Both seem like they're heading for pretty small openings right? Wish Virtual On was doing better. Wonder if the PSP VN-fighter thing will outsell it lol:

PSP Toaru Majutsu no Index 56,567 / 84,352
If I remember correctly, that game got backlashed badly by fans of both series, kinda like the TMS situation.Virtual On got a weird crossover after years of waiting for the new game,To Aru fans were hoping for a new anime ss3 plus the New Testament series quality was going down at that time got thrown to the face with s game that they didn't ask for.

50% on day one doesn't seem bad and it looks Secret of Mana will open higher than the Switch collection.

Considering the decline of a lot of IPs, be it PS4+PSV or even worse PS4 only games without PSV versions, combined with healthy Switch sales, I expect some major movements and announcements in this years TGS. Even Kadokawa seems to take Switch more seriously, starting this year with GodWars.
We're already starting to see a lot of small publisher movement like this towards Switch. SystemSoft Alpha and Artdink are two recent examples with PC ports coming this spring, one of which (Daisenryaku Perfect 4.0) also had it's Vita port canceled and PS4 port still TBA.

We aren'T a full year in yet, so more like 48-49

I was convinced a year was formed by 57 weeks. Just did the math. What the hell is wrong with me.

I predicted Switch was going to reach 4 million in 60 weeks because it was, in my mind, around the start of April, one month after the anniversary.
So in a way I think I was right, but it'll be more like week 55/56.

Yes, it started already and we've seen new announcements already, like SNK Heroines in last Nintendo Direct, around TGS we'll see a more concentrated amount of announcements.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 to me personally is still the most telling announcement for the sudden change. A game that obviously started as a PS4 exclusive, the IP had no entry on Nintendo systems, but they still revealed the game at the same time for Switch.

If bad word of mouth spreads out quickly Dynasty Warriors 9 is in serious trouble to have a LTD around 200k.

Media Create has also first week sell-through at 70%, it had very small rise after 60% of first day.

Dynasty Warriors might have problems to sell even its first shipment. It won't escape niche territory.

It makes sense to keep them separate; Nintendo is doing the same communication wise. By the way, are there any first days' impressions on Labo's preorders from Sinobi / retailers in general?

Ouch, tomorrow and sunday, it's Nintendo Labo camp ( Tokyo ) .

https://www.nintendo.co.jp/labo/camp/index.html

Get ready for pre-order.

About Bayo 2, amazon pre-order outside Japan, is very good.
It's true that in Japan, it doesn't seem famous . And number of FW will take into account just 2 days because Bayo 2 release in Japan is saturday 17th february.
I hope some numbers for english market this monday and after that, MC and famitsu numbers.

Wonder what this abysmal performance for DW9 means for the franchise moving forward and especially Omega Force.

I still think Labo Camp is by far the worst name for an event Nintendo has ever come up with.

I can't not read Labor Camp.

Somewhere. I think.
They would have sold better if they keep it niche instead. They fk it up badly trying to make it open world.

But Musou isn't niche, it's pretty mainstream in Japan.

I still think Labo Camp is by far the worst name for an event Nintendo has ever come up with.

I can't not read Labor Camp.

That name is only for Japan, and I highly doubt any Japanese person would read it as "Labor Camp". It's Nintendo Labo Studio in NA, and Workshop in UK.

Are retailers expecting Labo to sell mainly to the current userbase, at the beginning, or will it drive hardware sales from the start ?

If its being treated as a separate product, it indicates a want/desire for visibility and so would be targeting a newer audience. This suggests they expect it to sell to people without a Switch yet as its being 'shown off' so to speak.

Users who already have a Switch know what LABO is.

Somewhere. I think.
This week, it was announced that the Inazuma Eleven Ares anime would debut on April 6th at 5.55PM on TV Tokyo with a one-hour special. The new Yo-kai Watch series (same timeslot as usual, though) debut the following week with a 1h special, but regular timeslot is 6.25PM. Looks like they're going for Inazuma > Yokai combo, heh.

Still find it bonkers how, come April, Level-5 will have 4 anime series running concurrently. Don't think any other game companies has had that many at once.

The charting of Bayonetta in the "Amazon Charts" is a little bit weird. The Bayonetta download code is charting at 11, the Bayonetta 2 download code is charting at 24 and the physical release has the lowest rank at 26.

Seriously according to the Amazon charts the oldest game is the best selling one and the pysical version is less appealing. Normally newer games sell better and physical releases are the preferred ones in japan. It must have to do with the special eshop pricing of this game but still.

The next game will likely suffer a bit like AC syndicate. I'm interested in the long term effect. Is this reboot bad? Is it fixable? Will new musou games adopt this format or will they return to the original style?

If they want to commit financial suicide, yes, they will.

As it is right now, their "open world" formula is just downright broken. They'll need to seriously rething the whole thing if they ever want to attempt open-world again, because that doesn't really look like something that could be fixed with a bit of polish.

Or maybe it must have to with the fact that Amazon rankings are extremely unreliable, especially on such low volumes.

Anecdotal but few hours ago on the French eshop charts bayo 1 was #7 and there was no sign of bayo 2. Cheaper price and download codes probably

Those are what I'm seeing right now on the eshop

Bayo 1 is 1st (Aus) 13th (Jpn)
Bayo 2 is 13th (Aus) 15th (Jpn)

Still it is very rare that a pysical release is outpaced by the download code version. Mostly this happens when there are supply issues. For example Mario Kart is now at rank 9 and the download code is at rank 71. Most download codes never appear in the charts.
Note: I do not think Bayonetta 2 has supply issues.

The difference between the US and Japan/Aus/NL is pretty interesting. Bayonetta 1 is charting much higher than Bayonetta 2 in those countries.

I am not talking about eshop charts. The physical release has a Bayonetta 1 download code included. So it is no surprise that in the eshop charts Bayonetta has a much higher rank.
On Amazon.fr the physical release has the top spot. There is no download version charting.

Since we're listing Bayonetta's eShop rankings now:

Netherlands: Bayonetta is at #2. Bayonetta 2 is not in the ranking.
United States: Bayonetta is at #6. Bayonetta 2 is at #5.

And I also have a Japanese and an Australian account, but those are already listed by Grads.

Probably says something about the digital ratio in the US compared to the other countries (assuming that Bayo 1 is charting higher thanks to the digital codes from Bayo 2 physical copy)

The difference between Bayo 1 and Bayo 2 in the eShop is bigger when the percentage of physical Bayo 2 purchases (compared to digital Bayo 2 purchases) is bigger. Because a physical Bayo 2 purchase means +0 for Bayo 2 and +1 for Bayo 1. So the digital rate seems much higher in the US than in these countries in other regions. However, I have no idea how Bayonetta 1 sold in the US on other systems, but that could have an impact as well. Because Bayo 2 is $10 cheaper in the eShop than on cartridge, so if you've already played Bayo 1 and you don't really care about boxes and cartridges, the download version is very attractive at that lower price. Most of those people probably have an extra microSD card, but even if they haven't, Bayo 2 is only 12,4 GB, so it fits in Switch's internal storage anyway. It's most likely a combination of these two things (higher digital adoption and higher sales of Bayo 1 than in other regions).

Chris1964 you said that you and retailers are expecting AOT2 to bomb. A ~50k debut for the Switch version is doable, given it is steadily increasing on Comgnet. Would it really be terrible ?

I doubt Switch will open at 50k but even then it won't be enough to prevent a drastic decline from first entry.
