the main publishers (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft), they share exactly sell-through for big games (not always), Famitsu is a range between 20% which is big, Dengeki rounds to the closer 0 or 5, while MC is exactly when they do.

Regarding the overtracked sales (or undertracked) I remember a few cases but I will need to check and I can't now.
A latest game that I remember would be FFXV. According to Famitsu and MC the first shipment of the game was around 1.050k for Famitsu and 1.070k for MC.
However Dengeki's first shipment for this games was 1.170k, so 100k higher than the others, which is a big difference.
We don't have exactly shipped number from Square in Japan, so it might be that the ones wrong are Famitsu and MC. So, the the truth is that this example doesn't prove anything, just assuming.

Surely this is a very good sign since that means BN acknowledge that it was very undershipped and that it surpassed their expectations, right?

We know it did best on Switch in the UK and Benji did hint at it being the same in the US.

No way they aren't very impressed with the Switch version's performance.

Indeed, I'm sure the Switch will continue to get a lot more ports/remasters of old games. When there isn't much of a graphical/performance disparity compared to PS4/X1 versions then Switch 3rd party titles do really well.
