Regarding March's Nintendo game, I think we have already seen some gameplay of it so that leaves 3 possible games :

Yoshi, Fire Emblem and Luigi's Mansion.

Didn't Dark Moon released in March ?
I feel if we don't get an update on LM3 on January/February. It won't release on March.

Had a similar feeling with Fire Emblem Three Houses when we didn't see it on the March Direct. As soon as that happened, I knew it was becoming a 2019 release.

I was digging out some PS2 games to play, and I got curious by why Wild Arms was dropped by Sony for a long time. Then, I went to Game Data Library and looked up the sales... Wow, I have no idea that the later games sold that bad. Wild Arms 5 only sold 117,975 LTD.

You should look at what high Arc the Lad opened and at what low the series ended.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 seems quite expensive, I think?

It's sad, because it looks like a good game, but as I got the first one less than a year ago at half the price, and haven't had time to complete it yet and have a bunch of other games in queue I have decided not to get it at the moment. I say this as a huge DQ fan.

Similar first day between PS4 and Switch as expected for DQB2, while Onimusha should be among those games showing a ratio between the two systems between 2:1 to 3:1 in PS4's favor.

However... I don't get what Katamari Damacy is doing in the Bomba Land territory. Just how much did Namco ship. The game surely doesn't seem to be doing THAT badly: currently 16th on Japanese eShop charts (given how they work, it's a fine start) and around 50ths on Amazon.co.jp (consider that Amazon rankings are currently filled with hardware SKUs / accessories + Holidays time, which means that being around that placement now is quite different than during normal times). That would point out to a first week between 10,000 to 20,000 units, with post-launch sales yet to be seen, even if the low price should help in attracting customers. And I was never expecting Katamari to had a high first-week sell-through (between 20 to 40% at best due to its potential long-selling nature and Namco shipping more thanks to the Holidays)... But I assume I'm just shocked they shipped so much that its first-day St is quite less than 10%.

They can just pad some spot with Labo 4 i think? They only need to keep the momentum going anyway.

You can't forecast such a sales range using Amazon rankings.

Also, if the game is doing well on eShop it might not do as well in retail stores. Some games have more skewed sales towards digital channels.

Super Mario 3d World is possible for Deluxe treatment but I don't think it's a priority for Nintendo. Galaxy came out in 2017 and with New Super Mario Bros. U and the potential Mario Maker 2 in sight there isn't an empty slot for it in the near future.

IMO Nintendo have plenty of possibilities for Mario on Switch, and they probably have sweet problems of making priorities and release schedule for Mario games on Switch:

-They already ported Captain Toad so they already have SM3DW engine running on Switch and that would make much easier and cheaper porting on Switch, and SM3DW port would be huge especially because with Joycons 2-4 multiplayer have too much sense.
-On other hand they maybe want full sequel (SM3DW2).
-In some time they probably have some plans or working on brand new 3D Mario or Mario Odyssey 2.
-Than you also have potential Mario Galaxy 1/2 HD port for Switch that would be huge in any case, and we already have Mario Galaxy officially running on Nvidia Shield (that has same hardware like Switch) in China so they could easily port that.
-Than you have almost certain Super Mario Maker 2.

Plenty of possibilities that make sense, similar could be said for Zelda on Switch.

I can't find any reason to port Pikmin 3 on Switch since Pikmin 4 has been in development for more than most AAA games now and the IP doesn't have a focus on narrative like MP or Bayonetta.

Same like some other Wii U games, Pikmin 3 is great and big game where its potential was held by Wii Us low install base, also Pikmin 3 port could be easily used like market tool for Pikmin 4 and we dont have idea when Pikmin 4 could be launched. Also, Miyamoto loves Pikmin, with so many Wii U ports on Switch I can easily see him pushing Pikmin 3 port for Switch regardless anuthing.

Similar sellthrough yes, similar first day we have no idea with that info.
It's likely but the only thing indicated here is that Switch SKU had more sales with similar sellthrough

After reading the other thread where xbox dominates the world, may I ask if xbox one X and gamepass really improved their sales in japan?

I can see nintendo in trouble right? Or is engadget doing some bad journalism ?

Xbox brand isn't anywhere a big player outside of NA and UK and this won't change unless both Sony and Nintendo go bankrupt. I don't know what exactly there is to discuss.

God Eater 3 second week might be even worse than expected and it's week 51, the game fails to find an audience.

I'm gonna disagree this time. Xbox 360 was strong worldwide, and so is the Microsoft brand. Microsoft operates in a wide range of countries and regions and I think they can be a strong player in the market if they wanted to. it is just... with Xbox One they were too focused on main markets because better economics and more-spending rates per customer, while Sony focused on worldwide market because they were at a disadvantage in US/UK (and Sony always operate on a worldwide scale with their new products).

however I think things will be different next gen. I think Microsoft is going to release Xbox Scarlett in as many markets as possible, and may follow Sony's steps in localizing their products worldwide. Sony has been fully localizing their games in the Middle East region for years now (fully dubbed and translated), they also use official media channel to reach customers and make official discounts by themselves. their efforts are very impressive and the region grew a lot after the last years since piracy no longer as easy as it was during PS1/PS2 days.

Nintendo has the weakest reach and availability between the three, they don't operate in a lot of places, but it is very strong in main markets. this seems to me like a Japanese mindset, they don't like to expand everywhere unlike other countries. for example, Samsung supports my small country directly and the operation/marketing of Samsung here is under supervision from Korea, Huawei also has a deal to be the exclusive supplier of communications equipment here (but this may change/have changed because of US pressure), but Japanese companies never did the same in any section (it is only Sony that operates similar to those corps/countries).

from a personal experience, I easily received support to cover video games for the outlet I work for from a lot of indies/small companies even from different regions which don't have operations in our region, and i had a fantastic experience working with them, but I can't say the same about any Japanese company, they are (still) very hard to reach, even to this day.

They should have fasttracked a switch version, or atleast a barebones version on vita or SOMETHING that wasent PS4 only

Agreed, you'd think a Switch version would've been top priority, it wouldn't have taken a rocket scientist to figure out how to sell the game.

I guess they thought Monster Hunter World's success would mean it could replicate it on PS4, but I think it wasn't a wise mindset, to say the least.

After reading the other thread where xbox dominates the world, may I ask if xbox one X and gamepass really improved their sales in japan?

I can see nintendo in trouble right? Or is engadget doing some bad journalism ?

In Countries like Japan or Spain where Nintendo or Sony are very dominant it's unlikely Xbox will ever make a big dent in the marketshare.
This should be pretty obvious if you know how many console Microsoft have sold per generation in Japan:

Xbox: 470K
XB360: 1600K
XBO: 100K

As if Game Pass and Xbox X have improved XBO sales in Japan or not ,my answer is that any improvement doesn't matter if your console still sell 1K in one of the biggest week of the year.
XBO was (and is) an irrelevant console for the whole generation in Japan.

I think it is for UK/US people hard to comprehend how little mindshare Xbox as a brand has in central Europe. I´m from Germany and MS even struggled to compete against the WiiU.

And we already had a generation in which MS had the cheaper, better console with good games and paid exclusives.

But who knows...now Sony and MS are basically both US companies...stranger things happened.

I don't know the effects of each individual part of the Xbox strategy, but the brand has definitely gotten more popular in Japan - although everything is relative of course lol.

The Xbox One X was launched in Japan on 7 November 2017 (week 45). In its first week, 1344 Xbox One X consoles were sold in Japan, alongside 123 other Xbox One units. In the first 44 weeks of 2017, only 6359 Xbox One brand systems were sold in Japan (up 3.7% from 6133 units in week 1-44, 2016). In the 52 weeks since the Xbox One X launch - Week 45, 2017 through Week 44, 2018 -, there were 19.268 Xbox One brand units sold in Japan, of which 10.648 Xbox One X consoles and 8620 other Xbox One units. In the first 44 weeks of 2018, Xbox One brand sales doubled year-on-year, with Xbox One X contributing to 66.3% of those unit sales.

So the market share of Xbox in the Japanese console industry increased a lot over the last year. But of course, Xbox is still a tiny player compared to Nintendo and Sony.

So ps4 software up YOY with two weeks left. Good to see growth at retail despite the inevitable growth in terms of digital.

PlayStation is so far ahead of xbox now it's not even funny. In terms of sales, profits and brand strength. However we're seeing a lot of articles like these pop up where they go on like MS are in the position of strength. With next gen on the horizon I wouldn't be surprised if MS are sponsoring these articles to try and change the publics general mindset.

As we get closer expect to see a lot more of these articles praising xbox and dismissing the ps4 despite it's undeniable WW position.

Mmmm who to believe, the company that makes the product, the professionals that track the console, or one random poster with a narrative... This is a though one.

How about common sense? If its portable, then its a portable.

We weren't talking about DBZ or Naruto so... okay?

You were talking to Jump Force so whats up with the ellipses? Or did you actually think DBZ and Naruto being on the front and heavily marketed as the premier franchises in that game (alongside OP) was a coincidence?
