Would've rather had Dragon's Crown Pro. :/

True, but at least for Catherine Classic that was a Sega Europe deal right?

This would almost certainly be from Atlus in Japan.
Yes, all Sega's PC ports are handled by Sega West (Europe). A few of their console ports are too but nothing from Atlus so far.

It is interesting though since it's a game made by the "main Persona team" and runs on P5's engine. If it has been made in house at least.

The Adirondacks
Of course it is. It's not main entry neither Persona team developing.

I'm not sure either of those things are true! The PVs have all been making jokes about how the "S " should really be a "2", and you can tell there's been a lot of collaboration from P5's original art and writing teams, which for JRPGs generally and the Persona series especially are arguably more important than sharing technical staff.

It will take time, but Persona will end up on Switch one day. Catherine (if true) is just one of many baby steps by Atlus.

Sega had a good chance to revive Hatsune Miku sales in Japan but it's unknown how many will care for this entry now that enthusiast buyers jumped in at first week and with how mismanaged it is.

Sega obviously looked at Taiko and came to the conclusion that even if the package is considered worse than the PS4 game you just have to add a crappy Joycon mode and you'll quadruple your sales.

Software at comg shows drop for Switch hardware but not collapse.

Honestly, I'm surprised to see Ring Fit Adventure not dropping too much WOW, as well as Brain Training actually increasing WOW and Minecraft doing the exact same. We'll see if other retailers show similar situations.

Isn't the PS4 version getting most of that new content through DLC anyway?

Any indication that retail stores overstocked the LE/10th Anniversary Box like Amazon appears to have done so?

Even if the Catherine port ends up being outsourced it will be interesting to see if they do the same for other titles. Assuming it ends up happening of course.

I definitely think that the game is mismanaged and it's not going to do that well, but the Joycon mode it's actually pretty good. It's clear they put effort on it, but not so much on the rest of the game...

P-Studio is co-developing P5S though.
It's also the sequel to P5 (something that P5R isn't).

Persona was able to go from strength to strength on the PSP+Vita.

P5S will be the true test to see if the franchise really is a phenomenon or flash in the pan.

For some reason I'm still stuck on Dragon Quest.

Dragon Quest XI Will Have to Sell Well in the West for Future Installments to be Localized - TGS 2018 - IGN

Dragon Quest XI producer Hokuto Okamoto told IGN that despite the franchise’s overwhelming success in Japan, it needs to sell in the West to justify future localizations.

From Dec 2019
DRAGON QUEST series creator and game designer Yuji Horii commented on the latest milestone: "I strongly believe that this figure has only been achieved thanks to our fans who have always loved the DRAGON QUEST series and also the new players who discovered DRAGON QUEST or JRPGs through this title. If I could ever go back in time to meet myself when I was still making the very first DRAGON QUEST, I would love to tell him, 'In 30 years' time, DRAGON QUEST XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age has been released and loved by international fans beyond seas and languages.' I will carry on doing my very best to deliver further DRAGON QUEST titles to our fans worldwide. Thank you very much to all the fans who have enjoyed the title!"

Square Enix is taking this whole thing seriously and I like that. They are engaging with the audience and seeking feedback. Being transparent about the fate of the series in the west and trying to boost it's footprint using Smash, Netflix and eventually the anime.

They are trying and with Monster Hunter World ditching the numbered sequel, even though I don't think that will happen with DQ, it might give Square Enix the chance to make Dragon Quest Monsters into something bigger than just a spin-off.

That's more of that transparency I guess. Announced it early in development and are now hitting roadblocks like FF7 Remake. That's a shame but I still expect big things from it. If they running into problems that hopefully means they are trying something ambitious.

Have they ever outsourced ports before?

That would be as equally weird and new.

I guess someone like O-TWO could do it...
O-TWO have been awful quiet. They used to be a fairly competent Sega support group, taking over the Sonic Riders series (alongside Xeen) after Now Pro for whatever reason left after the original. My theory is that folks left Now Pro to form O-TWO and hence why the series changed hands. O-TWO then carved a niche by making a series of DSiWare and then 3DS eShop indie titles through their Peakvox brand. But that just sort of went... poof after seemingly a Steam game that was an MMO-lite?

They then took over the Puyo series starting with Puyo 7 IIRC. They then started higher-calibur ports like Shinging Resonance Refrain on all current platforms. But that was the last we heard of them. I always suspected they did Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 4 on Switch, since Media.Vision did both on PS4, as they created Shining Resonance Refrain. Hand ended up doing the port of Media.Vision's Digimon Cyber Slueth Complete Edition on Switch and I think PC. But that was predictable as Hand is one of BN's most common Nintendo platform developers.

But back to O-TWO. They haven't updated their website in a couple of years. I wonder what's going on with them. Did they do Puyo Championship?

Somewhere. I think.
I will say If anyone sees Arise as looking terrible, less than impressive, or looking similar to any of their previous UE4 titles I would not blame you at all. That's Bandai Namco's shoddy work using the generic default UE4 lighting system they've been using in a bunch of their UE4 games. It makes everything look washed out, bland and ugly, and it absolutely destroys the presentation, the graphical fidelity, and the overall looks of their games. It makes their games look no different or just a bit better than any of the YouTube videos where people have inserted a cartoony character model into a realistic setting. Just amateur hour from a giant corporation like Bandai Namco.

Pretty much, still baffling how they managed to make so many of their anime games NOT look like anime at all (except the characters themselves). It's maddening, tbh. Jump Force is the worst example, but that's because it looks like some execs wanted to target the anime audience overseas but didn't want the game to look too anime so as not to scare people that are not into anime.

If Studio Zero is behind Switch port too these are positive news for future games from Atlus on the system. If not and it's outsourced it doesn't mean much.

Given the usual trend of late ports from JP publishers, chances that it's outsourced is highly likely.

It will take time, but Persona will end up on Switch one day. Catherine (if true) is just one of many baby steps by Atlus.

You'll get Persona 1 PS1 version as "Virtual Console", and you will like it.

Tsutaya and especially GEO are reporting a considerable drop for Ring Fit Adventure, implying low stock.

What's next, they're going to report that water is wet? :P

Seriously, you really have to wonder when the game is NOT going to be out of stock at this rate.

Famitsu digital isn't reliable, but 24,577 digital would be bad. Less than 15% digital.
Thanks for answering. It's not like I expected much from digital anyway tbh but I wanted to have an overall idea
of what is considered good in Japan.

I mean who wouldn't want to have this beautiful artwork in his collection :P

Yeah. While Comgnet showed a quite contained WOW sales drop, both Tsutaya and Geo rankings see the game suffering from important decreases, especially at Geo. The wonders of the Niigata prefacture :P

All the rankings show seemingly good holds for other Switch games (especially Minecraft and Brain Training), which (again) might be a sign of how Switch sales didn't collapse after all.

Also, if Google Translate (I know) is doing its job, Geo reported how Hatsune Miku had "very high initial movement" when compared to the PS4 game (they don't specify, but they're talking about Future Tone DX).

Btw: the regular version of the game is experiencing shortages on Amazon.co.jp, with March 8th as the estimated date for new shipments.

Somewhere. I think.

Day 1 sell-through was 60%, so that would mean "strong" sales during the weekend. Guess it did reach more players outside the "hardcore Miku fanbase" than they expected, though can't say I'm surprised a 3rd-party publisher underestimated a Switch release.

"Taiwan's sales list has a lot of changes. The first and second places are for new releases. The localized version by Clouded Leopard of Ys IX took successfully the first place and performed well. The best selling game of the week in Japan, Granblue Fantasy VS, took the second place in Taiwan. The last three games are for familiar faces for Switch: Pokemon Sword / Shield, Ring Fit Adventure and Super Mario Party.

The Korean's sales chart also changed slightly due to a new release. Pokemon Sword / Shield mantained the first place. Zelda Breath of the Wild, which has been on these list for a long time, is one step ahead of last week and took the second place. Third place is for Mario Kart 8 DX. The new release, Granblue Fantasy VS only could take the fourth place. Finally, Super Mario Party came last."

How was Royal at Comgnet before release?
246pts at the same point (last Sunday before release)
147pts from the Special Edition and 99pts from the Standard one.

In comparison P5S is at 139pts.
77pts from the Special Edition and 62pts from the Standard one.

*caveat that P5S is on 2 platforms vs 1 for P5R which muddies the ratio.

I was talking about LTD since day one will be in favor of P5R which then had poor legs.

Persona 5 Scramble will definitely have better legs than Persona 5 Royal. I think the value of P5S for fans of the series will be higher than P5R as well, since it's a full sequel instead of a re-release with an added semester. While I'm not sure how FW sales will compare, I'm convinced that P5S will have higher lifetime sales than P5R.
