IIRC Last update was:
23./24. [PS4] Trials of Mana # <RPG> (Square Enix) {2020.04.24} (¥5.980) - 1.607 / 133.593 <80-100%> (-26%)
26./26. [NSW] Trials of Mana # <RPG> (Square Enix) {2020.04.24} (¥5.980) - 1.562 / 100.451 <80-100%> (-25%)

Decent gap between them. It also came out closer to FFVIIR than AC.

If FFXVI is 2021 then by 2022 PS5 will have a decent base. Either way no real reason to de-prioritise PS unless Nintendo is offering support.
FFVIIR was way weaker than AC, when ToM released.

I think Ryza 2 selling more on PS4 despite an announcement with Nintendo surprised a lot of us here. Trials of Mana too. PS4 is still pretty strong with JRPG.

In Ryza 2's case I think the expectation were just too high in general imo, and people expected the big numbers to come from the gains in the NSW SKU. Considering Ryza's sales I think 2 had a very healty NSW split in realm of what was realistic.

But yeah in general, assuming no platform holder incentives, PS4/NSW should be the norm for most stuff. Unless (until in some cases I fear) the PS split falls under 20% or something there is no reason to make exclusives.

At this point in time there is no reason not to support both Switch and PS4/PS5. Both systems are strong for JRPG and other smaller genres, so supporting both is the key to doing well. Being Switch or PS exclusive is a bad move in either direction for those genres (unless you get strong support in return, like with BD2/OT and perhaps also some games on PS).

Final Fantasy VII Remake has had atrocious legs, in the end even the most awaited remake of all time was not nearly enough to revitalize the franchise in Japan.

Indeed.

Honestly, I was expecting that the game that could have revitalized the franchise in Japan was indeed Final Fantasy VII Remake. Final Fantasy VII was huge in Japan too and has had a big legacy (indeed, games within the Compilation all did well). Further, quality seems there.

Apparently, that wasn't enough. There are some factors that definitely limited the performance of the game in Japan (the episodic nature, the installed base) plus the diminishing relevance of the franchise in Japan.

I wonder if not being ATB affected it as well. I still remember the uproar over the initial DQIX reveal.

Certainly made me care less.

At the end of the day, the PS4 versions still have better in-game performance than Switch versions. So maybe the people playing those games just want the better experience over portability.

Somewhere. I think.
Nintendo are releasing a special Nintendo Switch model alongside SM3DW + Bowser's Fury in NA and Europe (not a bundle). Wonder if it'll come to Japan too.

nintendoswitchmariore8nk8k.jpg

Nintendo also unveiled the new Nintendo Switch – Mario Red & Blue Edition system, with a distinct red-and-blue color scheme in honor of Mario's iconic outfit. This special edition hardware will be available through select retailers beginning Feb. 12 at a suggested retail price of $299.99. It includes red Joy-Con controllers with blue straps, a blue Joy-Con grip, a red Nintendo Switch dock and a red Nintendo Switch system – making this the first time the Nintendo Switch system itself will be available in a new color! It will also include a stylized Mario Red & Blue Edition Carrying Case and a screen protector to help protect the Nintendo Switch system when traveling through Warp Pipes or anywhere else life's adventures may lead.

Gust has been releasing mainline Atelier entries on Sony platforms for decades and the franchise renaissance happened on PS3/PSV - only recently we have seen multi-platform releases on Switch. The fanbase is historically present on Sony platforms: you can't migrate it over the course of three entries. In fact, Ryza 2 results are pretty good on Switch considering that the gap is quickly closing (and I'm pretty sure sales will be even more skewed towards Switch in Western markets).

Trials of Mana faced big supply problems on Switch at first weeks and has been mentioned many times before, selective memory is a bad thing.

"Like last week, all Top10 is Switch software. At 1st place is Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! far ahead of 2nd place Ring Fit Adventure which raised due to restocking.

Since there aren't new titles released, there aren't big changes from 3rd to 10th place."

It's becoming more and more clear that a bad initial performance of PS5 in the domestic market (whether it is due to a lack of demand or stock issues) might impact even a big company like Square Enix, which still generates half of its sales from Japan:
"At this time, Japanese games make 15% of the market share in the industry in the world. So if we take a look at the world, there is a big market lying. Even though domestic sales still makes up about 50% of Square-Enix game division sales, the company is targeting to increase international sales for the future." Applicants are to work "on CG movies and hi-end movies for game openings, endings and event scenes."

Part 2 is likely gonna do worse as well - it's gonna be interesting to see how many OG fans will still be there once this complication ends.

What a beauty.
To bad I just got another one.
The case is included for the same price.
Hopefully we can get the Switch in more colors in the future.

SaleEra what are your projections on SM3DW after the trailer? WW that is.

Game will clear 10mil. It really depends on word of mouth. This is a multiplayer and beginner friendly game. Also that Bowser Fury is beautiful. I can't wait. It has potential to do more but yet to be seen.

Let's hope it clears 1.5mil in japan, and most optimistically thing.... beating SMO in japan 😮

They´ll be dumb if they don´t do an Odyssey 2. Odyssey was way more successful than Galaxy and that got a sequel. But it´s Nintendo.

Since Famitsu ended the digital polls joke we finally have value of physical software for 2019 separated from digital.

For the history physical software value was 166,9 billions yen and digital (whatever they included in there) was 110,4 billions yen).

Just throwing my opinion into the ring

Odyssey is one of my least favorite Mario games whereas Galaxy is one of my favorites, and while try to be unbiased I don't think I can discuss 3d Mario sales that well.

So SMG3 anyone?

I think people are underestimating what a marketing juggernaut Odyssey was at launch. And it's a 20M seller. 3D World won't be coming close. Yes the trailer is cool but we're talking about another dimension with Odyssey.

You're most likely right, but we don't know how much the multiplayer aspect will boost this game. I think it has huge potential in spite of being (partially) a re-release.

You're right, 3d World won't come close because Odyssey will be at 25mil+ at the end of the Switch's life. 3d World will still sell more than 15mil regardless.
