Switch software performing extremely well in the holidays. Excited to see how 3rd party efforts perform going forward, Xenoverse 2 in particular seems encouraging. The hardware numbers are good, but I guess hype around anecdotal evidence got the best of me too. Still, A great first year for Switch continues.

...Where are Famitsu numbers though?

Japan
Not sure how helpful this is but:

I went to 3 stores over the weekend. (Sorry it's Christmas with the family so I didn't get around much) and the Switch was sold out at all 3. Now you obviously cannot extrapolate the supply situation of Japan from that. Heck, you cannot even accurately extrapolate the supply situation in my town. However I can say with certainty that at least some stores did in fact sell out.

Speculation follows: My guess is that if some stores in my town are sold out is is still somewhat supply constrained in Japan. I don't believe there is anything particularly special about my town that it should be an anomaly. It is however a small town and the supply situation in the big cities might be significantly different. But need more data.

Xenoblade 2 sold extremely well, JRPGs do not have legs like you see with other titles. It will probably pass a million units globally which for a JRPG puts it in the 99.999th percentile.

random prediction:
Hyrule Warriors Ultimate will release in 2018 with all the DLC. It will have a promise of BOTW DLC later that year.
Seems like no brainer for Koei
I think the far better play is making Hyrule Warriors 2. Built for the ground up for the Switch, and focusing predominantly on Breath of the Wild Link, Zelda, and the Champions. Hopefully including Guardians among the enemies and so on, capitalizing on the success of BOTW and at the same time using a strong, different enough hook to overcome how derivative these games can be (and the consumer malaise that can result from that).

They knocked it out of the park with the first one, which released in 2014 for Wii U and 2016 for 3DS, as it excelled as a Musou title and also a fun Zelda game to help fans with the wait for the next mainline game. I don't know how much appeal porting a 4-year-old game is going to have at this point, particularly with Nintendo involved instead of Koei Tecmo left to their own devices (which we did see evidence of a couple of weeks ago with the Musou port trifecta). And with growing evidence that Fire Emblem Warriors may have unfortunately dropped the ball, I don't think a dicey sell is what Nintendo and Koei Tecmo are looking for next - especially with The Legend of Zelda and the Switch involved.

So with Kimishima saying he wants 20 million sold for Switch next FY I imagine shipments are going up?

I went to Shinjuku's Bic Camera last Saturday to buy a keyboard and a clerk was advertising Switches being available in the store.
I asked and indeed they were available.
I'm not sure if I was there just at the right moment in the right place or supply didn't sell out immediately this time.

There was resupply over the weekend, and post-Christmas things fell off as expected. It'd be more interesting to see how supply is on Week 52/Week 1. But between restocks and the post-Christmas lul, we can't know much about the current situation.

XB2's leg in Japan, even as a JRPG, is nothing to write home about. The drop ratio is in line with other JRPGs. This year the only JRPG that actually showed exceptional leg is NieR Automata.

To anyone who was wondering where X2's legs were, they are on Famitsu. It has legs.

30./00. [PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition # <ADV> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.03.19} (¥2.400) - 8.392 / 1.043.277 <80-100%>

Very impressive.
The contribution Minecraft gave to PSV shouldn't be forgotten.

EDIT:
And of course I missed a game released even earlier:
24./26. [3DS] Mario Kart 7 <RCE> (Nintendo) {2011.12.01} (¥4.571) - 11.557 / 2.783.789 <80-100%> (+124%)

Unless I'm reading the chart wrong, the Switch and Vita versions of Atelier didn't even make the top 30. That franchise is done.

The Stussining
Pokken Deluxe, Xenoverse 2 on the switch, and Arc survival are my biggest surprises this year. Games all have great legs and at least 1 of them will still be selling well into next year.

I know most people here don't care but I want FIFA to sell good enough for ea, so they don't halfass next years version.

It is doing good in Europe too....this gives me hope

It's funny how the supposed superior tracker has all Switch software lower than Media Create.
Famitsu's switch software tracking in general is some funky ass business, Most of them seemingly have download card included but are in many cases lower than the MC numbers even when they launched substantially higher presumably due to the download cards. Their weekly software sales tracking for some of the titles come in consistently substantially lower.

I was expecting it to be announced, and was surprised we got a port of Pokken instead. with any luck it's one of Bamco's 2018 titles. cant imagine it being a 2019 title as it would be on TPC's dime
