Switch did 134k last year, I would expect a much higher number due to Smash and being year 2.

If it does 200k next week it'd be a 20% increase for W51+W52 which is what it seems to go to for the YTD increase.
Considering part of the big holiday sales have been relocated to early December, it makes sense.

Hitting some milestones in the not too far distant future. SMP has seriously beaten whatever expectations I had for it.
02./05. [NSW] Super Mario Party # <ETC> (Nintendo) {2018.10.05} (¥5.980) - 155.060 / 742.355 (+59%)
07./06. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe <RCE> (Nintendo) {2017.04.28} (¥5.980) - 47.096 / 1.958.270 (+60%)
08./08. [NSW] Splatoon 2 # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2017.07.21} (¥5.980) - 41.405 / 2.809.117 (+53%)
12./09. [NSW] Super Mario Odyssey # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2017.10.27} (¥5.980) - 21.384 / 1.902.226 (+48%)

These ones should probably leg it out to 1M as well.
06./07. [NSW] Minecraft # <ADV> (Microsoft Game Studios) {2018.06.21} (¥3.600) - 48.359 / 479.769 (+75%)
11./11. [NSW] Kirby Star Allies <ACT> (Nintendo) {2018.03.16} (¥5.980) - 21.643 / 691.939 (+80%)
Don't forget Switch hit a hardware milestone of surpassing the OG PS4 LTD sales. (Excluding PS4 Pro)

The real question is whether Pokemon Lets go will surpassa Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon.

That and will Super Mario Party become the best selling Mario Party title all time.
It's still only just over 1/3 of the best-selling MP title:

Code:
NDS Mario Party DS 242.195 2.113.599 Nintendo 08/11/2007
WII Mario Party 8 282.389 1.470.332 Nintendo 26/07/2007

Should definitely be the no. 3 (which is about 900k), and has a good chance at becoming the no. 2 best-selling MP title, but first will be very difficult imo.

Switch is too expensive to reach similar heights as past Nintendo handhelds - next year things will be different.
With hardware, software and Accessoires being quite a bit more expensive compared to the DS/3DS im always surprised when people brough up 350-400k weeks like it was nothing heh.

Overall good results for Switch and PS4.

Huh.. Those HW numbers are not what I expected to see. What happened?

And DQB2 didn't do so well... Also surprising to see the PS4 version selling the most. I guess it's all about the legs now.

Other than that, Switch SW numbers are monstrous!! Crazy that lots of devs are still not on board.

Worldwide +8million games. That is insane.

Damn those Wii and DS games messing up Switch franchises best selling records :D

I would like point out that the missing 70k (considering 350k as "good") are 0.07m.

People saying "rip 20m" for 0.07m LMAO, that's 0.35% of the target.

So last week we were supposed to say how amazing switch hw numbers were right? Your continued overreaction to weekly points of data continues to astound me.

I have been pretty consistent so far..
People continued to postpone possible amazing grow yoy week after week...
Time to admit that japanese switch sales hw wise haven't been so strong in 2018
It would be good to see more user simply recognize this, at least at year's end..
There were ao many people predicting 300+,or even 350 +..
But not, it's me over reacting
Lol

Little disappointed that Switch is not 300k+ (seems Switch likes 280k baseline), but strong sales in any case,
espacily Switch games are sold crazy good.

What I find strange as well is that PS4 also took a nosedive this week, despite it not having a major game that could conceivably have frontloaded the system towards week 49/50. I honestly find it even stranger that that system had a WoW decrease as well. Would lend credence to the idea that Christmas has garnered enough strength to shift sales in this way I think.

The fact that PS4 dropped as well is clearly indicative that sales have been splitted differently this year and isn't something tied to the Switch. It's of a bigger impact on Switch because it has much bigger HW sales.
We'll be fixed next wesdneday I guess.

Software is insane, its outselling its competition over 3:1, is about to overtake Wii launch aligned and yet because it sold 60-70K less than expected we get your doomsaying posts.

You have a unique inability to see the forest from the trees (or you just don't want to see the forest)

It's not funny nor interesting to pinpoint other users' expectations from previous threads as the main point of debate when new figures are released. Calm down.

I wonder if now, with these numbers in, more people will accept that switch hw numbers in japan has been flat yoy and so, disappointing considering last year's shortages

There's still one week left and also Switch is the market leader with amazing software sales. What's there to discuss exactly?

Nintendo Wii | Nintendo Switch

Smash Bros For 3DS+WiiU| Smash Bros Ultimate

At this point, it seems pretty clear these two comparisons are done. The latter might be interesting to follow after holidays, on a weekly basis as 3DS+Wii U had yet to reach holiday periods.

Yeah that DS number looks to be untouchable.

DS numbers shouldn't be a benchmark. It was a thing of its own and also way more cheaper and accessible.

Wasn't the PS4 discounted recently ?
It could just be that the discount effect wore off and the lack of a big release couldn't make up for it.

Oh, sorry. You are right!
Amazing week numbers for switch, it's totally going to destroy japanese 2017 ytd numbers, next week will totally cement a +35% increasing in total year hw sales for switch in japan...............

jesus

It's discounted until Jan. 6th.

Expecting growth in week 51 is about the safest thing you can do. Considering that the PS4 was also down it begs the question of whether this has anything ro do with tracking period. Being flat in week 51 is not normal.

I am still waiting for Switch hardware to truly surprise me for at least 1 week in Japan, I guess I will have to wait for next year.

at this point i'm done with switch in Japan, in the rest of the world it keep selling as much or even better than what i predict and then in Japan something like this always happen.

Maybe with a pricedrop, but nah

Switch software is cray-cray. It just keeps on selling and selling!! Also, on the hardware front, it's now less than 1M away from the PS4. Wonder if it can catch up to it before March. Seems likely, from what I remember from the pre-Holidays numbers tbh.

PS4 Pro reached the 1M mark, which is noteworthy I guess. Even if it didn't sell like crazy it's clearly served its purpose for Sony (especially on a WW perspective).

I still have hopes of the Vita reaching the 6M mark! Not that it changes anything at all, but it would be a nice "goodbye" of sorts for it! :P

Nice to see DQ Builders doing well. Had a great time with the first game, looking forward to getting this one as well.

Oh, sorry. You are right!
Amazing week numbers for switch, it's totally going to destroy japanese 2017 ytd numbers, next week will totally cement a +35% increasing in total year hw sales for switch in japan...............

Hardware sales matters to a point, if the increase was the only thing that mattered Nintendo would have slashed the price months ago now.

Maybe there are other metrics to judge a console other than hardware sales that are more important.

That's true for every console, just look at Sony in the US in November and now December.

Christmas Eve will save the Switch! Those chest beating posts last week about Switch performance look a bit silly now lmao.

Great software sales from Nintendo. Insane hold over the last two weeks for Smash, Minecraft showing some incredible selling power too.

Weak finish to the year from the PS4 and no software really performing "great".

Looks like people overestimated the switch again. The smash bump looking more like an epic bump and hardware sales falling back in line.

Luckily for Nintendo they should be able to crush next week considering last year there were hardware shortages.

I still thinking New Years will be a much stronger period for Switch due to Smash Bros being a more core focused system seller. Will it give a respectful increase year over year overall? Maybe?

Seems like Christmas being separate from this week had a bigger impact than realized.

What I'm saying is this is How The Week 52 Stole Christmas.
